Vaping Diaries #365: Shado Vapor MGNT RDA Interview

One of the coolest atomizers I’ve seen all year, the Shado Vapor MGNT RDA has several unique features that make it stand out from the competition. At Vape Nights 2015, company cofounder Jeff Freeman walked me through the MGNT RDA. The atomizer’s magnetic top cap catches your eye immediately. It’s self-adjusting, which is convenient for two reasons. First, you don’t have to take the top cap completely off for dripping juice. Secondly, you don’t have to worry about losing airflow position. Since the MGNT RDA uses a top airflow design, it’s highly leak resistant. Under the hood, the MGNT RDA sports a three-post design, with a gold-plated brass center post that offers a combination of strong conductivity and corrosion resistance. The MGNT RDA has unique features, clean looks, and vapes great. Best of all, it’s relatively inexpensive at $60.

Jeff also told me about Shado Vapor’s e-liquids, made in conjunction with the excellent people at POET. Similar to POET’s excellent e-liquids, Shado Vapor has a pair of pleasantly atypical juices. First up is Rosy Lee, which is a sweet black tea latte. RPadholic N8R really enjoyed this juice at the show. While I also enjoyed Rosy Lee, I preferred Shado Vapor’s Liquid Courage. This flavor combines black sesame, vanilla, bourbon, and several other “secret” ingredients. As a huge fan of Asian desserts with black sesame, I’m loving Liquid Courage.

Closing things out, Jeff told me about some of the box mods he’s working on. He has single-battery and dual-battery boxes in the works. He plans on adding some security features to Shado Vapor’s box mods that have never been seen in vaping. While he wouldn’t give me exact details at this time, he said that he would be using Bluetooth connectivity and a companion app to enhance the functionality of his box mods. As a tech nerd, I can’t wait to see what he does with the Bluetooth features.

Vaping Diaries #328: POET Passport Series Interview (ECC 2015)

One of my favorite discoveries at ECC 2013 was POET Electronic Nectar. Back then, the SoCal e-liquid scene was dominated by fruit flavors, mostly artificial and/or candied. POET was the first SoCal juice maker I met that made the kinds of complex and layered juices that I enjoy. Since that meeting, I’ve had POET CEO Randy Freer on RPadTV several times and had the pleasure of enjoying his excellent company at various vape events. It has been a privilege getting to know the man behind the brilliant e-liquids. At ECC 2015, Randy told me about the POET Passport Series line of e-liquids and the first two flavors in the lineup — Green Dragon Tea and Mexican Coffee.

Some of you will recall that Randy had a fun contest during ECC 2014, where he let fans decide on his next flavor. The first two flavors in the POET Passport Series were born from that contest; they didn’t win the fan vote back then, but they were way too delicious to discard. I was extremely high on the Mexican Coffee e-liquid when it was first introduced in 2014. Randy has tweaked the formula since then and what I tried at ECC 2015 was even better than what I remembered — a fantastic blend of coffee, bitter chocolate, and Mexican spices. Green Dragon Tea is also wonderful, blending tea, fruit, and creamy notes for a blissful melange. With these two flavors, the POET Passport Series should be off to an excellent start.

The Vape 48 Week 5: POET Electronic Nector’s Randy Freer

POET Electronic Nectar is one of my favorite e-liquid companies in the world, so I was thrilled that CEO Randy Freer was kind enough to stop by Vape Star Los Angeles for The Vape 48. The company makes several complex e-liquid blends that I absolutely adore and Randy is one of the nicest people I’ve met in the vaping business (or any business, really). More importantly for you guys and dolls, Randy is quite smart and interesting. To kick off this episode of The Vape 48, he gave an update on what’s happening with POET and talked about his involvement with the Njoy Artist Collection.

Many enthusiast vapers think of Njoy as a mainstream e-cigarette company that sells basic “cigalike” products. The Artist Collection is a series of e-liquids geared towards enthusiast vapers and made by some of the top juice creators in the world. As a fan of POET, I’m jazzed that Randy is involved with the Artist Collection and it was fun hearing him talk about the project.

On the hardware side, Randy brought a pair of small 18350 tube mods and a pair of box mods to chat about. He’s been thrilled with the stealth-vaping combo of the Monake Vape Calvert mod and the Praxis Vapors Derringer atomizer. The Damascus steel Element Mods 18350 prototype he brought was absolutely gorgeous. On the box mod front, Randy has been enjoying the Vapor Shark rDNA and the Sigelei 100. My hardware pick was the original Youde Tech Goblin, one of the best rebuildable tank atomizers I’ve tried as far as vapor production goes. Since the time this interview was filmed (February 2015), Youde has updated the Goblin and addressed the capacity shortcoming I mentioned in the video below. If you’re a cloud chaser that wants some capacity, the Youde Goblin is a compelling choice.

On the juice side, Randy brought four e-liquids from Proper Vape. He was enamored by the complexity of these juices and how they used tobacco as a complementary flavor. I brought Vader from Cyber Liquids (a delicious cookie dough juice) and Don Pedro from Bizarre Juice Supply (a wonderful dessert and tobacco blend).

Check out my chat with POET Electronic Nectar CEO Randy Freer for an update on his excellent company and to learn more about all the products mentioned above.

Vaping Diaries #247: Poet Electronic Nectar Randy Freer Interview (ECC 2014)

Poet Electronic Nectar is one of my favorite e-liquid companies in the vaping business. The company makes complex and layered e-liquids that I find absolutely delightful. I’m a huge fan of the way the company mixes heavy and light flavors to create intricate vaping blends. With all of that in mind, meeting up with Poet Electronic Nectar CEO Randy Freer was a top priority for me at ECC 2014. In addition to running a great American vaping company and creating some delicious e-liquids, Randy is a very sweet and very interesting man. Naturally, it was a pleasure chatting with him at the show.

At ECC 2014, Randy debuted three new flavors and was using the show to decide which one will be released next. My personal favorite of the three was his Mexican coffee blend, which was flavorful and rich, while also standing out from the numerous coffee e-liquids on the market. The most popular of the new Poet Electronic Nectar flavors at ECC 2014 was the bourbon spiced roll. Lastly, the company’s dragon green tea was a bit lighter than the other two, but also a tasty and distinct e-liquid. While I’d love for all three of these to be released, I’m hoping the Mexican coffee juice gets the nod.

On a different note, Poet Electronic Nectar is entering the hardware side of the vaping business. Randy’s diverse background and a partnership with Vape Savvy will result in The 53 Mod. The company had prototypes at the show and they were very impressive. Aesthetically, The 53 Mod has an understated and elegant look that I’m a fan of, while there’s a lot of great engineering going on under the hood. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this mod ends up.

Watch my ECC 2014 with Poet Electronic Nectar CEO Randy Freer to get an update on this stellar vaping company.

Vaping Diaries #112: Poet Electronic Nectar Randy Freer Interview

Out of all the e-liquid companies I chatted with at ECC 2013, POET (Pursuit of Excellent Taste) was one of the most impressive. The company takes a complex and culinary approach to making e-liquids. POET juices are not single-note flavors, but complex blends of multiple tastes. For example, POET CEO Randy Freer described his Americano Ciambella as his “morning drive.” It features maple, coffee, and tobacco flavors, as if you were munching on a maple bar, sipping a cup of joe, and smoking a cigarette during a commute.

In the video interview above, Randy talks about the company’s start, his philosophy on juice making, the POET lineup, and what’s next for the POET. I tasted several new e-liquids at ECC 2013 and POET’s were some of the most memorable. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this new company develops.
