I left a perfectly good party and am skipping on another potentially fun party to make sure that you know that the motion-control device formally known as Project Natal has been officially named Xbox Kinect. I wasn’t invited to tonight’s press event (due to lameness) and am happy I wasn’t. Almost all my developer and journalist friends thought it was incredible lame. That said, the proof is in the pudding and I want to see Kinect in action before I make any judgements.
For now, what do you think of the name? Hip or lame?
Lame, wave was a better name I think.
I thought Natal was a better name. Kinect is a bit too long for a clever acronym. Feel free to try of course!

The acronyms were MUCH easier for WAVE.
I think this is a case of somebody in a higher up position coming up with the idea and no one who was under them wanted to lose their job so they just kept their mouths shut…at least that's where my conspiracy theory lies for the moment.
I was getting to like wave better, but I don't really feel shocked to find out that they chose a lame name for this.

I am not a fan of the Kin either. I am hoping the theories I have heard about the Kin just being a test for the Win Mobile 7. Unfortunately I do not think that Kinect is a test for anything else, so it has no excuse for why it's name sucks.

I thought so too but choking of a ring announcer sounds like a good reason especially with their pg 13 shows. If you ever see a replay of the TNA ppv check out the Jay Lethal vs AJ Styles match, i thought it was pretty good but i was disappointed that Lethal lost his Macho Man gimmick.

I almost went home to watch the MS press conference. Good thing I didn't I only planned on leaving for the exact amount of time needed to watch it, but since MS can't even get an exact time it doesn't matter. Wonder why the 30 minute delay?
Kinect, Natal, Move – they're all kinda crappy names if you ask me. Though I think Natal was a pretty poor choice. I always pronounced Natal the other way to make fun of the name. So at least Kinect doesn't have that.
Thank god Playstation and Xbox are pretty cool names. In fact, Wii wasn't half bad either.

I was starting to like it being called MS Wave. It seemed very fitting. I believe Kinect is going to confuse a lot of people (I keep wanting to call it Kinetic) . PS Move seemed bad to me at first but then I felt it was appropriate given what they were wanting to do with it, right up until I say 'The Shoot' and the controller moves so little its crazy. Wiimote was the dumbest name ever to me when it came out and was dubbed as such. But now I like the term wiimote.

@slicky – I think Wave would have been a good choice. But considering Sony just named theirs Move not long ago the name would have been suspiciously close.
