As promised, here are a bunch of videos from Activision’s crazy E3 2010 party. They were all taken on my HTC Evo 4G, so the quality isn’t the best. They’re quick and fun clips that’ll give you an idea of what last night was like. In the immortal words of Booker T, “Can you dig it, sucka?!?”

E3 2010 Party Pics: Activision Takes Over the Staples Center
Activision threw one of the most ridiculous E3 parties I’ve ever been to. First off, the company held it at the Staples Center — you know…that place where the Celtics are going to beat the Lakers later today. Secondly, the sheer amount of talent that performed was frickin’ crazy! Kicking things off DJ Hero 2 style were Z-Trip, deadmau5, and David Guetta. Usher was next with his smooth voice and slick dancing (and numerous backup dancers).
Tony Hawk was supposed to perform, but there were issues with the half-pipe, so he just skated by and talked about Tony Hawk: Shred (not Tony Hawk: Shrek). The highlight of the night for me was a two-song set by Jane’s Addiction. Maynard James Keenan (Tool and A Perfect Circle) performed Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” with a choir. Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell totally rocked a somber version of “Black Hole Sun” with an orchestra. A dancer performed on a pole that was at least 50 feet high! N.E.R.D. had a great set that promoted True Crime: Hong Kong. This was followed by Rhea, a protege of Pharell Williams.
Eminem closed out the show with a handful of songs, accompanied by Travis Barker (Blink-182) on drums and joined by Rhianna for a song. Think about all the talent that performed! Incredible, hey? Most of my friends were at a Capcom party and I missed them, but this Activision party is something I’ll remember forever. (I do have other thoughts on this spectacle as a verbal entertainer and someone thinking about ATVI shareholders…but that’s a story for later.) Enjoy these pics and stay tuned for some videos!
Look kids! It’s deadmau5!!!
Usher puts on such a great show. He’s a true “performer”.
I totally marked out for Dave Navarro during this excellent set by Jane’s Addiction.
Watching this woman climb a 50-foot poll was entertaining and scary at the same time.
Eminem closed the show with authority.
Tetsuya Mizuguchi Makes Motion Controls Cool with Child of Eden
Q Entertainment’s Child of Eden is — by far — the coolest motion control game I’ve seen for PlayStation Move and Xbox Kinect. The game is being published by Ubi Soft and it pretty much looks like Rez with motion controls. There’s probably more to it than that, but Rez with motion controls sounds awesome to me. As most of you know, I’m a total mark for Q’s Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Of course it would take someone like him to make motion controls cool.
Xbox 360 Kinect Listed at $149.99 on GameStop: Too Much?
GameStop has listed Kinect for Xbox 360 at $149.99. This is a pre-order price and subject to change. Let’s forget about that for a second and pretend this is the “real” price. Is it too much for this peripheral? Considering you can buy a Wii for just a bit more money, it seems kind of steep. I’m going to have to give it more thought, buy my initial reaction is that Microsoft better price this thing lower or it’s going to flop.
Today’s Poll: Will You Buy an Xbox 360 “Slim”?
Microsoft unveiled a new version of the Xbox 360 with a 250GB hard drive and WiFi. The design is smaller, uses less power, and is allegedly quieter than its forerunners. The design is angular and totally reminds me of Alienware desktop computers. It looks like a pretty sweet machine, but will you buy one this year? Take the poll and let me know (please)!

Microsoft E3 2010 Press Conference: What Did You Think?!?
Thanks to everyone that joined me for my Microsoft E3 2010 press conference live blog. Now that the presser is over, I want to get your thoughts on MS’ showing. As for me, I was mostly bored with the content. Aside from Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Gears of War 3, I didn’t see much that was fun or compelling. Et vous?
Microsoft (Xbox) E3 2010 Press Conference Live Blog
After kicking off its E3 2010 press activities with an extraordinarily lame event (by most accounts), Microsoft hopes for a second wind with its Monday morning press conference. While Kinect (Project Natal) was the focus last night, look for big news on games, the evolution of Xbox Live, and more. Rumors are swirling about an Xbox 360 “Slim” model and I’m personally hoping for some cool news on Windows Phone 7 connectivity with Live. How’s it all going to shake down? Let’s find out together as I live blog the hell out of this presser!
E3 2010 Party Pics: B4 by 47 Communications
47 Communications’ B4 party is truly the best way to kick off E3. It’s a very chill event that serves as the calm before the storm (you know, when E3 explodes in all our faces). The party is kind of like the first day of summer camp. Everyone is just getting in and you get to catch up with old friends that you haven’t seen in a long time. It’s also unique for E3 since this is the one time during the week when you’re allowed to get drunk in the daytime. Enjoy my party pics!
I’ve know three of these people for 10+ years. I feel old….
Overhead shot!
My favorite lady at the party — the tavern wench!
IGN Dana and @Gamer Wil are awesome people.
Three people that left games journalism. Thankfully Andy Eddy was there to keep it real!
Another random crowd shot.
AOL Libe and PR goddess Andrea made sure it wasn’t a total sausage fest.
Giant Bomb Jeff and Giant Bomb Brad are super cool. Ask him!!!
Ignition Shane, Wired Chris, and super freelancer Gus kept cool inside. Very smart.
Super legend Perrin, VentureBeat Dean, and G4 Abbie.
Universal Pete was paying of Marvel Chris for unknown reasons.
Yeah, most of these parties are comprised of nerdy guys standing around and talking about geek stuff. In other words, they’re cool. :P
Project Natal Officially Named Xbox “Kinect”
I left a perfectly good party and am skipping on another potentially fun party to make sure that you know that the motion-control device formally known as Project Natal has been officially named Xbox Kinect. I wasn’t invited to tonight’s press event (due to lameness) and am happy I wasn’t. Almost all my developer and journalist friends thought it was incredible lame. That said, the proof is in the pudding and I want to see Kinect in action before I make any judgements.
For now, what do you think of the name? Hip or lame?
Sunday Housekeeping: Pre-E3 Edition
It’s E3 week! Can you feel the love tonight?!? (Lion King lines Raymond? Seriously?!?) I’m off to my first E3 party in a few hours, but wanted to give you a heads up on my plans for the week. It’ll be so much fun talking about the show with you guys and dolls.
– I’m going to be sorta kinda live blogging the three major press conferences (Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony). The first one kicks off tomorrow and I’ll be using Cover It Live. Hopefully it will work for most of you.
– The reason I said that I’m “sorta kinda” live blogging the pressers is that I’ll have to take a few chunks of time out of each one to write stories for Shack News. That’s right, Brian Leahy and I will be reunited for one week only! My excellent friend Garnett Lee will be steering the ship for Shack. I’m looking forward to working with these cats. If you have time, please register so you can comment on my Shack News stories (using a variation of “RPadtv” in your username would be nice, free advertising!).
– Since I’ll be busy with stories for Shack throughout the week, I’m not going to be able to post too many stories here. I am going to link to everything I write for Shack and will post lots of pictures for discussion. I’ll have my Evo 4G and laptop with me, so I’ll be commenting as much as I can.
– The site’s Alexa ranking is on the verge of cracking the top 100,000. Thanks for all your support!!! I you haven’t downloaded the Alexa toolbar, please do. Every visit helps. Thanks to you, I’m beating or competing with loads of established sites. Considering that the site hasn’t been up for a year and I’m just one guy, the results are incredible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
