Michaels has been my favorite wrestler of the last 15 years and I love that he’s headlining this year’s hall of fame class…but it seems off. Most of it has to do with the fact that he only stopped wrestling last year. Part of it has to do with Atlanta being a huge NWA/WCW city; I was hoping that this year’s class would focus on old NWA talent, centering around Arn Anderson and Michael “P.S.” Hayes. That said, I’m not going to complain — I’m too big of an HBK mark for that.

Man, I miss watching Michaels on TV. Just seeing him play around with the crowd, dance around like a tool, and deliver an awesome superkick to Alberto Del Rio (video below) reaffirmed that WWE hasn’t been the same for me since he retired. *sigh* Anyway, let me know what you think of Shawn Michaels headlining the WWE hall of fame class of 2011 when you have a moment.

  1. HBK is definitely a Hall of Famer, but I think it's to soon. I guess I'm just used to the NFL Hall of Fame rules where you have to be retired for at least 5 years before Hall of Fame eligibility.

    1. Yeah, I wish WWE would make up a rule so that it resembled sports hall of fames. I understand that a lot of it is marketing (Koko B. Ware), but a lot of the people selected have truly made the wrestling business — not just WWE — bigger and better.

    1. Love that signing! The company has been doing better with the Divas for the last two months. The ladies that can actually wrestle — Beth Phoenix, Nattie Neidhart, etc. — have been getting pushed. One of the Bellas has improved. Kong would be fantastic because she can wrestle and doesn't look like the other girls.

      1. Agree, but my fear is that they'll have Awesome Kong jobbing to the talentless bimbos in an attempt to get them over. How can Awesome Kong get pinned by Maryse?

  2. I was thinking the same thing as you Rpad. it seems weird to have him headline the WWE HOF when it's being held on what was considered "enemy ground" but vince always like to rub things in his rivals' face and it doesn't surprise me.

    @RROD

    you would think that the WWE would adopt something like that but then you'd actually have to consider them a real sport and also it really doesn't exist. It's not like they have a museum somewhere that you can go to like the NFL, MLB and NBA one.

  3. HBK definitely belongs But I've got to agree with RROD, it's too soon after his "retirement." I mean, I got it when they put in Eddie Guererro right after he died. But HBK could still come back and wrestle if he wanted. It seems like the HoF should be reserved for guys who are really done and not guys who "might" be done.

      1. They've waived the waiting periods in hockey for guys like Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky. And then Lemieux came back. I thought it was really weird…..

      2. I've been fishing where alligators are about 3 feet from my boat, I'm not worried about some guys hating on me about hockey lol.

        Actually NOLA had a minor league hockey team at one time. The Brass. They played at the state palace theater. I believe they closed shop when they were asked to adjust their times because the State Palace wanted to host some raves.

      3. Hockey is most definitely more popular in the NorthEast and MidWest than anywhere else in the country. Places like Tampa and Phoenix really aren't hockey towns, but they have hockey teams. It's really poor decision making by the NHL and Gary Bettmen, who I'm certain David Stern recommended to be the NHL Owners to be the Commissioner simply so he could ruin the sport from within to help out the NBA.

      4. I think Hockey is more of a Canadian sport if anything. Canadians are weird because the Basketball HOF didn't do that for Michael Jordan.

  4. I just re-watched Hitman Hart : Wrestling with Shadows over the weekend and damn I forgot how grimy wrestling is.
