Microsoft Announcing Hulu on Xbox 360 at E3 2010?

Here’s a hot E3 2010 rumor by way of Gear Live — Microsoft will announce a premium version of Hulu that will be available on Xbox 360. The look would be similar to how Netflix shows up on the Xbox Live dashboard. A paid subscription would also be required. Remember, Hulu was rumored to be launching a premium service in May, but that didn’t happen. Perhaps the Xbox 360 will kick things off. Here’s the deal from Gear Live’s Andru Edwards:

We’ve heard from a very reliable source (who has never been wrong before) that Microsoft is set to unveil Hulu as an Xbox Live service at E3 2010. Similar to how Netflix is integreated into the Xbox 360 dashboard, Hulu would be there as well, and would require a subscription fee.

What do you guys and gals think of the possibility oh Hulu on Xbox 360? What would you be willing to pay for premium content?

  1. Wow! So not only would i have to pay for xbox live gold but also a subscription to hulu as well??? People wonder why i havent touched my xbox in 6 months.

  2. That's cool and all but between my own movie/tv collection, netflix, and regular, good old fashion, cable tv, I cant see myself paying for more tv. Just doesn't make any sense to me. Can…you…dig…it!?

  3. I don't know that I would want to pay for Hulu as well. I pay for Netflix and the gold subscription already, Hulu might be a stretch. I could see myself paying for television channels through my 360, but probably not Hulu at this point.

  4. Wow. I watch Hulu pretty regularly, so that is great news, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I pay a single penny to watch it on TV via XBL… especially if the thing is still chock-full of ads. Microsoft should be showing us the added value of paying $50/year for their service, and not try to "EA" it out of us.

Also, doesn't Windows 7 have a feature that allows you to show whatever is on your PC on your TV? If that's the case, why can't someone just watch Hulu on their TV via laptop or PC?

  5. No, I'm not having another sub introduced into my monthly bills. In fact, if xbox live doesn't get a price drop, I think I will not renew at the end of June.

  6. @Iceman

Yes they are supposed to do something like that through media center. It should have been possible on XP and Vista computers when media center had been downloaded for those versions.

And I do have that on my laptop which is running windows 7, but I still cannot get that to work properly.

  7. This seems dumb to me. I watch Hulu on my TV already. I have a 20' HDMI cable running from my ATI graphics card via a DVI – HDMI converter. Ati released drivers a while back that let sound go through DVI so I get perfect sound and picture spanned across to my TV. That's all in XP. When I boot to my Win 7 drive I would think it would be easier with the Media center but I still us XP everyday over windows 7.

But I can't even bring myself to pay for the Gold subscription so there's no way I'd pay for this.

  8. I just started playing my 360 again for Left4Dead 2 and ODST (used for $15). I really really really hate the 360s dashboard. It is by far the worst setup I have ever seen. It takes me forever to find anything. I would really enjoy being able to freaking find the place to start games easier and stop showing me all of that stupid spotlight crap.

  9. The 360 UI is so simple, it just has waaaaay to much stuff in it. Well now that Im ready your post again that is pretty much what you said.

You press down, dude… that's all.

You can also go to the options and tell it to start the disc when inserted and skip the dash all together. However… that's a little more complicated than pressing down.

Really. I must just always go the wrong way first then. Also I loathe autostart. When I got my new PS3 the other day I forgot it is on by default. I don't know why autostart angers me so much but it does, so i disable it on everything.

I just still prefer the old dashboard.

I didn't like the old interface at all. I know NXE isn't perfect, but I think it flows pretty well- especially better than the old dashboard.

  13. @ Slicky

I hear you, I'm not a fan of auto start myself.

The old dashboard will pop up if you hit the big Xbox button in the middle. At the bottom of the first blade, is the option to run whatever disc you have in the tray.

  14. @ Slicky;

I know what you mean, man. I preferred the old "blades" interface better than the NXE, myself. The old system was much simpler and I was able to find everything I wanted easily enough. The NXE, however, is a bit more convoluted. It just seems like way too much stuff all around the place. I have to scroll up and down to find different levels of I-don't-know-what. Then I have to scroll right for things related to that I-don't-know-what. I especially hate that I have to go into the Zune marketplace black hole to watch a video or hear music. Sometimes I wish that Microsoft would let us choose how to arrange our dashboard so I could at least take out all the garbage that I never use out of my face every time I start up the console.

    (my two cents)
