Pokemon Trainers Can Catch a Rare Mew in October

From October 15th to 30th, Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver players will be able to obtain a special Mew. This rare psychic Pokemon is incredibly powerful and its stats are evenly distributed. With proper EV training it can serve pretty much any role you can think of. Furthermore, its move pool is unrestricted, making it even more versatile and tougher to predict. Here are some details from the official press release:

The Mew character you will receive is a Level 5 and comes with one basic Normal-type attack, Pound, giving Pokémon Trainers the ability to raise and train Mew as they see fit. Making this distribution especially exclusive, Mew comes inside a Cherish Ball and has a Premier Ribbon, both indicating that you got it via a special event.

During the limited distribution period, players will need to receive Mew using the Mystery Gift option via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service and their existing wireless broadband Internet access, and will need to acquire the Pokédex in the game. Players must also have fewer than three Wonder Cards in their game.

I have at least a dozen Mews on my Pokemon Pearl cartridge and I don’t like using legendary Pokemon for battles…but I “gotta catch ’em all” so I’ll definitely be downloading a new Mew. I’m sure that there are millions of trainers anxiously awaiting the download period. Are you one of them?

  1. I'm ashamed to admit this, but I never got a Mew on any of my cartridges so this really makes me want to get heartgold or soulsilver and a DSi to play on so I can get this!

      1. We have hit the limit on replies lol. I will train it to be a Mew. I like to base move sets around the moves a Pokemon learns on its own. Mew is a mystery to me as to what the final move set will be. It isn't something I plan out in advance unless I have already raised one before. It's easy for me to say Gyarados will learn Rain dance, Thunder, Hydropump, and Hyperbeem because I've raised a ton of them, but new Pokemon and event Pokemon are much harder to plan out.

  2. Wait, what? How do you have a dozen Mews? When I had the original red/blue and gold/silver games, I could only get Mew at a special event that Nintendo had at a local mall. Those were the days of my “catch ’em all” fever and I did up to that point.

My entire collection was lost, however, when the battery save file of all my Pokemon in my game got corrupted and lost. I spent god-knows-how-many hours building up my super army of uber-powerful Pokemon and in the blink of an eye they were all but gone along with all my hard work.

Needless to say that I haven’t touched a Pokemon game since then.

Maybe getting Mew back would inspire me, though. I don’t know.

  3. I really want to get into that with Pokemon Black/White whenever I can manage to get one of those after they come out.

Out of curiosity, why don't you like to battle with Legendary Pokemon? I always found Zapdos quite useful back on my old Blue version personally.

      1. That makes sense. Zapdos was one of the only legendary I ever remember using, but I still wanted them all.

I used (in no particular order) MewTwo, Zapdos, Bulbasaur, Seal, Alakazam, and I don't remember who I used as a 6th, but usually someone who had fire type moves, sometimes a ghost though too.

      2. Not seal, sorry, I used Dewgong…he did very well because he could use the water type moves, but also ice type. That was one reason I liked Zapdos and Dewgong, because they combined two types (electricity and flying; water and ice) and that was just smart preparation. I do need to try out Arcanine and Scyther a little more though.

Possibly dumb question since it has been so long since I have played one of the DS iterations of Pokemon, but I dont remember being able to get original pokemon on my Diamond cartridge. What is the best/easiest way to get older pokemon on the newer cartridges?

    1. haha. well if I can manage to get a DS again or a DSi to play my diamond version on, I might have to take you up on that offer.

    1. Gold and silver were good…Ruby and Emerald I did not care for. I got back into it with Diamond version on DS, and now I am trying to convince my fiance to get me another DS or a DSi for my birthday in a month or so.

  4. Sandrock, you will have a really weak Mew if you do that. The moves it learns naturally aren’t that good. Again, what makes Mew unique is that you can teach it any move.

    1. I probably won't use it much. Psychic type Pokemon don't stay in rotation with me for long. I do want to train it though. Being my first real one and all. Also, jack-of-all-trades Pokemon annoy me. I'll figure something out and let you know how it turns out though. (I'm thing about making a singing Mew so far, but we'll see if that sticks.)
