Coffee Talk #280: Your Most Wanted Games of 2011

2010 was a fantastic year for gaming and 2011 looks even better! What are some of the games you’re looking forward to in 2011? Here’s my personal top five…

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, why America cares about the Kardashians, Floyd Mayweather getting hassled by his HOA, or the miracle of Ted Williams, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

2010 was a fantastic year for gaming and 2011 looks even better! What are some of the games you’re looking forward to in 2011? Here’s my personal top-five list:

  1. Dragon Age II — I love BioWare. I love fantasty RPGs. Of course this is on the top of my list.
  2. Diablo III — I love Blizzard. I love action-RPGs. Oh, you know….
  3. The Last Guardian — As a huge Ico fan, I’m really looking forward to the game’s visuals and emotional storytelling.
  4. Portal 2 — I have no doubt that this one will rock. I’m fairly sure that this will be even better than the original.
  5. Journey — Some day, love will find you. Oops. Wrong Journey. I loved Flower and I can’t wait to see what thatgamecompany has in store with Journey.

Games that just missed the list include The 3rd BirthdayThe Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword, Batman: Arkham City, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Now it’s your turn! What are your most wanted games of 2011?

  1. duke nukem forever

i dont know, there really arent any games at all on my radar right now…really, cant even think of one

  2. Diablo 3

Can't say I'm looking forward to any console games. I'm ready for new consoles with better graphics. Hopefully the next gen pops up soon and isn't just about 3D

  3. 1. Pokemon Black/White

    7. Portal 2

    8. Bulletstorm

    9. Gears of War 3

    10. I'll probably play Duke Nukem Forever as well, but I keep forgetting about that one

      1. That is by far my most anticipated game this year (and we are less than 60 days away from release!). It seems like it will actually have a decent story in this one too, from what I have heard about it so far thanks to Ms. Gudmundson's imported copy. I'm hoping it will be well developed, no matter what though there are so many aspects of the game that I am excited to try out.

      1. that's just how much more I want Pokemon Black/White over any other game right now. lol.

  4. I guess Gears 3 is the only console game I can think of after deliberation. Possibly UC3. I'm not so fond of my ps3 as of late so I'm gonna have to think if I want to support it.

  5. Finally bought Mafia 2. There was a price drop at Best Buy. The PS3 version includes the add-on pack "The Betrayal of Jimmy"

Also just bought The Shoot & Kinect Sports

  6. @Everyone

Has anyone played Dead Rising 2 and is it worth $50 or even any fun. I got bored with the first one kinda quickly.

    1. Slicky,

N8 has played it, I hope he reads your post and responds because I want to know what he thought of that game as well.

That's actually one of the games I'm looking forward to playing this year since I liked the first one.

i read a couple of mins ago. I hate OSU but it doesn't make sense to have that billboard in Ohio when they beat Wisconsin.

      1. It stemmed from OSU's President making comments against schools like TCU and pretty much saying that they were a very low quality school that didn't deserve to be where they were because they didn't play good teams like OSU does.

      2. Just reminding OSU that TCU can still play a good team and do well. Rubbing it in their faces that a team that the President of OSU called the little sisters of the poor can still win.

    2. That was F'n awesome. It totally made my day. Trust me, Bsukenyan, nobody hates the F**keyes more than Miami… well, Miami and Michigan.

    1. Dang I just mentioned Dead Space 2 and until your article I had forgotten again that I was looking forward to it

  7. Am I the only one who find a huge flaw in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 game? I just can't grasp the concept of Capcom character fighting Marvel characters. I know it video games but how can Chris from Resident Evil stand a chance against the Incredible Hulk? How can Haggar from Final Fight beat the Phoenix?

    1. I had the same questions about Mortal Kombat vs. DC., but I doubt that logical thinking pertaining to fictitious characters is what led to the game's poor sales.

  8. Wisconsin is not what I call a great program. Then again outside of the SEC I don't see many.

4th year in a row the SEC will win.

    1. They are Big Ten though, what OSU is. So for a team that OSU's President called the little sisters of the poor to beat one of the teams that OSU plays, after OSU's President stated that they play better teams- that is worthy of some ridicule being thrown back in the face of OSU.

      1. @BSU

TCU and Boise State definitely need to up their opponent quality to get some cred from me. Their schedules are soft. One quality opponent per year isn't good enough….even worse if that opponent is only in a bowl game.

Did Boise State even play a school that would play on Saturday? I always saw their scores and noticed the game took place on a Thursday.

      2. @Smartguy

Absolutely, I think it would be great if they could play better teams during the regular season, however due to the weakness of their conferences they can't choose good teams to play. I agree, one quality opponent a year is not enough, especially if it only comes at a bowl game. And I have no clue about Saturday games.

However, I don't think that that should have a ton of impact on the President of OSU making unnecessary derogatory comments about them and someone retaliating in some manner. I would love to see some better match ups for teams like Boise State (ironically also a BSU, which a lot of people assume the BSU in my name is for). Statements like OSU's President made happen, so I am all for something like what TCU did to make a statement back.

      3. @BSU

I'm no fan of Ohio State but their president has a point. TCU gets to go to a big payout game for playing cupcake teams. Easy solution, schedule harder games or swtich conferences.

      4. Actually, TCU is heading to the Big East. Although how Texas Christian belongs in the same conference as Connecticut and Syracuse is beyond me.

      5. tcu will DOMINATE the big east…much like virginia tech has dominated the ACC…but when these BCS bowls come around…except TCU might be able to actually WIN a bowl game

  9. i think smartguy might have had a todd o' connor heart attack

    (see tokz' profile pic)

  10. It was horrible. D was only consistent thing this year until today. We went through 7 RBs this year. Then again if something embarrassing can happen to a team in the NFL for the first time then it will happen against the Saints.

      1. Yeah I'm gonna say the curse hit us last week vs TB for a critical hit. Losing Malcolm Jenkins is like no Polamalu for Pitt. He's that important.

Odd that Brees escaped w/o significant injury this year but the rest of the team didn't lol.

        Oh well…come on Mark Ingram!
