Coffee Talk #182: Your Biggest 2010 Gaming Disappointment

We’ve already discussed our favorite games from the first half of 2010. Today I want you to join me in the bitter barn so that we can talk about games that have disappointed us this year. Yeah, I usually try to keep things positive, but disappointing games are a reality. It’s like a television show once told me: “You take the good. You take the bad. You take them both and there you have the facts of life.” Though in this case it would be the facts of gaming.

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, SNL’s Jason Sudeikis hooking up with women out of his league, the bizarre Pacquiao/Mayweather negotiations, or the hotness of Joss Stone, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

Most of the games I played this year were pretty much what I expected them to be. The one game that I found disappointing was Crackdown 2. My expectations were pretty high. I enjoyed the first one and was excited for the sequel after I saw it in April. Then I started helping my friend with his review. I enjoyed the multiplayer but was very disappointed in the single-player experience. It bummed me out to the point where I haven’t been able to start playing on my Xbox 360. I’m sure I’ll get to it again one day, but for now there are better games to play.

Now it’s your turn! What 2010 games were you disappointed in?

  1. Alan Wake. I can't make myself play past the first hour. Wish I had that money back.

  2. Assassin's Creed 2, i didn't like the way the camera reacted or at times didn't react during free run. Thank god i just rented it. I don't see why people are praising this game.

    @Jason Sudeikis

    I guess when it comes down to it women, yes even hot ones, do like a funny man.

    @mayweather-pacquiao

    this is getting ridiculous. They're acting like a bunch of 8 year olds. Either get it done or don't. Stop toying with us.

    @Joss Stone

    I guess. i had to google her she's pretty good looking, too bad we won't get to see her in skimpy Bond girl clothing.

  3. I am so disappointed with UFC 2010. I returned it. I thought the career mode in this edition was too robust, it felt like I had too many options of who I could train with. I just wanted to be a muay thai/bjj fighter but was forced to go to a training camp, pick a trainer, and master a move. Then I had to keep training to stay in shape and get some sponsors, all before my first fight. For hard core MMA fans and people with a lot of time on their hands thats great but I follow the sport closely and work for a living lol. Single player sucks in that game! I would of kept it if I had some friends with it or if my gf liked sweaty grappling men pounding each other from the rear. Multiplayer is pretty cool but not worth $60 at all.

  4. @Big Blak

    haha. Shame on your gf for not liking virtual sweaty men pound each other from the rear.

  5. I have not played the actual game, just the demo- but Skate 3 would have to be my vote for a game from the first half of this year. The whole series has just gotten worse after the first one came out. I am actually playing the second one now just because I know I can get a couple more achievements on it if I play it a little more, but the quality went down a lot from the first to the second and even more from the second to the demo for the third one.

    The feel of the game is so cartoonish, and there are still some glitches with the character movements. Some of those problems were there in the first game, but they didn't bother me because everything else about the game was awesome, and it was the first one. These problems just get more annoying as the series progresses and the devs still don't do anything about the issues though.

  6. @rpad

    I rented it and played for about 2 hours. I got a couple of trophys out of it but i'm not a fan of the free run camera or gameplay or the combat system.

  7. Crackdown 2 was just awful.

    RDR wasn't very good IMO.

    Assassin Creed 2. The money system is so flawed. I got to Venice and never played beyond that because of the repetition because of the repetition.

    Lost Planet 2 they got rid of the Snow WTF. Survival is what made it unique

    Mod Nation Racers sorry the load times are killer

    Bayonetta just yuck. what a piece of crap

  8. @slicky

    haha. the repetition. repetition.

    I played fat princess and finished the story mode. You played right? besides the warrior can the other characters block? I find this game kool but i hate the fact that you can't block. I like that he pirate can shoot off a cannon once his magic meter falls but i wish you could aim it somewhere. i can't wait to see how my online adventures go.

  9. @Tokz

    Yeah I beat the story this weekend also, it was a bit short. I didn't anyone could block. I start of as a worker every time and build resource to upgrade everything then I used become a Warrior but now I like running around as the Giant or the pirate. I like that the pirate can light his gun on fire also. In SP mode I fill the catapult up with those big bombs then fling them and myself into the other base and steal the princess or at the least cause mass destruction.

  10. @slicky

    the story was short! I finished yesterday in one sitting of 2 hours! did the last story icing on the cake take a long time for you? It seemed to take me a good hour and half. It was mentally draining after 45 mins. I was about to quit then my team and i kept getting the princess out like maybe every 5 mins but never making it past the gates. Eventually i just started to call everyone for help, got in the catapult and stormed the castle until we made off with the princess. fun game though. I'm glad i finally broke down and got it.

  11. Bayonetta is cool on 360. Better software experience lol. I like games like Bayonetta that have the "will make grown men cry" difficulty.

    This could be fun.

  13. Damn SOE not supporting OpenGL. That's garbage. Then again, I'm sure that game won't dent WoW. Unfortunately Cataclysm will drop this fall when this game launches…and that will be that.

  14. @Smartguy;

    What's wrong with Alan Wake? I'm really looking forward to that game. Don't spoilarz anything for me, but can you tell me in general what's wrong with it?

    -M

  15. @iceman

    Email me your address and I will let you find out. I'm not saying it's bad, I just wanted something different I think.
