While it doesn’t contain everything shown at Comic Con 2015, the Deadpool red band trailer is still pretty awesome. The silly humor and ridiculous violence that make the comics so much fun appear to be present in the movie. Of course the action and quips are fantastic, but I really enjoyed Deadpool’s interactions with Weasel. I’m a fan of the character and TJ Miller usually makes me laugh. My only disappointment with the Deadpool red band trailer is that the Negasonic Teenage Warhead joke was cut.
Anyway, check out the clip when you have a chance. While Ryan Reynold’s is partially responsible for the most traumatic superhero movie that I’ve ever seen, I’m cautiously excited for Deadpool. Reynolds seems to have the character’s tone down perfectly and the ludicrous violence is as it should be. What do you guys and dolls think? Does the Deadpool red band trailer give you high hopes for the movie? Or is the stench of Green Lantern still too fresh?
So last night my wife and I were watching TV and we see a commercial for Conan which showed a brief clip of Ryan Reynolds. My wife said something about liking his “romantic-comedy” movies, although I’m not sure what she’s talking about. In order to continue the conversation, though, I mentioned to her that he’s probably on Conan to promote the Deadpool movie. I figured that if she likes to watch Ryan Reynods movies, at least that would be a good excuse to drag her to see Deadpool. She then turns to me and says; “Oh, no, I don’t like it when they covered up his mouth.” I stared at her incredulously and said, “WHAT?!” She went on to say, “You know, that movie where they closed his mouth. I didn’t like that.”
As soon as I realized what she was talking about, I literally busted out laughing. In all honesty, part of me was sad (because of what Fox did with the character’s first movie outing in that dumb Wolverine film), but the overwhelming reaction was laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of someone saying that they weren’t interested in a Deadpool movie because the character can’t talk. On the plus side; my wife remembered the Deadpool character from the movie.
I then explain to her the difference between the REAL Deadpool character of the comic books as opposed to the shitty Fox movie version that she saw on screen. I told her about his wise-cracking antics that are only outdone by his penchant for crazy, over-the-top assassinations. Mostly, I was bashing Fox for their seemingly blatant disregard for most of the Marvel source material. After all, how can they so brazenly take away the voice of someone that is known as the “Merc with a Mouth?” (I may have also gone on a tangent rant about “Days of Future Past” to the point where I brought out the TPB reissue of the story arc.)
“I’m just happy that this movie is rated ‘R’,” I later told her of the upcoming Deadpool movie. She then asks me if I think the movie is rated “R” because of “sex” stuff. This time, I just stared at her blankly, face-palmed simply shook my head.
