Ed Smashed: Edward Norton Out as Hulk in Avengers Movie

The Avengers movie will have one last star as Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as the Incredible Hulk. In a scathing statement, Marvel Studios president of production Ken Feige said:

Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H., Chris E., Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.

Given Norton’s creative issues with the last Hulk movie, this is hardly surprising. For all of his amazing talent, Norton can be a giant pain in the ass to deal with. The good news is that Chris Evans has one less incredibly talented actor to upstage him.

How do you feel about Norton being booted as the Hulk? Any suggestions for a replacement?

    haha. two for one special.

Norton did an okay job playing Banner. I think the writing was much better on the Incredible Hulk than on the Hulk. Maybe they should just have the Hulk in full Hulk mode with voice over being done by someone else. it's rare to see the Hulk in non-Hulk mode in Avengers comics.

And if you say banner with somewhat of an accent, its sounds just like bana.

  3. I don't know who should play Dr. Banner, but I think Lou Ferrigno should be the Hulk. No CGI, no special effects, just Lou in green make-up, hair, contact lenses, and purple torn pants.

  4. @N8R Funny story from Comic-Con (2004, I think). I was hanging out at the Marvel booth waiting to interview Ian McKellan. There were these two guys with me and I didn't know who they were. Half an hour into a really fun chat, I learned they were Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto, the director and producer of the X-Men movies. One fanboy was bugging them about Iron Man and Singer said, "Yeah, everyone is talking about Tom Cruise, but I want to go with this unknown — Raymond Padilla. He's an up-and-coming actor and I think he'll shock the crowd." The fanboy posted it on his site that night. Ha!

  5. @N8R I don't know about that one. While I did have a stretch where I was a pretty outstanding drunk, RDJ's experience with substance abuse is far more diverse than mine.

  6. @ Ray

Just because he reprised his role from Less Than Zero in real life doesn't make him Charlton Heston.
