Revenge of the Wounded Dragons Brings Chilean Kung-Fu to PSN

Wanako Studios’ Revenge of the Wounded Dragons is being released for PlayStation Network this week. This old-school arcade game serves up some classic beat-’em-up action for your PS3. Really though, I’m just amused that a Chilean developer made a game that’s set in China. That would be like Rumble in the Bronx being filmed in Vancouver…waitaminute.

Here are some bullet points, for those of you interested in more 411 on this PSN title:

Square Enix Counting Down to FFXIII Trailer…Really?!?

FFXIII Trailer countdown

Continuing the ridiculous Japanese publisher trend of counting down to everything known to man, the official Final Fantasy XIII web site is counting down to the final trailer that will be released before the game hits shelves in December. Really Square Enix? Really?!? I’m amped for this game and I’m looking forward to the new trailer, but I don’t need a frickin’ countdown clock for it.

Now please excuse me, I have to pee in 5…4…3…

PlayStation 3 to Get Firefox?

Mozilla Foundation

According to PlayStation Insider, Sony is negotiating with the Mozilla Foundation to build a version of Firefox for the PlayStation 3. The site claimed:

We recently received a tip from a source very close to Sony who says that they have been in talks with Mozilla lately about possibly porting firefox over to the PS3. That said, our source made sure to point out that they were unsure if any deal had actually been reached at this point, but it is great news none the less considering the complaints Sony has been getting about the lack of reliability with their current built in PS3 web browser.

This would be a welcomed addition to the PS3. The current browser isn’t very good — it can’t even render this simple site properly — and Mozilla is the hotness. That said, I’ve never heard of the sourced site or the writer, so I’m taking the rumor with a boulder of salt. Besides, it would make more sense for Sony to build its own browser with open-source code. Whether it’s Mozilla or WebKit, it would be simple for the company.

Btw, do any of you use the PS3’s web browser?

Atlus has released the launch trailer for 3D Dot Game Heroes for PlayStation 3. The game has been the darling of importers and game writers, but I’m not sure how many of you are interested in it. Dragon Age: Origins DLC Announced for Holiday 2009

Dragon Age Cailan

BioWare and Electronic Arts have announced the “Return to Ostagar” DLC for the excellent Dragon Age: Origins. The DLC will cost $4.99 on PlayStation Network, 400 BioWare Points on PC, and 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live. Here’s some info from the press release:

Return to Ostagar, BioWare’s next thread in the Dragon Age: Origins tapestry, summons players to a new quest in which they will return to the fateful battleground in Ostagar where the Grey Wardens were nearly wiped out. Players will discover King Cailan’s top-secret political agenda and go behind enemy lines to revisit a place that many feared had been lost to history.

I’m hoping that I’ll be able to snag Cailan’s armor from his rotting corpse — dude had some pretty slick armor! I’m also curious the learn what his political agenda entailed. Did he want universal health care for every citizen of Ferelden? Was he planning to institute equal opportunity programs for dwarves and elves? Maybe has was going to let the Dalish open up casinos.

This is a day-one download for me. How about you, my fellow DA players?

Sony Updates PSP and PS3 Firmware — Prepare For Comics!!!

Sony has updated the firmware for its PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable products. First up is firmware version 3.10 for PS3. The big deal here is Facebook integration, which I know most of you don’t care about, so I won’t talk about it further. Besides, PSP firmware 6.20 is much more interesting. In addition to adding some new photo and video functionality, it also adds a digital comic book reader!

The PSP is about to get invaded by the heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe. Set to launch in December, some of Marvel’s best stories will be brought to a life on the PSP with a little motion and a lot of voice. From The Astonishing X-Men to Civil War, there are all sorts of great books that will be available for download.

Marvel Civil War

I’m psyched and nervous for these digital comics. On one hand, it’s a new way to experience some great stories. On the other hand, I know it will totally weird me out when characters sound way different from how they do in my head.

What’s your take on digital comics for PSP? Are you anxious to turn your PSP into a cosmic cube? Or will you not have your precious handheld gaming system dirtied up by Skrulls?

Final Fantasy XIII Prologue Getting the Novelization Treatment

FFXIII Zero PromiseFinal Fantasy XIII fever is set to run wild on Japan next month( Hulk Hogan says things run wild “on” and not “in”). Along with the game, its special edition soundtrack, and limited edition Suntory beverage, FFXIII will have a book based on its prologue. Andriasang has reported:

Final Fantasy XIII Episode Zero Promise serves as a prologue to the events of the main FFXIII game. For the past month, Square Enix has been gradually releasing chapters from the novel at the FFXIII official site. The official site is currently up to the fourth chapter of the third volume. Just three more chapters remain.

The print version of the book is hardcover and sells for ¥1,470 at Amazon. Pre-orders are now being accepted at the retailer.

I’m often jealous of all the excellent goodies available to Japanese gamers. This is another instance of my jealousy.

CNet UK Poll Shows 60% Failure Rate for Xbox 360

Xbox 360 RROD smallA recent poll by CNet UK showed that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 failed way more than Nintedo’s Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3. The poll found that “60% of the respondents indicating that their 360 had failed at some point. Sony’s PlayStation 3 broke for 16% of those who took part in the poll, while the Wii stopped working for just 6%.” Here are some other interesting results:

  • 32% said their Xbox 360 console broke twice
  • 19% claimed Xbox 360 broke three or more times
  • The 360 failure rate fell to 34 percent for respondents who had purchased a console since January 2008

It’s important to note that 1,128 people took the poll, with 591 owning a Wii, 562 owning an Xbox 360 and 473 possessing a PS3. The sample is very small and hardly random. While Microsoft has certainly improved the reliability of newer Xbox 360 models, the figures are still pretty severe. Besides, it’s always fun to look at poll results like these.

As some of you know, my Xbox 360 Elite red ringed twice. My other systems have been fine. How about you? Any of your consoles break down?

Today’s Poll: Romantic Interests in Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age LelianaBioWare has always done a good job at integrating romantic storylines in its RPGs. I fondly remember playing through Baldur’s Gate II, once courting the cute and innocent Aerie and once bedding the evil and sexy drow Viconia. Both romances added a bunch of unique dialogue to the game, giving each play through a unique feel.

Dragon Age: Origins has four romances you can pursue. Do you go with Alistair, the foppish templar that’s clearly one of Hugh Grant’s ancestors? Morrigan, the sexy swamp witch? Zevran, the bisexual elf assassin (I love typing that phrase)? On my first play through, I went with Morrigan; the dialogue was fun, but it was too easy. This time around, I had my female warrior get with Leliana, the cute bard with an adorable accent and a mysterious past. Her romance was tougher to trigger and her back story was more interesting than Morrigan’s, so I enjoyed this courtship more. Besides, I’m still immature enough that I get excited by most lesbian interactions.

I wanted to see which Dragon Age romance was your favorite and why. Answer in the poll and leave your reasons in the comments (please)!
