What Are You Playing This Weekend?

Getting back from DICE and catching up with other work responsibilities hasn’t left me with a lot of time for gaming. I’m going to fix that this weekend. I’ve really missed Final Fantasy XIII-2. I’m pretty sure Serah, Noel, and Mog feel neglected. Sorry guys! I’ll play with you this weekend, for sure.

How about you? What’s on your weekend playlist?

  1. Rented Twisted Metal. The game plays well, it is fun. I can't play online because it requires a pass. The controls take a bit to get used to, without the booklet it was tough to figure out….then I found the tutorial. The environments are pretty big, multilevel, destructible and riddled with hidden stuff. I am enjoying it but it isn't a must have, online is probably pretty great. I may breakdown and buy the pass, or just buy the game.

Also found a game I had never heard of MAYHEM 3D. It is $40 brand new. It is Black and White Demolition Derby. You can adjust whether or not you have 3D on or the depth of the 3D (Red & Blue 3D). But it is pretty fun. I enjoy mindless destruction though.

Last game. I just found a game on the Android Market, Cartoon Wars. This game will be amazing on my new phone I am getting on Sunday.

      1. A lot of the games I have bought lately have and online pass code inside. I supposed it is to deture used game sales

      2. It is meant to deter the used sales. Somew games though, like Battlefield or Twisted Metal, are so online heavy though that an online pass feels VERY heavy handed. I mean, how do you truly test out a game like Battlefield 3 with a rental if you can't go online at all? IDK, there has to be a better solution.

      3. Honestly I think the industry should adapt to the market and change the pricing structure. Make new games compete in price with used games. Offer real value and that will deter used sales and rentals.

I know it won't happen but it's just an idea. I always point out that NFL 2k5 was a success priced brand new at $20. Which for a yearly release makes a lot of sense.

  2. Minecraft until Wednesday. Then, Uncharted on the Vita for however long it takes me to beat it. I'll find something else to play afterwords.

  3. I just finished The Sims 3 and I'm probably going to move on to Portal 2 to see what all the hoopla is about. I really liked the first one, though. I'll have my wife play through first then we'll probably do the co-op together.

      1. I'm glad you added the phrase "for an achievement" to that sentence because if not, that would have sounded kind of gay.

I really don't know what you are talking about because I have yet to touch the multi-player. My wife and I are both simultaneously trying to finish the solo campaign before we do the co-op. (I really have to get her acclimated to the whole strafing/looking control thing… she is a casual gamer after all). I think we are about half-way through, but the thing is that we don't want too get too far ahead of each other, so when one of us completes a level, the other catches up and/or goes a bit further. This way, we help each other out and it's kind of like playing the same solo campaign "together". It's actually pretty amazing as how this game can garner two different sets of perspectives from any given puzzle. There are times when things are obvious to her, but not me and vice-versa.

Anyway, the progress is slow-going since I have work and she has the baby (and as you know, the baby is 24/7), but the important thing is that we're having fun with this game together … when we're not criticizing each other for being "dumb-asses" for not seeing the "obvious" solution, that is.

When I start working on the co-op, I'll let you know.

    1. I can provide a hug too if you want. Actually in the interest of getting an achievement I still need to play through the calibration course with someone who has not done so before, so if you let me know before you do that I would appreciate it. Or if someone else here hasn't played Portal 2 co-op and would like to help me get the Professor Portal achievement I would appreciate it.

      1. See my comment to N8 above.

I don't know what the Professor Portal achievement entails, but I'll let you know when I'm done with the single-player campaign.

  5. Just kidding, Dead Island and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix with my girl, she's hooked lol.

    1. Try Cuban coffee mixed with a little lime juice, tabasco sauce, garlic, ginger and alka-selzer.

      Works like a charm.

If that doesn't work, try ditching the wife and kid for a weekend. That may help, too.

      1. You're not really giving me much to look forward to. My kid is already making me a cranky panda and he can't even crawl or talk yet.

… but he's got the crying thing down pat.

  6. Actual conversation overheard in my housel ast night between my son and my wife as she was playing Final Fantasy XIII-2:

Drew: (points to large yellow bird) "Mommy, why's that a Chewbacca?"
    Mommy: "That's a Chocobo, not a Chewbacca."
    Drew: "What's a Chocobo?"
Mommy: "That. A large yellow bird."
Drew: "Why is a Chocobo a large yellow bird?"
Mommy: "Go watch you father play Star Wars."
    Me: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!"

  7. While everyone was out having a life on Saturday, I got my ass kicked and kicked some ass in MK. I can't believe no one was online to witness it other than he who shall remain nameless.

    1. so we are calling it a draw?

theres a good way to tell if you were a winner at mortal kombat….

was your head removed? If so, then you probably lost

      1. No… I definitely performed at least 2 fatalities (one with Scorpion and one stage fatality in the Pit). Maybe more, I can't recall. He performed none, however.

Don't let him lead you astray. I don't know if you would call it a draw or not since we seemed to lose count of how many matches we fought.

I like to see it as similar to the ending of Rocky. No ultimate winner or loser, and afterwards we got married and had a baby in Fable 3.

        There's always Rocky II though.

      2. Uh… wasn't Apollo the big black guy and Rocky, the white, scrappy dude from Pennsylvania?

I think you got your metaphor backwards.

      3. I just dont see BB as a dance around the ring kind of guy. I see him as the kind of guy who talks trash, insults your woman, then beats the hell out of you.

  8. Finished Bastion, really good game, and Jet Set Radio Future replay.. Also played some Mass Effect 3 demo and Battlefield 3.
