It’s a pretty dry week at retail. Thankfully, there are a pair of digital downloads that are worthy of your attention. First up is Dyad for PlayStation 3. This puzzle-racer is full of slick visuals and soothing sounds. I played some over the weekend and love it so far. Next up is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD. It’s the awesome Tony Hawk gameplay and classic levels, but with Unreal Engine 3 graphics.
At Comic-Con 2012, Activision revealed that it’s set to publish a Deadpool game developed by High Moon Studios. Now the trailer is here! I love the look and tone of the trailer. It absolutely captures the feel of Marvel’s lovable merc with a mouth. The wise cracks, the dueling inner monologue, the love of boobies, etc. are brilliant.
My one wish is that the game has several duct tape jokes…because Deadpool loves duct tape. He loves the way it tapes. He loves the sound it makes. He loves saying it. Duct tape. Duct tape. Duct tape. Duct tape. Duct tape. Duct tape.

Sega has announced that NiGHTS Into Dreams will be getting the HD treatment 16 years after its original release for the Sega Saturn. The game will be available this Fall as a digital download for PlayStation Network, Windows PC, and Xbox Live Arcade. According to Sega’s blog:
This new version will bring Nightopia to vivid life with improved HD graphics and a 16:9 aspect ratio, as well as added support for leaderboards, trophies, and achievements. It will also feature an optional Saturn Mode that will let players experience the game with the original graphics intact.
NiGHTS is a beloved platformer among hardcore gamers and one of the Saturn’s shining moments. I’m thrilled that it’s making a return, but I wonder if the game will resonate with younger gamers.
It’s a pretty dim week for videogame releases. Thankfully, Square Enix’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasyis here to brighten things up! I’ve been high on this game since it was first announced in Japan and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Aside from that, Test Drive: Ferrari Legends brings back one of the oldest series in racing games. Spelunky for XBLA is also getting a lot of buzz from game critics.
Square Enix has confirmed that Camilla Luddington will be playing Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider game. The British actress is known for (naked) roles in Californication and True Blood. Naturally, this is the perfect time to enjoy some pictures of Ms. Luddington. For the record, it was somewhat difficult to find photos of her with her clothes on. This “research” was done all for you!
There are a bunch of fun games coming out this week, but I wanted to kick things off with one of my E3 2012 surprises that was released last week. I’m talking about Brave, the game based on the Pixar movie. I had no expectations for this game and was delighted to find an action-RPG that reminded me a lot of the old Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance games. I kind of want to see the movie, but I really want to play the game. Speaking of movie-games, The Amazing Spider-Man is out this week for your web-slinging pleasure. If military shooters are more your thing then you’ll want to check out Spec Ops: The Line. Do you want a game with the ugliest Olympic logo in history? If so then you must buy London 2012. Last, but not least, is a quirky-cute Japanese RPG called Record of the Agarest War 2.
I totally forgot to post this link before E3 2012. Oops. If you have time, please check out my Minecraft (XBLA) review for Machinima.com. The game can be a blast if you’re into Minecraft’s particular type of wash-rinse-repeat gameplay. It’s truly one of those “you get what you put into it” games. Now here’s the part where I quote myself (several years later, it’s still funny to me):
Although it lacks some of the features and complexity of the PC version, the Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft stands up on its own. The addictive core gameplay of hunting, gathering, and building is intact, with streamlined crafting and multiplayer that make the console version unique. It’s definitely not a game for people with short attention spans or addictions to hyper-violence. If you have the patience and enjoying creating more than destroying then Minecraft is one of the most gratifying downloadable games you can buy for Xbox 360.
So yeah! Please check out the review and leave a comment if you have the time.
A few weeks ago on Google+ Messenger, I asked a few of you if you had any interest in building an RPad.TV Minecraft world. You still down?
One of my E3 2012 surprises was NBA Baller Beats. This unique music-rhythm game for Xbox 360 Kinect is controlled with a basketball. Some of my colleagues thought it was a clever title, while others thought it was a bit silly. Personally, I love the idea of a DDR-type game controlled with a basketball. Check out the video below to get more info on NBA Baller Beats and see actual people playing it. When you’re done seeing the game in action, please let me know if this is something you’d be interested in playing.
The chilling frights and visceral action of Doom III are being taken to a new level in Doom III BFG Edition. This bundle packs the first three Doom games, 3D content, new levels, and more. RPad.TV’s Justin Leeper gets the scoop from Bethesda’s David Clayman in this video interview. Find out what’s new, what’s improved, and what’s included in Doom III BFG Edition.
Double Dragon Neon is a fun downloadable game set for a Summer 2012 release on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Featuring an updated version of the classic Double Dragon cooperative play — dubbed bro-op — this game is a love letter to the original arcade version and the ’80s in general. RPad.TV’s Justin Leeper caught up with Majesco’s Onix Alicea to learn more about Double Dragon Neon, as well as to exchange high-fives, chest bumps, and other bromantic gestures.
