Engadget Mobile has done a ton of sleuthing on the Google Nexus S and unlike Gizmodo, the outlet didn’t have to buy a stolen phone. I kid, I kid. The Google Nexus S is being made by Samsung and will feature a stock version of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and, curiously, T-Mobile’s AWS 3G bands. It has a front-facing camera for video chat and a five-megapixel camera for taking pictures/video. Presumably it will feature Samsung’s vaunted Super AMOLED screen technology and an updated Hummingbird processor.
On paper, it sounds frickin’ fantastic. However, we live in the real world and not on paper. From Engadget’s multiple pictures, the Nexus S looks like Samsung’s other Galaxy S phones — heavy use of plastic and an iPhone 3GS-like look. I greatly prefer the metallic feel of phones like the Droid X and T-Mobile G2. As a T-Mobile customer, I’m interested in the Nexus S since it will always be the first Android phone to receive updates. However, I find T-Mobile’s WiFi calling incredibly useful and don’t expect to see it on a stock Android phone (though I’m sure it can be hacked on).
Any of you excited by the Nexus S? It should be an excellent phone, but is it excellent enough for you to drop cash on?

Interesting. I have to wonder if 2.3 can run natively or vanilla on a hummingbird though. It would seem that it was meant for Snapdragon. Maybe the logic in and out isn't as convoluted as I think.
Regardless, it's amazing that this thing hasn't been mentioned earlier if it is supposed to be a holiday release.
It should run fine on Hummingbird. I've played with a rooted Galaxy S running stock FroYo and didn't notice any problems.
I'm def getting off of the deathstar by year's end or shortly thereafter. For the whole week I haven't been able to send a damn text message or make a phone call. I'm talking that if I were to fall down a hole and had to make a call or send a text to save myself I couldn't. Don't mind the fact that my iphone4 is killing the battery by constantly searching for a damn 3G signal. Today it dropped 30% in one hour searching and getting 3G nonstop. Stupid. Yet they plan on launching LTE next year and have been upgrading their network the last 3 years. Bullshit.
I hope this thing is real, or the iPhone hits Verizon soon. I can't take this crap.
One of my analyst friends was being coy when I asked him if he had hands-on time with it. I think he has used it…or he's just being a dick.
All signs point to a Verizon iPhone 4 in January. Would you switch to that or an Android phone?
Preferably iPhone since it fits my Apple ecosystem but I'm not opposed to Android since I have an iPad and wouldn't lose the use of ios and my paid apps. I just want a vanilla android experience. Bloat isn't my thing.
Sadly it looks like the Nexus S will not fully support HSPA+ (14.4MB max down) speeds.
That's disappointing. I don't think TMo will ever be faster than 1mbps in my area.
