Coffee Talk #609: Your Most Wanted Videogame of 2014

2014 should be an excellent year for videogames. There should be more mature (in terms of development) games for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U. The Steam Box is a potentially industry-changing product that will be out this year. Mobile games keep getting better and better. Put it all together and we should have all kinds of gaming awesomeness. My question for you on this fine day is this: what’s your most wanted videogame of 2014…continued

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, the Knicks/Nets giving fans false hope with their fluke 2014 stars, figuring out how to review luggage, or the glory of broccoli, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

2014 should be an excellent year for videogames. There should be more mature (in terms of development) games for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U. Put it all together and we should have all kinds of gaming awesomeness. My question for you on this fine day is this: what’s your most wanted videogame of 2014?

As for me, the answer couldn’t be easier. I’m all about Dragon Age: Inquisition. I loved the first game and enjoyed the second game way more than most. Hell, I’m even enjoying the mobile game Heroes of Dragon Age, despite its numerous flaws. I’m just heavily invested in the world of Dragon Age (yes, I’ve read some of the books) and as a lifelong fan of BioWare, I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. In my head, the game will be a near-perfect mix of great storytelling, deep gameplay, and unforgettable characters. Dragon Age: Inquisition is easily my most wanted videogame of 2014 and I suspect that it will end up being my 2014 game of the year.

How about you, dear RPadholics? What games are you looking forward to the most this year? What’s your most wanted videogame of 2014? Please let me know in the comments section.

Vaping Diaries #166: Top 10 Vaping Devices of 2013 (Mods, Atomizers)

Now that I’ve gone over my top 10 e-liquids of the year, it’s time to talk about my top 10 vaping devices of 2013. Like the juice list, my hardware list is completely subjective. In most situations, I almost always prefer mechanical mods and rebuildable atomizers. This list reflects my tastes, so to borrow a line from the Diff’rent Strokes theme song, “What might be right for you, may not be right for some.” (What? Was that joke too dated?) Anyway, here are my favorite mods and atomizers of 2013. After you’ve checked out the list, I’d love to hear about your top 10 vaping devices of 2013. Kindly share your favorite hardware in the comments section.

  1. GP Paps X (Vapour Art) — This one was easy. I had no doubt that the GP Paps X would lead my top 10 vaping devices of 2013 list. It’s easily the best mod in my collection. The craftsmanship is among the finest I’ve seen in vaping, the materials are top notch (316 stainless steel!), and the performance is great. I dream about a GP Paps X made from aluminum bronze, like that GP Paps Lux; that would be the equivalent of Scarlett Johansson being utterly smitten by Asian-American men that are nerds about coffee, comics, vaping, and videogames. While Vapour Art Perseas has explained why a GP Paps X Lux isn’t possible at this time, it’s still good to have dreams. Anyway, this mod is phenomenal. Full review here.
  2. GP Paps Lux 2.5 (Vapour Art) — There are times when I prefer the Paps Lux over the Paps X. Its aluminum bronze looks stunning and helps the mod deliver great performance. While there are numerous naval brass and tiger brass mods that look lovely, aluminum bronze is just sexier to me. If the GP Paps X is Natalie Portman (beautiful, elegant, and educated) then the GP Paps Lux is Scarlett Johansson (sexy and immensely alluring). While the GP Paps X is the “best” mod I have, the GP Paps Lux is the most beautiful. Review coming soon!
  3. The Russian (Kebo) — I’ve always been a huge fan of the Kayfun 3.1, but it’s an expensive atomizer that’s difficult to obtain. The Russian is pretty much an exact copy and there are some tales floating around that a former SvoeMesto (the Kayfun creators) partner was involved in its creation. Whether that tale is true or not, The Russian gives you the full flavor of dripping combined with 4.5ml of capacity. Best of all, it’s relatively inexpensive and much easier to get than the Kayfun 3.1. While full respect should be given to SvoeMesto for creating one of the best atomizers on the market in the Kayfun 3.1, The Russian is simply more accessible to more vapers. Full review here.
  4. Aqua by Footoon (UVO Systems) — A lot of people are calling this atomizer a “Kayfun killer,” and I completely disagree with that assessment. It offers a very different type of vape and has a lot less capacity, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t love my Aqua. For vapers that want a warm vape and airier draw, the Aqua is fantastic. It’s super-easy to make dual-coil builds on the Aqua, making it a great choice for bakery, dessert, and tobacco vapes. While I use The Russian most of the time, for certain e-liquids — ones that are better hot — the Aqua is my go-to atty. I liked my review Aqua so much that I’ve already picked up another. Full review here.
  5. SurfRider Brass (Bay City Vapor) — I love that more American companies are making high-end mods. That said, very few of them are doing anything innovative and unique. One of the few is Bay City Vapor out of Seal Beach, California. The SurfRider uses a unique top cap that doesn’t have a typical 510 connection. Instead, your atomizer connects directly to the battery. You get the lossless performance of a hybrid with the flexibility of a 510 top cap. While I wish the button used a softer spring, I’m really, really impressed with Bay City Vapor’s debut mod. Full review here.
  6. Precise Simplicity 18650 (Super-T Manufacturing) — There was a stretch when Super-T Manufacturing was inarguably the best American mod maker. Although it has more domestic competitors in 2013, the company is still pushing out great products. The Precise Simplicity line offers Super-T’s renowned workmanship at a relatively low price. For $135, you get a brilliantly-made mech that’s backed by a lifetime warranty. Full review here.
  7. El Kapitan v2 (Wu Tang House of Mods) — It’s Filipino. It’s copper. It looks frickin’ cool. That’s the El Kapitan v2 in a nutshell. While I’m rooting for American mod makers to step up their games and dominate the world, I’m always happy to see great vaping products from the Philippines. The El Kapitan v2 is stylish and its copper body helps it deliver strong performance. I’ve been on a copper kick for the last couple of months and now have three copper mods. The El Kapitan v2 is still my favorite. Full review here.
  8. GP Spheroid v2 (Vapour Art) — While Vapour Art fans adore this atomizer, I think it’s criminally underrated. It delivers outstanding flavor and throat hit while offering decent capacity. Since it uses filler to hold juice, there’s a horrible misconception that this atomizer’s flavor is comparable to that of a cartomizer. That’s dead wrong. You get dripper-like flavor, around 2.5ml of capacity, and Vapour Art’s stellar workmanship. Full review here.
  9. iTaste VV 3.0 (Innokin) — See, I like digital mods too! While there are many small variable-voltage vaping devices, there aren’t many variable-wattage ones. The first one I used was the iTaste VV 3.0. It is easily pocketable, offers the flexibility of variable-wattage, and has great performance for this type of vaping device. It’s what I grab when I go out for a quick errand. While I generally prefer mechanical mods, I’m happy that the iTaste VV 3.0 is in my arsenal. It’s super-convenient and has been a lifesaver on several occasions. Full review here.
  10. RPadTV Mod — This mechanical mod has my face on it. Do you really need more reasons?!? Just kidding. Seriously, it’s fun having a mod that’s “you” and I sincerely hope you considering picking one up to help keep this site’s vaping content going.

Now it’s your turn! I’d love to hear about your favorite hardware of the year. Kindly share your top 10 vaping devices of 2013 (or however many you’d like) in the comments section. For my favorite juices of the year, check out my top 10 e-liquids of 2013 list.

Vaping Diaries #165: Top 10 E-Liquids of 2013

Since the year is wrapping up, I thought it would be a great time to look back and think about the many juices I vaped in 2013. Below is a list of the top 10 e-liquids of 2013, but there are several things I’d like you to keep in mind. While most of the juices on the list are 2013 releases, there are some older releases that are simply new to my tastebuds. Obviously this list is completely subjective. The e-liquids I enjoy the most are made with naturally-extracted tobacco or are complex blends. Just because I’m enamored with these juices doesn’t mean that they’ll be instant hits for you. Lastly, I’d love to hear about your top 10 e-liquids of 2013 (or however many you’d like to post). Kindly take a moment and share your favorite juices of the year in the comments section. Now onto the list!

  1. Sahara Blend (Ahlusion) — This a brilliant mix of Turkish and Virginia tobaccos. What I love about this juice is that there’s so much going on. It’s sweet, spicy, and dry all at the same time. While I’ve had Turkish blends that have similar qualities to this juice, none of them can match Sahara Blend’s complexity. The excellent flavor and complexity have it first on my top 10 e-liquids of 2013 list. After vaping my review bottle (review will be filmed soon!), I’ve ordered a few 60ml refills. That’s how much I enjoy this one.
  2. Honey Cured (Ahlusion) — This juice is a masterful blend of bold tobacco and bright honey sweetness. As with the other Ahlusion aromatics, the tobacco is authentic and stronger than what most companies offer. The honey sweetness is strong and true, and perfectly complemented by the flavorful tobacco. I’m always amazed by the stellar balance Ahlusion achieves with so many of its juices. This is a sterling example of that. Full review here.
  3. Gambit (Five Pawns) — There are a ton of apple pie e-liquids on the market, but this is the most remarkable one that I’ve vaped. The complexity is off the charts. You can taste the apple, vanilla, crust, and cream. I haven’t had an apple pie juice this good and it would take an extraordinary blend to top it — Gambit (the Five Pawns juice, not the pansy Cajun Marvel superhero) is just amazing stuff. Full review here.
  4. Castle Long Reserve (Five Pawns) — A limited-edition release, I was lucky enough to get two bottles of the first batch of this juice. It’s stellar. Like Gambit, the complexity is amazing. You can make out the coconut, toasted almond, and vanilla flavors, as well as a touch of oak. I’ve heard from several friends that the second release of this juice is a tad different and not quite as good. That means that I’ll savor every last drop of the original Castle Long Reserve that I have left. Full review here.
  5. Lychee (Bamskilicious) — This juice was given a shout-out by Ricky from Dr. Mike’s Rad Vapors during our Vapetoberfest 2013 interview. I bought a 10ml at a local shop to try it out…and have probably picked up around 200ml since then. As an Asian-American, I’ve consumed a lot of lychee (both canned and fresh). It’s one of my favorite fruits in the world and this juice replicates the flavor of canned lychee perfectly. In fact, I’m vaping some in my Russian atomizer as I type this.
  6. Gold Member (Ahlusion) — It took a month of steeping for it to become great, but this dessert juice ended up being exactly what I wanted. A few years ago, salted caramel desserts were the rage in Los Angeles. This juice lets me enjoy that outstanding flavor without the calories. That’s a complete win! Full review here.
  7. Banyan Tree (The Vape Tree) — This company was started by a fine gentlemen that I met on ECF. Initially, this was my second-favorite juice of his, but now I like it best. The flavor is unique and complex — a rich bakery-type vape complemented nicely by tobacco. The sweetness of the multiple dessert flavors is wonderfully cut by the earthiness of the tobacco. Full review here.
  8. Americano Ciambella (P.O.E.T.) — Another complex vape, I was intrigued by this juice’s description when I chatted with POET CEO Randy Freer at ECC 2013. Maple is the dominant flavor, and it’s complemented by coffee and subtle tobacco notes. Randy described it as his morning drive — eating a maple bar, drinking a cup of coffee, and smoking a cigarette on the way to work. While I rarely drive, the combination, complexity, and wonderfully subtle background notes made this one a winner for me.
  9. Grant’s Vanilla Custard — To be completely honest, I didn’t want to love this juice. Through no fault of the creator, it’s ridiculously overhyped. Some of the reasons are that it’s difficult to obtain and opportunistic people flip bottles of it for double the cost (or more). While I abhor the “flipper” aspect of this juice (again, not the creator’s fault), I’ve come to really enjoy this excellent custard e-liquid. It’s sweet and rich, with the perfect amount of eggy flavor (for me). While I maintain that it’s overhyped, there’s a reason why this is the vanilla custard juice that all other vanilla custard juices are compared to. And yeah, I’ve gone through 100ml of this stuff and have 200ml steeping.
  10. Pinoy Punch (The Vape Tree) — This one got me attention with its awesome name and kept it with its use of mangosteen. Another one of my favorite fruits, mangosteen is awesome and rarely found in e-liquids. This blend also uses other tropical fruits and has a thick texture that I really enjoyed. But, it’s the mangosteen that made this one of my top 10 e-liquids of 2013. Full review here.

Now it’s your turn! Kindly share your top 10 e-liquids of 2013 in the comments section when you have a chance. I’d love to see your picks. I’m hoping to see some juices I’ve never heard of or haven’t considered. Perhaps I’ll review some of your picks in 2014. Fire away (please)! Coffee Talk #608: Your 2013 Movie of the Year

Now that we’ve discussed the 2013 game of the year, it’s time to talk about the 2013 movie of the year. There were a lot of nerd movies released in 2013: The WolverineKick-Ass 2, Iron Man 3Thor: The Dark World, and more. Most of these movies were okay for me; I liked a lot of them, but didn’t really love any of them…except for one. Despite being panned by many longtime fans and despite getting shredded by butt-hurt science fundamentalists, I super-enjoyed…continued

If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Despite being panned by many longtime fans and despite getting shredded by butt-hurt science fundamentalists, I super-enjoyed Star Trek: Into Darkness. I went over most of the reasons in my review, but since I’ve watched the movie several times since then (and also for the purposes of this column), I’ll fawn over the movie some more.

JJ Abrams’ reinvigorated the Star Trek franchise in his initial reboot and his fun take on the beloved sci-fi universe continues in Stark Trek: Into Darkness. I really love his modern twist on Star Trek; it’s fun, clever, and current. Thanks to some space-time manipulation, the new Star Trek isn’t beholden to the previous works. This has freed the new writers and directors, and I’ve been digging what they’ve come up with.

Star Trek: Into Darkness is fun and fast. It doesn’t confuse the audience with overly complicated science fiction. The cast is great and I could write a paragraph about each of the leads. Naturally, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are the top dogs. Those cats excel as Kirk and Spock (though I will always think less of Chris Pine for sleeping with the dreadful Olivia Munn). Simon Pegg is a wonderfully hilarious Scotty. Newcomer Alice Eve…is one of the sexiest humans that ever existed; she’s beautiful, she’s incredibly smart, and she has that alluring accent — just…wow.

A few of my friends have bagged on the actual science in Star Trek: Into Darkness, especially in the opening scene. To this I say, “Who gives a sh*t?!?” The opening scene was so much fun! The action and humor were fantastic. I don’t care that you can’t stop a volcano from exploding with a cold-fusion bomb and that you shouldn’t submerge a spaceship. That scene rocked and set the tone for the movie.

To sum it all up, Star Trek: Into Darkness was my 2013 movie of the year because of its clever writing, deft directing, strong performances, sweet special effects, and outstanding use Alice Eve.

Now it’s your turn! What was your 2013 movie of the year? Kindly share your feelings in the comments section.

Vaping Diaries #164: Ahlusion Review VII

Here’s a review of three juices from my favorite e-liquid company, Ahlusion. This time around, I cover a trio of juices that will appeal to vapers with a sweet tooth and to tobacco lovers. Gold Member is a relatively new addition to Ahlusion’s lineup, giving the company a salted-caramel offering. Vecchio Blend is a delicious vanilla tobacco. Last, it Gold Rising, which is a curious juice with an unusual quality that some vapers will love and some vapers will hate.

Gold Member: Out of the mailbox, this salted caramel e-liquid was just okay for me. When fresh, it has a “toasty” quality that I didn’t care for. It spoiled the overall balance of the juice, but with some steeping…man oh man, this became another Ahlusion juice that I love. The toasty quality fell into the background after about a month of steeping, allowing me to enjoy a rich caramel that’s wonderfully complemented by saltiness. Salted caramel desserts were the rage in Los Angeles in 2011-2012 and this juice allows me to enjoy that flavor without the calories. I especially enjoyed this juice using a sub-ohm setup in an Aqua atomizer; the dual coils made Gold Member a delicious hot dessert treat.

On a side note, while I became a big fan of this juice after a month of steeping, I’m still weirded out by having the salted caramel taste in my mouth without the salty sensation on my tongue. It confuses my simple brain.

Juice Specs: 6mg nicotine, 50/50 PG/VG

Vecchio Blend: This non-aromatic tobacco e-liquid takes a light tobacco (and I mean light by Ahlusion’s standards) and mixes it with a lovely vanilla bean flavor. I enjoyed this juice fresh, but absolutely adored it after a month of steeping. When fresh, the vanilla is a bit more pronounced. After some steeping, the blend was perfect for me. The fantastic and authentic vanilla bean flavor is pleasantly sweet without dominating the light and authentic tobacco. One of my favorite qualities of several Ahlusion juices is how the flavors blend together perfectly. Vecchio Blend (after steeping) is another great example of this.

Out of the three juices in this review, Vecchio Blend was my favorite. I quickly went through my 30ml review bottle and have ordered a 60ml bottle since then. This is a fantastic vanilla tobacco e-liquid and I highly recommend it.

Juice Specs: 6mg nicotine, 50/50 PG/VG

Gold Rising: Curious is the word that best describes this honey-tobacco juice. The description lists it as Ahlusion’s take on the original RY4. I’ve had some of the original RY4 out of the creator’s freezer and this juice doesn’t taste anything like that. Some have speculated that this is, perhaps, a take on the original Ruyan 4, since it has some qualities similar to Chinese tobacco e-liquids. Just be warned that this doesn’t taste like a typical Asian or Western RY4 juice.

What it does taste like is a solid honey tobacco. The sweetness of the honey and bite of the tobacco come together nicely. Also in the mix is a pungent quality that’s very much a love or hate thing. People that enjoy this juice will dig the funkiness of the flavor, while people that hate it will be thinking about urine. (Actually, I know a guy that enjoys this juice and still equates it with urine. Hi Jerms!)

Personally, I liked this juice but didn’t love it. Most of the time I enjoyed it enough, but there were times when it made me think, “This is…strange.” For a honey tobacco, I greatly preferred Ahlusion’s Honey Cured over Gold Member. Since Honey Cured is an aromatic, the tobacco is much stronger and for me the honey-tobacco blend is tastier.

Juice Specs: 6mg nicotine, 50/50 PG/VG

Ahlusion Vecchio Blend

Steeping and Review Notes (Updated December 29, 2013)
On the advice of Wlad from Ahlusion, I’ve been trying a new steeping method as of December 27, 2012. When the e-liquids arrive, I leave them uncapped for five minutes. Previously, I left them uncapped for about two days. After the liquids are given a few minutes to oxidize, the caps are put back on.

RPad.TV e-liquid reviews focus on the flavor of the e-liquids, since throat hit and vapor production can be altered by the PG/VG ratio and nicotine level selected. Each juice is vaped over a period of days in a bottom-coil silica atomizer (The Russian and Aqua), various rebuildable dripping atomizers, and a clearomizer.

Vaping Diaries #163: Vape Syndicate Guardian Review

If you’re looking for a luxury vaping device that’s made in America then the Vape Syndicate Guardian should be on your short list. Constructed primarily from titanium — an expensive metal that’s crazy strong and ridiculously light — the Vape Syndicate Guardian is a hybrid mod that comes with several accessories. While many titanium mods cost $400 for the mod alone, the Guardian comes with a Genesis-style atomizer, two tubes (18650 and 18500), and a 510 cap for when you don’t want to go hybrid. While the $475 price is high compared to most mechanical mods, compared to other titanium mods the Vape Syndicate Guardian is something of a bargain.

Build Quality and Construction: The Vape Syndicate Guardian is made from a thick cut of titanium. The company starts with a 99.9-percent block of type-two titanium, as opposed to prefabricated tubes other companies use. The mod has a luxurious feel, while also being simple to maintain.

The mod’s contact points are made from brass. While it’s a tried-and-true metal for contacts, I would have liked to have seen something more conductive to match this mod’s premium feel. Silver-plated copper/brass or rhodium-plated copper/brass would have been excellent, as well as more conductive.

The caps and switch are totally straightforward. Vape Syndicate chose to go with a simple magnet system for the firing mechanism, as opposed to a complicated spring-switch. One minor gripe I have with the Guardian is its 510 cap — the contact isn’t easily adjustable.

The Genesis-style atomizer has a few nifty tricks up its sleeve. First up is the ceramic-covered center post. This is a great feature for novices and veterans alike; the ceramic isolator increases your margin for error when building and helps prevent shorts. The atomizer also has a vented negative terminal screw, allowing you to refill quickly.

The aforementioned quibbles aside, the Vape Syndicate Guardian is a well-constructed device. The quality of the titanium is easily noticeable, the craftsmanship is strong, and the mod has a high-end feel.

Design and Ergonomics: Vapers that have never used a titanium mod will be in for a surprise with the Vape Syndicate Guardian. Titanium is noticeably lighter than stainless steel or brass. The Guardian will feel surprisingly light to many vapers. With a full tank of juice, the mod has a top-heavy balance, which feels different from similarly sized hybrids.

Once you get used to the lightness of the body and the atypical balance, the Vape Syndicate Guardian feels lovely in your hand. The mod’s firing button is smooth, with a medium-light touch and a medium throw. The button is recessed, allowing the mod to stand without firing. Button feel is, of course, subjective. For my tastes, I liked the touch, but would have preferred a shorter throw.

As for looks, the Guardian reminds me of a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica. It has bold rings on the main tube and a red tank on the atomizer. Most vapers will find its style futuristic, masculine, and rugged.

Performance: There are two factors that help give the Vape Syndicate Guardian strong performance. Obviously, it’s a hybrid so there’s direct contact to the battery. Secondly, the magnet system is “lossless.” Those features help compensate for the relatively modest conductivity of brass and titanium. While the mod delivers a solid vape, I have used hybrids that offer stronger performance.

As for the Genesis-style atomizer, I was really happy with its performance. It’s easy to work with and delivers a hearty vape. The relatively small chamber helps deliver great flavor, while the staggered air holes (0.7 mm and 1.2 mm) offered a satisfying draw. Keep in mind that my personal preference for air flow is tight to medium. Vapers that prefer an airier draw will likely want bigger air holes.

Vape Syndicate Guardian Review

Verdict: Whenever I talk about the Vape Syndicate Guardian, I always describe it as star-spangled awesome. I love that such a great high-end mod is made in the USA. When I open up the Guardian’s box at vape shops, I picture eagles flying by and Hulk Hogan’s “Real American” theme song playing. Seriously though, the Guardian is a really well-made hybrid that offers strong performance. While the $475 price is more than what most vapers are willing to spend, it is a better value than many competing titanium mods. I’ve seen a few titanium mods that cost $400 for the mod alone. With the Vape Syndicate Guardian, you get two tubes, a Genesis-style atomizer with some innovative features, a 510 top cap, and a case. Yes, it’s expensive and certainly not for everyone, but compared to other mods in this price range, the Vape Syndicate Guardian offers a lot for your money.

If you want even more information on the Guardian and the company in general then please check out my ECC 2013 interview with Vape Syndicate CEO Adam Tout.

Coffee Talk #607: Your 2013 Game of the Year

The good news for 2013 is that I played seven games in hardcore mode. By hardcore mode, I’m talking at least 40 hours per game. That bad news (for the purposes of writing this column, anyway) is that five of them were for consulting jobs, so I can’t really state opinions on those games. In a year filled with peak games for the last generation of consoles and two new systems released at the tail end of the year, my favorite game was for…wait for it…continued

If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, the crazy injury bug plaguing the NBA, the hottest female MMA fighter, or what makes Greek yogurt Greek, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

The good news for 2013 is that I played seven games in hardcore mode. By hardcore mode, I’m talking at least 40 hours per game. That bad news (for the purposes of writing this column, anyway) is that five of them were for consulting jobs, so I can’t really state opinions on those games. In a year filled with peak games for the last generation of consoles and two new systems released at the tail end of the year, my 2013 game of the year was for…wait for it…Mac OS.

I’m talking about Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition, of course. As many of you know, I’m a huge mark for the old BioWare and this game in particular. When the original was first released, I spent hundreds of hours playing the game. With the Enhanced Edition, I spent dozens of hours reliving one of my favorite games ever, but with updated graphics, a pair of new characters, and updated gameplay features. And I loved every second of it. Yeah, it might seem totally dated to newer games, but for me Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition was sheer bliss. The writing, gameplay, and characters brought me so much joy in 2013 that it was easily my 2013 game of the year.

Naturally, I don’t expect any of you to have the same answer. That’s what makes us the unique snowflakes that we are. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear about your personal 2013 game of the year. I absolutely do! I’m excited to hear about the videogames that dazzled you in 2013. Kindly share your 2013 game of the year in the comments section.

Vaping Diaries #162: Envision Vapor Glass Drip Tip Review

Envision Vapor offers handblown glass drip tips that are made in the USA. The tips are beautiful, unique, and well made. They’re made from borosilicate glass, which many vapers know from Corning’s Pyrex brand. While some vapers are wary of glass drip tips, there are some very good reasons to consider them over plastic and metal ones. Before I get into those reasons, I want to make it clear that Envision Vapor’s glass drip tips are my favorite. I’ve been using several of these tips for the last few months and I couldn’t be happier with them.

The first reason I recommend Envision Vapor glass drip tips is mouthfeel. Glass simply feels better on your mouth than plastic or metal. Think about beverages you drink at a nice restaurant. They’re not served in plastic or metal cups. They’re served in glass. Unless you’re the type of vaper that likes to chew on drips tips, you’ll likely prefer the mouthfeel of glass over other drip tip materials.

Heat dissipation is another reason why glass drip tips are great. Out of the dozens of drips I have, glass does a superior job at dissipating heat. This is hugely important for sub-ohm vapers and chain vapers. When using a 0.5-ohm dual-coil setup, my metal drip tips get too hot and I have to stop vaping for a bit. Even my insulated metal drip tips get very warm. Although my Envision Vapor drip tips heat up during sub-ohm chain-vaping, they never get uncomfortably warm.

Some vapers shy away from glass drip tips because of perceived durability issues. The two standard Envision Vapor drip tips I have are made from fairly thick glass. I’ve seen the owner of the company bounce them off hard floors and they were fine. I’ve dropped my mod on carpeted floors (several times) and my tips were fine. The one time I broke an Envision Vapor drip tip was when I accidentally flung my mod across the room (yes, alcohol was involved) and the tip cracked. Keep in mind that this was a thinner Maria Tube. The standard Envision Vapor drip tips are durable — probably more than most vapers think.

Envision Vapor Review

For the last several months, I’ve been using Envision Vapor drip tips that are great for flavor fiends. The three shapes I’ve been using — the Maria Tube, Disc, and Teardrop models — feature thin air holes for concentrated flavor. In many ways, the Maria Tube reminds me of the draw of the standard Kayfun tip (which I love) — it shoots your mouth with a lovely, concentrated blast of flavor. If you’re a cloud chaser that’s looking for an airier draw or you want to drip directly into your drip tip then you should consider the Pooh Pot model that Envision Vapor offers. As a flavor guy, I was really happy with the three drip tip shapes I selected.

As for pricing, the standard Envision Vapor drip tips cost $29.99, while the Maria Tubes cost $15.99. While those prices are certainly higher than cheap metal or plastic drip tips that are made-in-China, the prices are inline with other high-end drip tips. Personally, I think that the prices are fair. These are made-in-the-USA products that are very well made. I like them more than enough to buy more at the $29.99 price.

Like I said in the intro, these are my favorite drip tips on the market. They look great, handle heat nicely, and feel good in your mouth. I highly recommend Envision Vapor glass drip tips. Check out the company web site to see the different models and colors available. If you’d like more information on the company then check out this interview I did with Envision Vapor owners Rob DeRieux and Jason Laret.

As an additional thank you, owners of the RPadTV mod will get additional entries in all 2014 giveaways.

Now, I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that this is the best mod in the world. It’s a good mech, but not a great one. Certainly you can get a better mod for less than what the donation costs. However, I’m hoping that enough of you enjoy RPad.TV content and believe in the site enough to pick one up. The thing to remember is that you’re not buying a mod — you’re supporting a web site you like and getting a limited edition mod as a gift. Besides, this mod has my face on it! *joke*

Completely Unreasonable Goals
In the spirit of Kickstarter, I’m listing some stretch goals. I don’t expect these to be taken seriously…but if you’re incredibly wealthy or have a rich uncle, then please check them out.

$1,500: For a donation of $1,500 you get the mod and a video on your favorite American mod or juice vendor. A cameraman and I will fly out to your favorite U.S. company and film a segment (or more!) on the company of your choice. Please list three companies so that arrangements can be made.

$3,500: For a donation of $3,500 you get the mod and a video on your favorite mod or juice vendor from anywhere in the world. A cameraman and I will fly out to your favorite company and film a segment (or more!) on the company of your choice. Please list three companies so that arrangements can be made.

Okay, back to reality! If you’re not interested in picking up an RPadTV mod and would like to support the site then please buy yourself something from Amazon using this link. If you are interested in getting an RPadTV mod, I can’t wait to hear from you! And please, tell your friends about this fundraising venture. With your help, RPad.TV’s vaping content will be better than ever.

Let’s Play Heroes of Dragon Age!

For the last few months, I’ve been playing a ton of Let’s Play Heroes of Dragon Age. For professional reasons, I can’t review the game, but I’d love for you RPadholics to give it a shot. It’s available on iTunes for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices. So please, please, please give it a download and give the game some time. When you’re done with that, kindly share your (completely unfiltered) thoughts on the game in the comments section.

For those of you that need more information, Heroes of Dragon Age is a strategy game of sorts. You take a team of characters and (kind of) battle your way through different parts of the Dragon Age universe. Different periods of history are explored. There’s a huge collectible aspect to the game as well. You’ll be able to earn or buy some really cool characters — including heroes and villains from the videogames.

Here’s an excerpt from the official description:

Collect the heroes. Become a legend! Build a party of famous warriors and epic monsters from Dragon Age lore. Battle other players in strategic, CCG-inspired 3D combat. Fight bosses on engaging quests from the award-winning, dark fantasy RPG games.

Like I said, I’ve been playing a ton of Heroes of Dragon Age. Part of it is due to habits developed from work and part of it is that I’m addicted to collecting the characters (it’s the Pokemon nerd in me). I love the Dragon Age role-playing games and while I can’t say that I love Heroes of Dragon Age, I admit that I’m addicted to it — worts and all.

But I’ve probably said too much. Ha! That’s where you come in. Let’s do this as a fun group activity. I’d super appreciate it if you gave the game a whirl. Please note that the early going is slow and you’ll probably need to spend a couple of hours with it before things get interesting. At that point, I’m sure you guys and gals will have lots of interesting things to say about the game. Fire away (please)!
