According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Evans has signed to play Captain America in the upcoming Captain America and Avengers movies. Moviegoers will remember Evans as the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies. Evans is will have to ditch the “Flame on!” catchphrase for the “Avengers assemble!” battle cry.
I’m not sold on Evans’ casting just yet. He’s 27, which is slightly too young to play the patriarch of the Marvel Universe. Yes, he has the Super Soldier Serum maintaining his youth, but Cap is a man out of time from World War II. Evans was great as the Human Torch, bringing out the character’s cockiness and recklessness. Can he play someone that’s supposed to be a little grizzled, naive to the modern world, a father figure to other Marvel heroes, and totally kick-ass? I’m not so sure.

They need someone who has that old school flare about them. The guy is from the WW2 era. Need someone bigger.

Wow! Chris Evans! I'm not sure what to say or think. He did a great job as the torch, i just think the Fantastic 4 movies were horrible. It's hard to picture him as Captain America. I hope Marvel/Disney or whomever doesn't f**k up one of my favorite Marvel characters.
Now that I've thought about it, I don't like it. I can't see this kid as Cap.

I actually worked at one a few months ago and it closed. So they moved me to a new one. The one I am at now is like the busiest store in our district. So I should be straight. At least until Blockbuster decides on no more stores. The market is just not at the store level anymore. Hopefully these new lawsuits, where Blockbuster is the only place you can rent movies for the first month, will help the stores stay around a little longer.
Crisis on Two Earths is pretty good btw.
I'm not sold on this yet either. But I do want to point out that from a historical perspective that most of the soldiers who fought in WWII were 18 or younger. Kids lied on their registrations to go fight overseas. You had kids as young as 14 trying to shoots some Nazis and Japanese. So a 27 year old would actually have been someone who had been around a bit. Any older, and he would of had to be an officer i.e. not a candidate for the super soldier experiment.

To get a guy in his early- to mid-20s is only thinking about where the character began, not what he ultimately needs to become.”

I was one of the people who actually liked the first Punisher movie, Anyway I always thought if Tom Jane was a little taller I could see him as Cap. I do find it stupid however that they would put someone who plays another hero to play such an important role as Cap. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope for the best.
