Coffee Talk #253: How Will The Miz Do as WWE Champion?

The “Era of Awesome” has begun! The Miz (Mike Mizanin) is your new WWE Champion!!! From MTV’s The Real World to Tough Enough, The Miz has come a long way from reality television.

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, Brad Childress’ next job, the Coava Kone, or your favorite Thanksgiving dish, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

The “Era of Awesome” has begun! The Miz (Mike Mizanin) is your new WWE Champion!!! From MTV’s The Real World to Tough Enough, The Miz has come a long way from reality television. Due to his atypical background, The Miz had to work extra hard to get a top spot in the WWE; some people resented that he didn’t pay his dues in the traditional way and made things difficult for him. Through hard work, continuous improvement in the ring, and extraordinary mic skills, The Miz has made it to the top — WWE Champion and the cover of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011!

How do you think he’ll do as WWE Champion? Will he be a strong enough heel to lead a chasing face all the way to WrestleMania? Or will he be a transitional champion? Will his incredible promos retain their edge now that he’s not chasing the prize? Or will he be better than ever now that he can gloat to the entire WWE roster? I’m digging WWE’s youth movement and hope the company lets The Miz run with the belt for several months. What do you think? How will The Era of Awesome play out?

  1. Remember when Jericho became the 1st Undisputed Champion, and then spent 4 months running from every fight before he essentially got burried by HHH at Wrestlemania? It made him look reeeaaaaally weak, and at the time he was one of the top 5 talents in the business. This is the future I see for The Miz. 2-4 months of looking really weak, and eventually getting buried by HHH.

    1. Hunter seems weary of the road schedule. He seems to have mellowed after having kids. When he returns, it'll definitely be a program with Sheamus. Perhaps Sheamus will win King of the Ring. Then it would be King of the Ring vs. the King of Kings.

    1. I've played it a little bit, but I want to spend a little more time with it before I write my review. I finished the single player sometime around 4am Monday morning and loved it.

      1. I'm taking my sweet time with the solo missions. I only need one more cluster (solved them all myself, those cyphers suck ass). And I'm on sequence 6 I think.

I'm intrigued about how the MP works, but I want to finish the solo missions (side quests included) first.

  2. I want to go back and finish up a few of the side quest things like "the truth" and a couple of the guild missions. But I also want to get the review done in a somewhat timely manner, so I'm putting those on the back burner and spending some time w/ the multiplayer. I'll probably be on later tonight.

      1. i can dig that…i remember back in the day that "the genius" was the champion for like, a week

ive been watching too much MMA, i spose ive conditioned myself to believe that the toughest guy should be champ. I should know by now that the "in the ring" stuff is only about 30 percent of what matters

      2. oh tokz, is that what sean combs is calling himself nowadays?

and no ray, i mean the genius…wrestling was real in the 80s…the repo man actually was a repo guy and “nailz” was really an escaped mental patient

      3. @thundercracker

ha! i have a funny story, well i think it's funny, that was brought up during the weekend.

i was at a bowling alley and it was playing songs. It was gf's ex supv bday party and there were some of her co-workers there and they were playing some old P Diddy song. One of her co-workers was like who is this (this guy is like either mid 40s or late 40s), we were all like this is Puffy, you know Sean Puffy Combs? He's like who? We were like you know he used to be all up in Biggie's videos and stuff. He's like whos Biggie? we were like a rapper that used to feud with Tupac back in the 90s. you know tupac right? he's like yeah i know him. 2 minutes later the light turns on he's like oh, you mean the Notorious BIG! we're like yeah but the guy who used to hang out with him. He's like yeah i don't know him.

  3. i actually tuned in to watch this with MNF being so boring, just in time to catch the Miz win. i loved that all the little kids were mad and shocked. I will start watching Raw more because of the Miz.

    1. Raw is actually pretty good these days. Danielson usually puts on a good match. Sheamus is the future. Morrison has been doing well. DiBiase looks like he’s going to get on a streak again. It’s fantastic seeing the younger guys step up.

      1. i haven't heard you mention anything wrestling related besides your AJ obsession. I'll tune into it even more that "Cena was fired" for not helping Barrett win the belt at Survivor Series.
