More iPhone / AT&T / Verizon Rumors

Ah, the rumors of the Apple iPhone going to Verizon and the speculation that it will remain exclusive with AT&T never end. Here’s a double dose for you today. First up is Engadget Mobile’s Nilay Patel, who confirmed that AT&T and Apple entered into a five-year contract in 2007, but questions whether it’s still valid:

Contracts can be canceled, amended, and breached in many ways, and AT&T’s spotty recent service history plus the explosion of the iPhone and the mobile market in general have given Apple any number of reasons to revisit the deal. In addition, the two companies obviously hit the negotiating table again to hammer out the iPad’s pricing plans, and there’s no way of knowing whether that deal involves the iPhone as well.

Next up is CrunchGear’s John Biggs. He received a tip that Verizon’s advertising agency is working on a campaign for the upcoming iPhone:

A company called Landor Associates “working on an advertising campaign” for Verizon for the upcoming iPhone (you know, the one that the police knocked down Jason Chen’s door down to get generally more information about?). Ladnor has been working on Verizon branding since 2007 and is, according to a tipster, now hard at work preparing for the iPhone HD launch.

Naturally I’m more interested in how these rumors impact your purchasing decisions. Are you going wait for an iPhone on Verizon or go with an excellent alternative like the HTC Incredible? Will you stick with AT&T if it remains America’s exclusive iPhone carrier? Share your feelings — like a Care Bear…or not — in the comments section (please)!

  1. I'd consider buying it on VZW eventhough I have the HTC. It would have to be better than the HTC though.

  2. Apple might still be getting my next phone purchase over microsoft after all…I am still not even sure which one I want the most. I am trying to leave my final verdict until I can see them both, but I don't feel like the chances of that are too good.

  3. @bsukenyan I'm still not sure why you're sold on Windows Phone 7 already. The videos are nice and the software is potentially great, but I want to see it running on actual hardware.

Which is why I still have some skepticism over the Windows Mobile 7 phone, I have to like the feel of the actual phone just as much as the OS. I don't like the feel of the actual phone for most of the top sellers right now, or at least the ones being talked about for the time being. I think that Google's Android OS runs smoothly, but I don't like any of the actual phones.

I have had minor experience with other Windows Mobile devices and have like the experience pretty well, so I am hoping that Mobile 7 has the same simple feeling that I think the other versions have. Most of my skepticism comes from not having messed around with the actual phone that the OS will be sold on, and that is a deal breaker. On the other hand I know that I can put up with the iPhone's actual feel and how it handles, and it also has a solid OS (for the most part, nothing's perfect) and I think that should explain most of my personal debate over the phones.

I know what an iPhone is capable of, I am very anxious to see what WM7 has to offer- but yes I do have high very hopes for it already.

  5. honestly the 4th iPhone is a day one purchase for me. I doubt Verizon will be launching it in June like AT&T will. I'd say Verizon is likely to get an LTE version early in 2011 or with the 5th iPhone in mid 2011.

Either way, when Verizon has an iPhone I'll switch back to them in a heartbeat.

    @ BSU
