What’s Your Favorite Zelda Moment?

25 years ago yesterday, The Legend of Zelda was released in Japan. The game was an instant classic and spawned numerous sequels that have sold millions of copies. It’s arguably the most popular and influential series in adventure games. Similar to how we all discussed our favorite Mario moments for his 25th anniversary, I’d love to hear about your favorite Zelda moments.

As for me, I’m going to go with The Wind Waker knocking it out of the park. So many jaded videogame journalists hated the game’s graphics and unfairly dismissed it based off of its art style. I thought that the art was charming and had no doubt that The Wind Waker would contain classic Zelda gameplay. It also gave me one of my favorite videogame tracks ever (embedded below). I enjoyed watching several of my peers eat crow on this game.

Now it’s your turn. What was your favorite Zelda moment?

  1. Close call between WindWaker and OoT.

I'd have to go with the Ganon final battle in OoT though. The music and the free roaming really capped off an epic game. I was seriously not expecting the kind of character interactions (think the Temple of Time ppl explaining events) the game delivered.

  2. I really liked playing the Phantom Hourglass on my DS, and Link's Awakening on my GB way back in the day. I still really want/need to play the Spirit Tracks too. I also liked Twilight Princess a lot as well and am looking forward to the Skyward Sword whenever that comes out.

  3. My favorite Zelda is A Link to the Past. Love everything about it.

The original Zelda on NES is my second favorite

I didn't care for Windwaker, never even got close to finishing it.

    Ocarina of Time was good.

    Haven't played anything past Windwaker.

  4. The final battle(s) of "A Link to the Past" will always be the most memorable to me since it was the first Zelda game I've ever beaten and I've played all of them up to that point. Zelda games were so hard for me when I was younger even though I loved playing them all. Needless to say that actually beating Gannon on my own in an epic showdown was one of the most gratifying experiences I ever had as a kid.

Aside from that, there are a lot of memorable moments in Ocarina of Time, like how Gannon, Zelda, and Link are all "related" on the Triforce, the epic last battle and escape sequence, Zelda revealing herself as Sheik, and the whole future Link/past Link time traveling mechanic.

Shadow Link from Zelda II was also a memorable character/fight.

  5. I thought I had beaten OoT right before I started traveling through time. I was super jazzed that most of the game was still ahead of me.

The only thing I didn't really like about Parappa the Windwaker was all that useless time spent on the boat. I got bored of sailing real fast.

  6. i think im the only person in the world who hasnt played OoT or windwaker…..

ill say the boss battle in zelda 2…the shadow link

    1. one of the only…I haven't either. I like Zelda games, I just never played those ones really. We are definitely the minority of people here who haven't though.

  7. I love everything about SNES A Link to the Past, especially the world switch sound. The music is awesome the story is great and to this day I have not found everything in that game lol.

OoT was an awesome game except for the gd Water Temple .

    1. Which was worse…the water level in OoT or Ninja Turtles?

I have to say Ninja Turtles since I never ever beat that damn game.

WHY IS THE WATER LEVEL THE WORST!!??? I mean friggin Ecco the Dolphin was a fun game..but so damn hard..why? It's all IN THE WATER!

      1. The NES Ninja Turtles? If that is what you talking about then yes, I never beat that game or that level lmao. I did beat OoT so NT takes the cake.

      2. i actually beat that level, i LOVED that turtles game…i didnt beat the game, i got to the last level, but couldnt quite get to shredder

  8. i didn't have as much trouble with the Water Temple in OoT. The turtles game yes. I would cast my vote for the Turtles game being a game i really gave up on.

As for my favorite Zelda Moment would be playing LttP with my friends during the summer of 94 or 95. it took all of our collective gaming to finish that game.
