Although Radio Shack’s effort to change its image by renaming some of its stores to The Shack is completely lame, its commercial featuring Biz Markie is pretty cool. Using a riff from his song “Just a Friend” and playing up the “Oh Snap!” lyric makes for a catchy and nostalgic spot.
Let me know what you think of the commercial when you get a chance. “Oh baby youuuuuuuuuu got what I need!”
Square Enix showed off the limited edition Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep PlayStation Portable at its Jump Festa fan event in Tokyo. It looks pretty sweet (though not as hot as the FFXIII PS3!). Andriasang snapped a few pictures of this precious PSP. Check ’em out!
– Last week was another strong one for RPad.tv. Thanks to everyone for reading and leaving comments! It’s been two months and a few days since the site started. Sometimes it feels longer and even though I’m impatient with some of the things I want to do for the site, if I take a step back and give it some perspective, I’m proud of what it has become. So thank you!
– I’m messing around with the layout this week. Last time I asked about this issue, opinions were split on the matter. Let’s see how it goes. If it helps numbers, I’ll leave it. If the numbers are about the same and it bothers you, I’ll switch back to the old layout. Either way, let me know what you think.
– If you haven’t finished your holiday shopping, please consider buying something from Amazon.com through my site links. You can find gateways to Amazon in the right sidebar and in each individual story. I’m experimenting with a new ad vendor in some of the spots where the Amazon links used to be. I’m still trying to get into bigger ad networks, but let’s see how this does.
– I’m flying off to New York on Thursday to see my family for a few weeks. I’ll keep serving up content, but there will probably be a few slow days. My family has excursions to Manhattan and Atlantic City planned. I’ll bring my laptop and try to post some stories, but family time comes first.
– Again, thank you all for supporting the site by reading articles and leaving comments!
Blizzard is undeniably one of the best and most successful developers of PC games, with huge franchises like World or Warcraft and StarCraft. Gamers that play exclusively on consoles are missing out on Blizzard’s magic…but that will change one day. In an interview with Gamasutra, two company directors explained why Blizzard focuses on PC games and promised that it will eventually return to console gaming. Senior director Samwise Didier said:
We’re working on PC because it’s familiar to us and it’s relatively easy and it’s not changing formats every other year and there aren’t three different versions. Console, we have to worry about [those things].
The promise to return to consoles was made by production director J. Allen Brack, who said:
Here’s a clip of Chris Jericho — the best in the world at what he does — on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Jericho plugged WWE’s Tribute to the Troops event and had the good taste to make a Saved by the Bell joke. Check it out!
A photo of Jericho as The Phoenix is shown. I’ve never seen that guise before…it’s just…look for it, trust me. He also admits that the band Nelson inspired his early look. Wow.
Sony Computer Entertainment of America product marketing manager Jefferson Dong (who I want to call The Donger, but probably shouldn’t) has detailed the pre-order bonus for Heavy Rain. Instead of some stupid accessory or dumb goggles, gamers that pre-order Heavy Rain will get more gameplay in the form of Heavy Rain: Chronicle One — The Taxidermist. The Donger Dong dropped the 411:
What exactly are The Heavy Rain Chronicles? Each Chronicle will offer unique, stand-alone, playable short stories featuring one of Heavy Rain’s main characters, and a storyline taking place either before or after Heavy Rain’s original narrative. Similar to Heavy Rain, each episode will offer a unique journey and different outcomes based on the players’ decisions and actions.
To me, additional content is way more of an incentive to pre-order than some stupid statue that will just collect dust in my living room. Heavy Rain is already #2 on my most wanted games of 2010 list and I’m totally down with The Heavy Rain Chronicles. Anything that adds to the characters, world, and story of what should be an outstanding game is awesome. In fact, I might go downstairs to GameStop and pre-order it now!
This YouTube video called “Viva la Chokehold” is totally funny, but it also shows how preposterous the movement is. By mixing in images of people waiting in lines for an iPhone with poignant pictures of civil rights struggles, the video entertains and puts things in the proper perspective. Yes, AT&T does suck for millions of people, but mobile phones are a luxury. There are people all over the world without homes, food, and basic human rights. Whether you find the video funny or thought provoking, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
I’ll be flying to New York for the holidays on Thursday, so this will be my last weekend with my home consoles in 2009. I recently completed my fifth run in Dragon Age: Origins (city elf rogue named Keebler, *snicker*) and I’m contemplating giving it another go. Still, I feel like I should play something else. Downloading Final Fantasy VIII is awfully tempting, but I think I’ll save that for my PSP in New York. What other games of mine need more attention?
Batman: Arkham Asylum and Uncharted 2 are two titles that I started, played for a few hours, acknowledged as great, and never picked up again. I know I’ll get back to both eventually, but this weekend seems as good a time as any. I’ve been meaning to play more Magna Carta, which is an under-the-radar game RPG fans should look at. I’m also tempted to dust off Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 to honor the world’s most famous adulterer. Too bad there isn’t a DLC minigame that requires you to drive around while hopped up on pain killers trying to avoid your hot Swedish wife.
