This Week’s Videogame Releases

The gaming business is entering its final push before everything is on the table for the holiday rush. This week’s big release is Dragon Age: Origins from the outstanding Edmontonians at BioWare. Music games are facing off again, but this time the battle is for casual gamers with Band Hero and Rock Band: LEGO. Is the music-game genre to saturated? Or will these games sell to a different audience?

While you ponder that, here are this week’s PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo DS releases…along with some brief commentary. I’ve taken out most of the garbage and kids games (unless I found them funny). As always, let me know if you’re planning to buy any of this week’s new releases.

Dragon Age Origins chicky

PlayStation 3
Band Hero — Too bad this isn’t Band Camp Hero. I’d play an RPG about this one time, at band camp.
Dragon Age: Origins — BioWare rules!!!
Pro Evolution Soccer 2010
Rock Band: AC/DC Track Pack
Rock Band: LEGO
Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition
— I’m pretty sure the Sith invented repackaging.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition

Xbox 360
Band Hero
Dragon Age: Origins — Did I mention that I’m a big BioWare fan?
Pro Evolution Soccer 2010
Rock Band: AC/DC Track Pack
Rock Band: LEGO
Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition
— One day the Sith will pay for taking out Ki-Adi-Mundi and his glorious noggin’.

Academy of Champions Soccer

Nintendo Wii
Academy of Champions: Soccer — I actually want to play this game, because it sounds so absurd. It’s like Harry Potter with soccer. Instead of four houses (Ravenclaw, Slytherin, etc.), all the kids are divided into teams and instead of Dumbledore as headmaster, you have Pele. I’m not making this up.
Band Hero
Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Grooves
Food Network: Cook or Be Cooked — Alton Brown should be a character in a fighting game. He’d own.
My Baby First Steps — Sadly, this isn’t about Bill Murray’s character in What About Bob?
Need for Speed: Nitro
Rabbids Go Home — In general, going home is something we should all do.
Rock Band: AC/DC Track Pack
Rock band: LEGO
We Cheer 2
— I guess we didn’t cheer loud enough the first time.

Sony PlayStation Portable
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron

Nintendo DS
A Christmas Carol
Agatha Christie: ABC Murders — What?!?
Band Hero
Need for Speed: Nitro
Rabbids Go Home
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron
Sushi Academy
— I’d love to go to a sushi academy. Ankimo ftw!!!

  1. Yes, I am so pumped for Dragon Age. I already got all my DLC through Journeys, This could be my only 100+ hour game of the year

  2. Money is short, so Dragon Age is going to have to wait on the back burner. Probably going to pick up Shadow Complex this weeked as it's cheap, and I can ride that and finish Uncharted 2/Brutal until Assassin's Creed 2 comes out. I'll probably end up asking for Dragon's Age/GoW pack for christmasy type goodness. And after that… Darksiders.
