Michaels has been my favorite wrestler of the last 15 years and I love that he’s headlining this year’s hall of fame class…but it seems off. Most of it has to do with the fact that he only stopped wrestling last year. Part of it has to do with Atlanta being a huge NWA/WCW city; I was hoping that this year’s class would focus on old NWA talent, centering around Arn Anderson and Michael “P.S.” Hayes. That said, I’m not going to complain — I’m too big of an HBK mark for that.

Man, I miss watching Michaels on TV. Just seeing him play around with the crowd, dance around like a tool, and deliver an awesome superkick to Alberto Del Rio (video below) reaffirmed that WWE hasn’t been the same for me since he retired. *sigh* Anyway, let me know what you think of Shawn Michaels headlining the WWE hall of fame class of 2011 when you have a moment.

The Chaperone Trailer Starring Triple H

You must watch the trailer for The Chaperone starring WWE Superstar Triple H (Paul Levesque). It’s one of the worst trailers I’ve seen in years. Hunter has been one of the most consistent WWE wrestlers for the last 15 years. As a movie lead, his career is off to a remarkably crappy start.

On a side note, why don’t more WWE fans find it strange that wrestlers that suffer “severe” injuries and disappear for months return with a movie in the pipe?

Today’s Poll: Will The Miz Be Champion at WrestleMania 27?

The Miz (Mike Mizanin) has been WWE Champion for a little over a month. Some of you think he’s “unworthy” of being WWE Champion, yet he’s drawing real heat and getting all sorts of mainstream exposure. Do you think he’ll keep the strap going into WrestleMania XXVII (April 3, 2011)? Or is he merely a transitional champ that’s keeping the title warm for Randy Orton or John Cena? Kindly vote in today’s poll and discuss!

Shawn Michaels Reveals His Future with the WWE

“The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels has posted a video that reveals his longterm plans with World Wrestling Entertainment. While he has made it clear that he has no plans to return as a regular in-ring performer, he appears eager to help the WWE move forward in various ways.

With his close friend Triple H doing more behind-the-scenes work, perhaps Michaels will contribute to the creative side of the business. Or perhaps he’ll take the ambassador role that Ric Flair had before he bailed to TNA. Whatever he does, I’m just happy that HBK will still be working with the company.

WWE Champion The Miz Talks Games on Jimmy Fallon

Here’s an excellent clip of WWE Champion The Miz on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. In addition to talking about wrestling and The Real World, The Miz throws some videogame talk in the mix. Obviously he’s on the cover of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 (best writing ever!!!), but did you know that a young Mike Mizanin competed in the Nintendo World Championship regionals in Cleveland, Ohio?

And yes, one of the reasons I wanted to post this clip is because I know that some of you really hate The Miz. Ha!

Fast Five Trailer Features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson!

The Fast and Furious movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. Paul Walker’s crappy acting mesmerizes me. I love that Vin Diesel is a giant nerd that plays Dungeons & Dragons (and by numerous local accounts is also secretly homosexual). How can this crappy series get even better?!? That’s easy — pit Diesel and Walker against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson!!! That’s exactly what’s going down in Fast Five. That’s sheer brilliance.

Let’s watch the trailer together and discuss!

ESPN Sportsguy WWE Podcast Madness: The Miz vs. Bill Simmons

While it wasn’t as epic (to me, anyway) as when Shawn Michaels appeared on ESPN Bill Simmons’ podcast, WWE Champion The Miz recently appeared on the show. It’s cool (and a little weird) when my worlds collide. As many of you know, I love WWE wrestling and Bill Simmons is my favorite sports columnist. When those two things come together, it’s better than a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Download the podcast when you have a moment and let me know what you think (please)!

Jeff Hardy Shoots on CM Punk in a Diner

Former WWE Superstar and current TNA World Champion Jeff “The Drug Trafficker” Hardy posted a shoot video blasting CM Punk. He rips on Punk’s attitude and straight-edge lifestyle. He also comes across as a drugged-out loser. To make it a family affair, Matt Hardy adds a line about CM Punk’s relationship with Amy Dumas (WWE Lita). Longtime WWE fans will remember that Hardy and Dumas used to date…before she cheated on him with Edge. Holy crap. Pro-wrestling really is a soap opera!

Let me know what you think of the shoot when you have a chance. Do you think Hardy looks lame? Or is he 2010 cool?

Coffee Talk #253: How Will The Miz Do as WWE Champion?

The “Era of Awesome” has begun! The Miz (Mike Mizanin) is your new WWE Champion!!! From MTV’s The Real World to Tough Enough, The Miz has come a long way from reality television.

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, Brad Childress’ next job, the Coava Kone, or your favorite Thanksgiving dish, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

The “Era of Awesome” has begun! The Miz (Mike Mizanin) is your new WWE Champion!!! From MTV’s The Real World to Tough Enough, The Miz has come a long way from reality television. Due to his atypical background, The Miz had to work extra hard to get a top spot in the WWE; some people resented that he didn’t pay his dues in the traditional way and made things difficult for him. Through hard work, continuous improvement in the ring, and extraordinary mic skills, The Miz has made it to the top — WWE Champion and the cover of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011!

How do you think he’ll do as WWE Champion? Will he be a strong enough heel to lead a chasing face all the way to WrestleMania? Or will he be a transitional champion? Will his incredible promos retain their edge now that he’s not chasing the prize? Or will he be better than ever now that he can gloat to the entire WWE roster? I’m digging WWE’s youth movement and hope the company lets The Miz run with the belt for several months. What do you think? How will The Era of Awesome play out?
