I’m going to be finishing up The 3rd Birthday for a Machinima.com review this weekend. I want to tell you lots and lots about the game…but I have to wait until the review posts. To break things up, I’ll take some Dragon Age II breaks. My fourth game is underway and I’m still loving it. This time around I’m going for a perfect rogue that can dole out damage by the tens of thousands.

In a sad bit of news, Capcom has cancelled Mega Man Universe. A couple of you showed interest in the game. I was intrigued too. I was really looking forward to the blend of classic Mega Man gameplay and creative user-made levels. I was thinking that Mega Man Universe would feel like a more familiar version of the excellent LittleBigPlanet. Sadly, a potentially cool game has been killed.

To prepare for the launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has added several PlayStation games to Google’s Android Market. Titles include Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, Jumping Flash, MediEvil, and Syphon Filter.
Hopefully Sony will flood Android Market with quality games. The Android platform is a joke compared to iOS in terms of gaming. Great PlayStation games for Android will make the joke a little less funny.

Are you ready to take on Mike Tyson in a videogame again? If you answered yes then you’ll want to check out Mike Tyson: Main Event for iOS. The game is like a simplified version of Punch-Out!! While I doubt it will be as engaging for a long period of time, it looks great for a quick fix and fighting a videogame version of Mike Tyson is always fun.
Also, check out the commercial for the game (posted above). It’s great to see that “Iron” Mike is in good shape again. I also love him in comedic bits. He’s fun in this commercial, though not quite as hilarious as when he made his Oscar picks or danced to Bobby Brown music.
It’s a pretty huge week in the videogame business. The Nintendo 3DS launched and is selling briskly, though it’s not nearly as hard to find as the Nintendo Wii was during launch week. Wrestling fans that want to set up dream matches pitting current WWE Superstars against old-school wrestlers will want to pick up WWE All Stars. As much as I’ll enjoy the gameplay, I think my favorite part will be hearing Jim Ross’ commentary. Racing fans have two styles of automotive action to choose from in Shift 2 and NASCAR The Game 2011. If you prefer motorcycles over cars then you might dig MotoGP 10/11. Fans of adulterers and golf will have a blast with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters. Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky looks like a great old-school RPG.
Last, but not least, is a PSP game that I’m incredibly psyched for: The 3rd Birthday. As a Parasite Eve fan, I’m really looking forward to Aya Brea’s next adventure.

I was surprised to find that several Dragon Age II players are bothered by the homosexual romance options in the game — particularly the male romances. Some players are uncomfortable with their male Hawke being courted by Anders and Fenris. Some players wish that there was an option to turn off homosexual romances. I found these sentiments a bit backwards and homophobic, but I”m trying to understand why these gamers feel the way that they do.
I think it’s great that gamers have the option for their male Hawke to have a relationship with a whiny male apostate like Anders. I think it’s wonderful that players can have their female Hawke fall in love with a filthy pirate wench like Isabela. If players rather have a heterosexual relationship, those options are there too, of course. This is a role-playing game and I appreciate the diversity of romantic roles Dragon Age II offers. I don’t understand why some gamers have a problem with being hit on by a character of the same sex. If that’s not what you want then respond accordingly, no?

Last night a friend totally stumped me when he asked, “What do you think the funniest game ever is?” Hours later, I’m still not sure of my answer. I immediately thought of several Tim Schafer games, as well as Conker’s Bad Fur Day. Erik Wolpaw’s work on Portal was some of the funniest writing ever in a videogame. Right now I’m leaning towards Portal…but I’m still not sure.
That’s where you come in! What are some of the funniest games you’ve played?
My third run of Dragon Age II is almost done and I plan on playing the game one more time (at least). I’m really digging the background banter between my companion characters. Mixing and matching allies leads to different conversations. I’m amazed by the sheer amount of dialogue and impressed that there’s always something new that cracks me up.
I’m missing DC Universe Online a bit. Hopefully my superhero powers aren’t too rusty when I jump back into the game. Perhaps I’ll give it a quick whirl this weekend before taking up the cowl in earnest next weekend.
Oh, I almost forgot that I have a quick work trip this weekend. I’ll definitely be playing Tactics Ogre in the friendly skies.

Here’s my interview with Insomniac Games president & CEO Ted Price. My favorite part was when he explained why he wanted the original Ratchet & Clank referred to as a “character action game” instead of a platformer. Other topics include the company’s work on the Xbox 360, the socialization of gaming, and Insomniac’s 2011 lineup.
Confession: I really sucked in this interview. Thankfully Ted saved it with his great answers. As you can see, I wasn’t nearly as comfortable as I was during my Mike “Busta” Capps interview. I’ve known Ted for a long time and he’s a fantastic guy, but for some reason I kept thinking, “Gee, Ted Price sure is smart, successful, and handsome,” during the interview. As nice as he is, he can also be unnervingly awesome. Ha!
