Pokemon Black and White Starters Revealed + A Poll

The excellent people at Serebii have translated a recent issue of CoroCoro magazine that revealed information on the starter Pokemon in the upcoming Pokemon Black/White. As expected, you can choose from a fire, water, and grass Pokemon. (In my best Bob Sheppard voice) And now…your starting lineup…for Pokemon Black/White:

  • Tsutaja — A snake-like grass Pokemon
  • Pokabu — A pig-like fire Pokemon
  • Mijumaru — An otter-like water Pokemon

I’m really digging the new starter Pokemon designs. I have a soft spot in my heart for grass starters (bulbasaur and chikorita rule!) and Tsutaja seems like an interesting choice. However, the concept of a fire pig is just awesome. Otters are also amusing to me, simply because of a term I learned a few years ago from a San Francisco bear (bonus points if you know what an otter is in the context of the gay community).

  1. Fire type FTW, Grass always seems to get owned. Grass <Psychic,Fire,Ice,Flying Fire < Water, Ground, Rock.

  2. @Arguello Grass Pokemon can be incredibly annoying to fight. Leech seed, poison powder, and sleep powder are great for throwing a wrench in an opponent's offense.

  3. I also like starting with the grass type, some people say that that is because they are the easiest to start with, but I think they are very strong. So why not go with strength from the beginning? lol

  4. Grass just always seemed like more of a support type class than anything else. Dropping Safeguard against any grass type almost always secures their downfall.

  6. I don't want to know what an Otter is in gay terms… Doesn't sound like something I want to know. (You would think /b/ and the Army would have sterilized me to these kinds of things, and believe me when I say they have tried…)

    A snake grass type is appealing as I love their serpent/dragon Pokemon and so is the otter (Anyone who reads my Facebook/Twitter/Xbox Live profiles can figure out why)

  7. FIRE FTW!!!

    Char Char Charmander and all its forms are still my favorite Pokemon of all time. And plus when a fire pig loses a battle it loses its honor and has great shame so it lights itself on fire and then we all have some pork chops :) (I don't eat pork to often so that would be a treat).

  8. So when I used to work at Blockbuster, we sold those Yu-Gi-Oh cards. We'd get kids coming in all the time asking for them. I remember one time when we were out of them, one kid started showing me his collection. "And this is so and so and he does this, and this one is who'samabob, and he does this."

    I just stood there nodding my head thinking to myself "WTF is this kid talking about." And then I realized I was giving this kid the same blank look my mother used to give me when I talk about Transformers when I was a kid. "Look mom, now it's a car, now it's a robot, now it's a car, now it's a robot." "That's nice dear."

    It was at that moment I knew that I was officially getting old. Next thing you know I'll be asking my toddler to set the time on my VCR cause I can't figure it out anymore…..
