NPD Console Sales Figures Top 10 Games of July 2010

July’s best-selling games were also a bit on the Bizzaro side — at least to me. A lot of games that have made the list for the last year were knocked off by newcomers. Check it out: NCAA Football 11 (Xbox 360): 368,000 NCAA Football 11 (PS3): 298,000 Crackdown 2 (Xbox 360): 208,800 Super Mario … Continue reading “NPD Console Sales Figures Top 10 Games of July 2010”

Coffee Talk#167: Who’s Your Favorite Boutique Publisher?

Here’s another simple Coffee Talk topic for you: who’s your favorite small publisher? In the gaming industry, it seems like every other story is about Activision or Electronic Arts, but smaller publishers are important to the business as well. I love that Atlus bring quirky Japanese games to America. I love that Nicalis helps small games like Cave Story get attention.

Games get better all the time. Development techniques improve. Gameplay styles evolve. Consoles and PCs become more powerful, which allow them to be potentially more immersive. Despite all of these factors, there are things I miss about the good old days of gaming. Perhaps it’s the primitive charm of classic games or maybe I like how old games required me to imagine or maybe it’s simply nostalgia, but there are many things I miss about the classics.

Blast From the Past: Reset Episode 6

Superheros, new consoles, and Konami — this episode of Reset has a lot going on! The second clip is particularly amusing when viewed through the retroscope; predicting PlayStation 3 factoids before launch is always good fun. Anyway, check it out! Part 1 — I love X-Men Legends. Action-RPGs are some of my favorite games and … Continue reading “Blast From the Past: Reset Episode 6”

The Perfect Rental: (Not) A Review of Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain

Its graphics, music, characters (minus some spotty voice acting), and storytelling are phenomenal. Entertainment aside, it’s the kind of game that moves the industry forward and leads to greater experiences. As much as … Continue reading “The Perfect Rental: (Not) A Review of Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain”
