North Korean Propaganda Video Features Call of Duty

This North Korean propaganda video is completely awesome. First off, it’s set to an instrumental version of “We Are the World.” Secondly, it uses imagery from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It sends the lovely message of Korean reunification through the destruction of the United State by nuclear weapons. I’m not sure that’s what USA For Africa had in mind for “We Are the World,” but the song is open to interpretation…more

Paul Giamatti as Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2?

My friend Jennie posted a link to this story about Paul Giamatti being in negotiations for the role of Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While he might seem like an unusual choice for a comic-book movie villain, Giamatti is a huge fan of the Rhino character and has been anxious to play the role for … Continue reading “Paul Giamatti as Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2?”

Coffee Talk #560: Wolverine, X-Men, and Social Media

A few weeks ago, Comixology had a 99-cent sale on Wolverine and the X-Men. In November, I expressed my displeasure with the pussification of Wolverine, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the first eight issues of the series. It’s full of charming characters, great humor, and thrilling action. In a modern twist, the world of Wolverine and the X-Men has been brought to life (or cleverly marketed, depending on your point of view) through social media. Here’s a rundown of why I’ve been enjoying the series and its social-media tie-ins…more

Today’s Poll: Project Shield vs. Razer Edge vs. Steam Box

Although CES 2013 lacked many of technology’s heavy hitters (Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc.), the show’s gaming content was getting lots of buzz. Nvidia’s Project Shield took many gadget geeks by surprise. More details were revealed about Valve’s Steam Box, which many pundits feel has the potential to radically change the gaming landscape. Lastly, Razer’s … Continue reading “Today’s Poll: Project Shield vs. Razer Edge vs. Steam Box”

Four Free iOS Games For the Holidays

Are you looking to buy yourself a Christmas (the commercial holiday, not the religious one) present, but are short on cash? If so, then you’ll be happy to learn that there are four iOS games that are free for a limited time. The first chapter of Walking Dead: The Game is sure to scare you, as … Continue reading “Four Free iOS Games For the Holidays”

Coffee Talk #547: Best Movie of 2012

I purposely delayed the “Best Movie” column until I could see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Now that that’s out of the way, I can safely say that The Avengers was my favorite movie of the year. While I understand that some people prefer The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan’s last Batman movie deviates too much from the comic books that several aspects of it bothered me. The Avengers doesn’t have the ambition of…more

Vaping Diaries #19: Interview With the Owner of The Vapor Spot

In October, I stopped by The Vapor Spot, a vapor bar in Los Angeles. The bar lets vapers try out different hardware and e-liquids. Many people buy their gear and juices online, often relying on message boards and reviews for information. While recommendations can be really useful, nothing beats being able to try out different … Continue reading “Vaping Diaries #19: Interview With the Owner of The Vapor Spot”

GI Joe: Retaliation International Trailer

Here’s the latest trailer for GI Joe: Retaliation. I’m probably going to get a lot heat for this, but I really want to see this movie. Keep in mind that I think Channing Tatum completely sucks (and not in that charming, learning-disabled way like Paul Walker) and I’ve never been big on Bruce Willis. Despite those … Continue reading “GI Joe: Retaliation International Trailer”

Coffee Talk #530: Your Daily Driver Videogames

Today I’d like to talk about games you play every day. Sometimes there are videogames we all go back to, either due to a sense of habit or familiarity. There’s nothing surprising about these games (anymore), but there’s something comfortable about these daily drivers. For some people, these games have become a habit along the lines of eating, bathing, and brushing your teeth.

As for me, for most of the last three years, Civilization Revolution for iPad has been my daily driver. The gameplay is always fun for me, even though I know that every game I play will end with Queen Elizabeth conquering the world. Sure, there have been stretches when Civ was ignored in favor of games like Final Fantasy: Dimensions, but…more

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

The last two weeks have been a little rough, so I’m looking to play simple games that make me feel good. First up is Civilization: Revolution for iPad, because conquering the world over and over again cheers me up. Next up is Outernauts. I’m done with all the quests that have been released, so it’s all about … Continue reading “What Are You Playing This Weekend?”
