What Are You Playing This Weekend?

Now that my AT&T U-Verse Internet and television service is up and running, it’s time to fix up my consoles and games. My consoles have been ready to go, just waiting for a solid Internet connection. My games are in boxes in the living room. I didn’t want to unpack them until the wiring was all done. As expected, I had to move the shelves several times and that would have been a pain in the ass with hundreds of games and movies on them. After the dust clears, I’m going to try to play some Fuse for PlayStation 3, but just a little bit. E3 2013 festivities start on Sunday. I’m excited for the show and looking forward to catching up with old videogame friends.

This Week’s Videogame Releases

The week before E3 is usually a dull one in terms of videogame releases. Still, there are few games that you should keep an eye on. Capcom’s Remember Me has been getting some buzz. This stealth-action game takes place in a futuristic version of Paris and uses some interesting sci-fi concepts. If you’ve missed out on Skyrim then you should consider picking up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition, which has all the bells and whistles. Lastly, Marvel Heroes launches this week. As a comic-book nerd, I’m intrigued by this superhero MMO and wondering if any of you are interested in a spandex adventure (in the game, not in real life).

Any of you picking up new games this week?

Double Fine’s Massive Chalice on Kickstarter

Double Fine is going to the Kickstarter well once again for a turn-based strategy game called Massive Chalice. The game uses tactical-RPG gameplay in a sword-and-sorcery setting. The Kickstarter rewards include a t-shirt, a poster, your very own in-game house name, participation in a brainstorming session at Double Fine HQ, and more. As of this writing, the Double Fine is on the cusp of reaching its $725,000 goal with 24 days to go. Check out an excerpt from the official description, as well as the pitch video below Continue reading “Double Fine’s Massive Chalice on Kickstarter”

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

As most of you know, I’ve been spending the last few weeks playing The Moving Game, which is something you need to play every now and then, but also utter crap. Thankfully, I’m done with that…experience. Now I’m playing the slightly better Unpacking Game. To keep myself somewhat sane, I’ve shoved all the non-essential boxes into the closet of my home office/filming space. Of course there will be a lovely surprise when I discover that an important box is tucked away in the corner and I have to dig through 18 boxes in order to find it. Yeah, this game isn’t the best.

Hopefully you can regale with your exponentially more entertaining exploits (E3?). What’s on your weekend playlist?

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

My consoles are all packed up, waiting for the (three-block) journey to their new home. That means it’ll be an iOS gaming weekend for me. First up is Wizard Ops Tactics. A pal at Autodesk brought this game to my attention and I’m super happy that she did. The game is a tactical RPG with combat that’s similar to Final Fantasy Tactics (my all-time favorite) and Ogre Battle. Nerd combat on isometric grids is totally my thing. As I mentioned earlier in the week, my friend Scott Foe has a new game called Douche Defender. I’m going to give his naughtily-named creation a spin this weekend as well.

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

Okay. My heel pain has been downgraded to heel soreness. That nasty surprise attack from food poisoning has been vanquished. I still have some remnants of a cold, but it’s not as bad as it was earlier in the week. That means it’s time to play Packing II! Yeah, moving a few weeks before E3 2013…isn’t the best, but it’s time to leave lovely Wilshire Vermont Station and the silly rent hikes. Despite my weakened condition, I’ve managed to get a lot done. Most of my games and CDs have been packed. I’m going to trade in a bunch of DVDs, simply so they won’t take up space in my new apartment. I’m going to move my consoles, coffee gear, and vaping gear myself (priorities). Packing clothes and swag is going to be this weekend’s challenge. The kitchen stuff…I’ll leave that to the movers. Doesn’t this sound like a fun game?

Sanctum 2 Interview With Executive Producer Ted Lange

Here’s an interview with Reverb Publishing executive producer Ted Lange on Sanctum 2. The game was developed by Coffee Stain Studios for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It combines tower-defense strategy and first-person shooter action. Lange talks about improvements made over the original Steam-only game, the different types of levels, the various characters and classes, and more. Check out the interview and let me know if Sanctum 2 is something that interests you!

On a side note, I think this is the first videogame interview I’ve done that incorporates vaping. I’ve known Ted for a few years (I think we first met when he was working on the first Guitar Hero games) and I’m thrilled that he has made the switch from smoking to vaping.

Rihanna Buys Razer Naga Hex, Chris Brown Jokes Wanted

Pop superstar Rihanna was recently spotted buying a Razer Naga Hex Wraith Red gaming mouse and Razer promptly sent out a press blast on the purchase. Here’s a clip:

Rihanna, the undisputed queen of pop, has set her sights on getting a leg up in hardcore gaming with Razer’s best-in-class Naga Hex Wraith Red edition gaming mouse. The pop songstress was spotted picking up the hardcore gaming mouse with her younger brother in a NYC BestBuy over the weekend.

Being the inventive lot that you are, I know you guys and gals have some inappropriate Chris Brown jokes in you. It’s not that I want to make light of the heinous crimes he committed against the Barbadian beauty, but this is a fine opportunity to point out what a horrid piece of crap the he is. Fire away (please)!

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

This weekend, I’ll be playing two games that are incompatible with each other. First up is one of the worst games of all time — The Packing Game. As some of you know, I’m moving at the end of the month. In order to save some cash, I’m going to try to pack as many boxes as possible. (I’ll let the professionals handle the kitchen and furniture though.) My apartment currently looks like one of the ugliest games of fort ever played…or maybe part of a level in a stealth-action game.

Interfering with The Packing Game is the Heel Injury game. Yeah, I hurt myself last night and my heel is swollen. I’m alternating hobbling around and icing it. Hopefully it calms down enough so that I can get some packing done this weekend.

So yeah, my weekend playlist sucks. Hopefully yours doesn’t! What games are you playing this weekend?

Double Fine Humble Bundle: Psychonauts, Stacking, More

The latest Humble Bundle features Double Fine games Costume Quest, Psychonauts, and Stacking. If you pay above the average price (currently $7.90), Brutal Legend is added to the mix. There are additional rewards at the $35 and $70 levels. If you’ve missed out on these great Double Fine games then this is a fantastic opportunity to give them a whirl, support an excellent developer, and contribute to a charity.

For those of you not familiar with Humble Bundle, DRM-free games are offered on a pay-what-you-want basis. Most bundles, including this one, are compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. In a novel twist, you get to decide who gets your money; you can split up your bill between the developer, charities, or Humble Bundle, Inc.

As a Double Fine mark, of course I think that all of you should pick up this Humble Bundle. If you do, please leave a note in the comments section and let me know what you think of the games.
