Coffee Talk #252: What’s Your Favorite “Name” Game?

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, Verve’s Panama Elida Estate Natural, Derek Jeter’s contract negotiations, or Sergio Martinez vicious knockout of Paul Williams, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

A lot of videogames have a famous name attached to them. Some have athletes (Frank Thomas: Big Hurt Baseball). Others have game designers (American McGee’s Alice). And some have musical groups (The Beatles: Rock Band). Today I want to hear about your favorite “name” games.

As for me…well, it’s a little embarrassing. I should say that it’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, but I’ll admit that it’s Britney’s Dance Beat. It has the same gameplay as the excellent Bust-a-Groove and was released before Britney lost her mind.

Now it’s your turn! Lay your favorite “name” game on me and enjoy these Britney Spears photos.

  1. The Lord of the Rings Blu-rays are $7.99 on Amazon!

  2. That's a good deal on blurays.

I honestly can't participate in the advertised topic. I'm drawing a blank on name games. Maybe I don't like them? I don't know.

    @random tangent

I went to the Saints game on Sunday and while it was great they won, I think it is my last game to attend. Going to a game is such a poor way for me to watch it compared to my huge tv, surround, constant wifi for fantasy updates, etc. It could also be because I feel I am in church with all the standing up and sitting down. The shit is constant. "O the defense is on the field, let's stand up!" or "hey, it's third down for our offense so we need to stand up!" I wish people would just pick one or the other. Anyway, rant over. I'll still go to Hornets games but I'm done with NFL games. The cheap ass NFL can't even show Redzone inside of the stadiums. F their nickel and diming crap.

  3. I was going to say Dave Mirra's XXX BMX but I just Googled it and his name was never actually on the box. But I did play the hell out of that game. My wife and I used to play it together.

    Games I used to play:

    Sid Meier's Pirates

    Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6's

  4. I used to like Tom Clancy games a lot. But Tony Hawk is probably what I have played the most of. If Ash Ketchem's or Prof. Oak's names were on the pokemon games then I would list those, haha. Madden also makes the list too, but that's about all I can think of.

I'm still waiting on The Monkees Rock Band though.

  5. Spector is just dumb. I heard an interview before healthcare overhaul was passed and he said "I don't like it, but nobody has a better idea" WTF? If he didn't like it why didn't he try to change what he disliked??? Isn't that what he is in position to do? Lol.

  6. I looked at new TVs on Saturday. I'm pretty sure my next will be an LED. I'll get a plasma if I can't get a good enough price on an LED. The color contrast is great on LED and plasma. Made me want to push my LCD out of a window lol.

    1. @SG

I think either Walmart or Bestbuy is going to have a 42" Westinghouse LED on Black Friday for $649. Amazon carries it for $699 (all the time???)

      1. backlit. The Samsung LED (backlit) actually had better colors than the Samsung plasma it was next to. I adjusted the settings on both.

  7. @Everyone

I am going to continue to use the reply system, but I am going to start putting my @'s back. I like being able to look at the recent column and see if anything is directed at me.

    1. Leahy!!!!!!

I can't believe it. He's trying to block on Rpad's site! I know it! (j/k)

I hate Dick Durbin. He's a tool but Democrats run the state of Illinois and people

wonder why we are experiencing deficits.

    2. Arlen Spector has been on a list of shame for a very long time. It's no surprise he's on this list.

You know he's the same idiot that contrived the "magic bullet" theory in the JFK assassination. right?

  8. Disappointed that they changed the name of the 5th region for Pokemon Black/White from Isshu to Unova. Isshu sounded much better, flowed from the tongue, and sounded more like it belonged with the other four region names.

  9. i’ve been looking at the black friday ads….so far nothing has jumped out at me. walmart has KZ2 for $10, but I don’t think I want to even get that.

Anyone else feel like this year is pretty meh?

    1. i think Madden at $29 at wal-mart is ok to me. i think i'm leaning towards gamestop's buy 2 used games/acessories get 1 free.

      1. Oh I might have to hit up gamestop if they are doing 2 used one free, thats how I usually stack up on games.

      2. nevermind i think i’ll get it at toys r us. they will have madden as part of their buy 1 get 1 $5 deal.

    2. I’ve felt it has been that way for the past few years. Target has a 42″ lcd for like $280 that my fiance was looking at, but that is the only good deal that I have seen.

      1. I thought all 720p TVs could do 1080i. I maybe be wrong but I just always thought thats how it worked.

      2. Walmart has a 50″ Sanyo 720 for $500 that I am going to go get. My PS3 does mostly 720 anyway.

      3. i was just sharing info. when i worked at comcast people would get mad at us for them not being able to view some channels more clearer than sports in HD. It turns out that most games and sports support 720p more because it's better for fast motion while 1080i/p are better for like soaps and programs that dont have a lot of motion. They would blame comcast but it's not an issue if you bough a tv that only supports up to 720p. Customer wouldn't listen, i wish common sense was more common.

      4. haha, if only it worked that way. besides, you will probably win by the biggest margin this week getting you an extra 3 trophy points, which you will need to stay neck and neck in our battle there.

  10. revenge of shinobi…..shinobi is real

    tommy lasorda baseball
    joe montana sportstalk football
mike tysons punch out (good one n8r)
    rock band:pink floyd
