Empire magazine has some great shots of the Bane costume from the upcoming Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises. With the negative reactions Catwoman’s costume received, I was hoping for something better with Bane. Unfortunately, I can’t get behind the Bane costume. To me, they’re trying too hard to make him look like Hannibal Lecter. In my head, Bane’s mask resembled that of a luchador and the “Venom” drug was pumped into the back of his head. Here it looks like Venom is feeding into his mouth. Also, what’s up with Bane’s jacket?!?
Any of you digging the updated look? Or are you disappointed. Please let me know what you think of Bane’s costume from The Dark Knight Rises?

Last night I went to a screening of The Muppets and left the theater completely charmed. It’s a fun and cute movie that mixes the classic feel of the Muppets previous musical adventures with several modern twists. As expected, Jason Segel’s screenplay was respectful and reverent to Jim Henson’s timeless creations. What surprised me was several twists that could have felt dated, but were executed with a boldness that said, “Screw it. We’re going to do it the classic way and have fun with it!”
I loved the musical numbers. I loved the self referential jokes. A lot of the cameos were awesome (Dave Grohl’s was amazing, given the context), though some of them were weird (James Carville?!?). Most of all, I just loved the movie’s feel. It was positive and uplifting while being silly and humorous. It made me want to buy The Green Album. While some of the original Muppet puppeteers have problems with the new movie, I think that Jim Henson would have been proud.
I’m extremely curious to see how the movie performs and what reactions will be like. Older viewers that grew up with The Muppet Show will love it. Little kids will enjoy it. I’m not so sure about teens and young adults (the Twilight crowd). They’re too young to have Muppet nostalgia and old enough to find foam actors kind of stupid. Will a movie that centers around a variety show (not the most popular genre in America) and musical numbers appeal to them? I have my doubts, but I also hope the positive nature of the movie will appeal to children of all ages.
What are you thoughts on the movie? How will it play with the Twilight crowd? Any of you planning to see The Muppets next week?
I’m not sure what’s more surprising — the British government banning Dakota Fanning’s advertisement for Marc Jacobs’ Oh, Lola! perfume or that Dakota Fanning is getting kind of hot. On one hand, England is the country that gave us “Page 3 Girls”. I figured those cats would be okay with an ad featuring an attractive 17-year old star. (Plus, those guys produced Emma Watson.) On the other hand, I never would have guessed the adorable girl from I Am Sam would transform into a sexy young woman.
Check out the photo from the advertisement below and share your thoughts on the Oh, Lola! banning.
I’m so pissed at Brett Ratner. He had to idiotically use the word “faggot” in an interview, which caused a whirlwind of controversy that led to him bowing out of producing The Oscars. Now all the attention has been taken away from his sordid tales of Olivia Munn. That sucks! Just in case you haven’t heard, here’s what Ratner said about the woman a lot of you know as Bolivia Bunn:
I used to date Olivia Munn, I’ll be honest with everyone here, but when she was Lisa. She wasn’t Asian back then. She was hanging out on my set of After the Sunset. I banged her a few times, but I forgot her. Because she changed her name, I didn’t know it was the same person and so when she auditioned for me for a TV show, I forgot her. She got pissed off, and so she made up all these stories about me eating shrimp and masturbating in my trailer. And she talked about my shortcomings.
Ratner later admitted that he made the whole thing up, but I’m going to conveniently ignore that. I found it hilarious that he accused Munn of being fake, exploiting her ethnicity for career advancement, and being forgettable. That’s awesome. I’m going to choose to focus on the statement above instead of his insensitive remarks and getting heat from The Academy.

Considering that I recently attended the premiere of A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas and it’s Coffee Talk #420, I thought that it would be a good time to discuss your favorite stoner movies. Since the the groundbreaking Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke, the stoner genre has become a Hollywood moneymaker. Just look at movies like Dazed and Confused, Harold & Kumar, Half Baked, etc. Several characters found in Kevin Smith movies and most of the characters Seth Rogen plays owe a lot to the the stoner genre. It’s here to stay!
Out of all the stoner movies out there, what’s your favorite? Do you love the Cheech & Chong classics? Are you more of a Dazed and Confused guy? Are Jay & Silent Bob your role models? Were you floored by the 3D marijuana smoke in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas? Kindly share your stoner movie picks in the comments section!
Justin Leeper and I were lucky enough to get to chat with the legendary Casper Van Dien on the set of the upcoming videogame movie Noobz. The Starship Troopers star talks about his roles (multiple) in the movie, whether he can take on Dom from Gears of War, New Jersey vs. wherever the hell Justin is from, and more. It’s a fun and loose interview with a great man. Check it out and let me know what you think (please!).
Actor Jason Mewes (Clerks II) and director Blake Freeman talk about their upcoming videogame movie Noobz in this excellent video. In addition to the movie, the two talk about Gears of War 3, discuss first-person vs. third-person action, send a special message to Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski, and go off-topic in a hilariously lewd way. The legendary Casper Van Dien also pops up in the video making it extra awesome. Warning: this interview contains lots of naughty language and dirty references.
Special thanks to Justin Leeper for conducting the interview while I cracked up behind the camera.
Super important poll today: it’s Casper Van Dien vs. Michael Dudikoff in a battle of bad-asses!!! On one hand, Dudikoff is an American Ninja. He’s American. He’s a ninja. He beats the hell out of non-American ninjas. On other hand, Van Dien is Johnny Frickin’ Rico! He slaughters giant alien bugs the same way you or I would swat gnats. Plus, he’s also been Tarzan and James Dean. More pluses include the fact that he’s co-producing the videogame movie Noobz and he follow me on Twitter.
This isn’t really a fair contest. It’s clearly Van Dien all the way…but I’ll let you decide. Please vote and comment!

One of the highlights of my Noobz set visit was meeting Casper Van Dien. During our interview, he was super funny and charming. My buddy Justin and I were surprised when Casper hung out with us for a bit after the camera stopped rolling. It was a fun chat that spanned a wide variety of topics: New York vs. New Jersey, getting rattlesnake boots in Thailand, air pollution in Manila, martial arts, and more. I even texted Cliff Bleszinski on his behalf. Ha!
Hanging out with him was especially cool for Justin since Starship Troopers is one of his favorite movies of all time. My mark-out moment was when Casper said, “You on Twitter? What’s your handle? I’ll follow you.” This was awesome because he actually did it himself…right in front of me…on his BlackBerry. Usually these things take place through intermediaries.
Casper introduced me to his (gorgeous) daughter, India Oxenberg. She plays a member of the girl-gamer team in the movie. It turns out that she’s pals with the excellent Chris Cross, one of my favorite peeps in the gaming business. That was a cool coincidence.
Anyway, I know that a lot of you are still big marks for Michael Dudikoff. I’m going to use today’s column to encourage you to drop him as your favorite action star and replace him with Casper Van Dien. He completely rules!
Here are some photos from the set of the movie Noobz, including a few with actor Jason Mewes and director Blake Freeman. Today’s set was the finals of a huge tournament with the competitors shooting it out in Gears of War 3. It was cool chatting with the cast and crew, particularly the legendary Casper Van Dien and his daughter India Oxenberg. And really, it was just cool hanging out with people that are also in IMDB. I kid, I kid.
I’ll write about my experience with the Van Dien family in another post. That was too cool. For now, enjoy these photos!
