All Retail NGP Games Will Be Available Digitally: Do You Care?

In a recent interview with MCV, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Andrew House said, “All [NGP] games that appear physically will be made available digitally.” While I absolutely love the immediacy and convenience of digital media, I know that some of you love physical media. Do you care that all NGP retail games will have digital equivalents? Will the NGP change the way you buy games? Can you see yourself buying the majority of games for your NGP digitally? Or are you still tied to the box and manual?

This Week’s Videogame Releases

There are lots of interesting games dropping this week, spanning a wide variety of genres. I’ve really gotten into this season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, so I’m curious about LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. Graphics whores will want to keep an eye on Crysis 2. Koei is at it again with Dynasty Warriors 7. Do you miss Lara Croft? Well you can relive her greatest adventures in Tomb Raider Trilogy. Square Enix continues its quietly strong Q1 with Dissidia 012 [Duodecim] — it’s always cool to see characters from different Final Fantasy games hanging out together.

March continues to come in like a lion with a number of strong videogame releases. THQ has high hopes for Homefront and is dropping a ton of marketing dollars on this action game. Yakuza 4 will appeal to gamers that want to spend some time in the world of Japanese organized crime. Top Spin 4 adds motion controls to 2K’s long running tennis series. Warriors: Legends of Troy is like Samurai Warriors, but with men in leather skirts and sandals. Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel adds another installment to this quirky Japanese RPG series. Gods Eater Burst is one of my favorite videogame names in a long, long time — it’s just awesomely weird.

I’m still kicking around Kirkwall in Dragon Age 2, so I’m good for a bit. How about you? Any of you picking up new games this week?

New Dissidia 012 Video is Full of Lightning (and Yuna!)

My favorite thing about the Dissidia series is marking out when heroes from different Final Fantasy games share the screen. This latest Dissidia 012 [Duodecim] clip features Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII and Yuna from Final Fantasy X (as well as loads of other characters). That’s so awesome! Lightning has a ton of fans, but I’m a pretty big Yuna mark — FFX is my favorite “modern” Final Fantasy game and I thought she was a charming character. Seeing them together gives me warm fuzzies…and also naughty thoughts of watching them make out.

This Week’s Videogame Releases

So many great games out this week!!! Leading the way are Pokemon Black/White and Dragon Age II. But wait! There’s more!!! Baseball fans have Major League Baseball 2K11 and MLB 11 The Show to keep them happy until opening day. Whether it’s catching imaginary animals and giving them the Michael Vick treatment, swords and sorcery, or America’s pastime, there’s a hot game for you.

This Week’s Videogame Releases

February getting to chilly for you? Then let these hot games warm you up! Bulletstorm has been getting a ton of buzz for its unapologetic action and this Mike “Busta” Capps interview (*snicker*). Killzone 3 is sure to dazzle PS3 action fans. If those action games aren’t for you then perhaps Knights Contract is just what the doctor ordered. I’m personally hoping De Blob 2 does well; the first game was refreshingly original and I hear that the second one is even better. Last but not least is a pair of excellent RPG re-releases for the PSP: Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness and Ys I and II.

Sony Ericsson PlayStation Tablet (Android) in the Works

Engadget has a hot scoop on an upcoming Sony Ericsson tablet that runs Google Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and Sony PlayStation Suite. The rumor follows the official announcement of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play, which offers Google Android and PlayStation Suite in a mobile phone. Here are more details on the Sony Ericsson Google Android PlayStation tablet (you must use all six words):

Although the tablet looks like a hollow 9.4-inch capacitive touch panel sporting a 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution from the distance, the space between the the front and back wrapped panels is actually stuffed with a battery and circuitry including a Tegra 2 processor. As such, you won’t be hanging it from the towel rack. It also features both front- and rear-facing cameras as well as a USB-A port that plays host to USB thumb drives or media devices. The only physical buttons — volume and on / off — are located on the edge of each indented side. There’s also the possibility that the S1 will feature a “Q” (for Qriocity) button but that decision has not been finalized, according to one of our sources. Oh, and there’s an IR port built-in allowing you to control devices other than your Bravia TV. The front face is finished in a high-gloss black that sits flush with the display and continues in one unobstructed sweep to the back of the tablet where a subtle dot matrix texture is applied to enhance the grip. The underside is a matte-silver color creating a nice contrast. All materials, we’re told, feel very premium though it’s unclear if we’re talking plastic, aluminum, or something else.

The rumor isn’t surprising considering how hot the tablet market will be in 2011. It’s nice to see Sony wisely expanding the reach of the PlayStation brand through its Sony Ericsson branch. It’s about time those folks started playing nice together.

EEDAR’s Jesse Divnich Talks Nintendo 3DS vs. Sony NGP

EEDAR vice president Jesse Divnich was kind enough to chat with me about the upcoming console war between the Nintendo 3DS and the Sony NGP. As the #1 analyst in the videogame business, IMHO, Jesse’s opinion is meaningful and powerful. He also answered one of RPadholic bsukenyan’s excellent questions.
