Dave Oshry Talks Rise of the Triad

Here’s a conversation I had with my pal Dave Oshry, marketing director for the upcoming Rise of the Triad remake. Originally released in 1995, Rise of the Triad was a cult classic first-person shooter that was the victim of bad timing. It had its share of ardent fans, but being sandwiched by Doom II and Quake was…unfortunate. The great news is that Interceptor Entertainment is taking the fast and funky gameplay of Rise of the Triad and updating it with Unreal Engine 3 graphics. Learn more about the game as Oshry talks about:

  • Why gamers — new and old — should care about a Rise of the Triad remake
  • How Facebook and Skype played integral roles in making this game happen
  • A videogame journalist that called out Dave on this remake back in January
  • Reactions to the game’s unveiling at QuakeCon 2012
  • Why it’s being made with Unreal Engine 3

Obviously I’m biased because I like Dave, but I think we had a fun chat that’s worth listening to. He’s a charming and dynamic speaker…and I’ve never told him this, but he’s like the Zack Ryder of videogame marketers. Rise of the Triad was loads of fun back in the day and I can’t wait to play a modern version of this classic shooter. Razer BlackShark Review (Video)

Kindly check out this video review of the Razer BlackShark Battlefield 3 gaming headset. This baby features enhanced bass response and a unique aviator style. As RPadholic Iceman pointed out, the BlackShark looks very similar to David Clark headsets used by many helicopter pilots. Some of you will remember this headset from this E3 2012 Razer booth tour. You can see the full specs here.

Overall, I loved the BlackShark’s looks and was impressed by its comfort level. However, there could be some audio issues depending on if you use your headset for certain genres of music and certain types of movies. Also, the price for this stereo headset is up there with competing 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound models.

Check out the review and let me know what you think of the Razer BlackShark (please!).

One of my E3 2012 surprises was NBA Baller Beats. This unique music-rhythm game for Xbox 360 Kinect is controlled with a basketball. E3 2012: Epic Mickey 2 Video Interview

Disney’s Epic Mickey was a wonderful game, but a lot of hardcore gamers didn’t play it because it was a Wii exclusive. That won’t be a problem with Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. Junction Point Studios is taking the game to new heights and to more gamers than ever since this super sequel will hit PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
