Coffee Talk #165: What Game Have You Played the Most?

Today’s Coffee Talk is super simple. I want to know what game you’ve played the most. Easy, hey?

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, all four major American mobile carriers having hot phones in July, the Chicago Bulls getting a ton of salary cap space, or holding your phone properly, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

Today’s Coffee Talk is super simple. I want to know what game you’ve played the most. Easy, hey?

As for me, it’s definitely Pokemon Pearl. I spent a year writing a Pokemon column for GamesRadar. I also happen to love the series. Put those two things together and you get 600+ hours of Pokemon Pearl. It seems rather insane after typing that number out.

Now it’s your turn! What game have you played the most? Kindly give a guestimate of the hours you’ve put into it. This will be a fun getting-to-know-you exercise. I can’t wait to see your comments!

  1. Battlefield Bad Company 2 – (most recent) 77 hours of MP and at least 5-6 SP.

Fallout 3 – Pre trophy support was 30ish hours, started over after trophy support got 70 hours in, still never beat the game though and I haven't played any of the add-ons.

    Uncharted 2 – played SP 3 times, MP tons = 30-40 hours

Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory – this goes down as my most addictive game ever. I used to pull 20+ hours gaming sessions multiple days a week. Easily 300+ hours. Best free game ever.

  2. The game I have always gone back to is Wolfenstein 3D, probably the most hours in that game than anything else simply because I've been playing ti for 17 years. A lot of shareware and freeware games also probably make this list as well, small games most people probably have not really heard of: battle tanks, supaplex, bolo ball, a lot that I don't even remember the names of.

Probably a couple hundred hours in the pokemon series (maybe 600+ hours in the combined series for me, probably would have been more if I was better at battling real opponents). I have put a lot of time in to a lot of different games, so I feel like overall my time is pretty well spread out and I try not to focus too much on one game at a time only. Back in high school though it was all about the Age of Empires series…in all seriousness I just did the math to figure out how much I played that series and it came out to an estimate of around 2000+ hours in that series. I played at least 20 hours a week on average for a few years. I also put a lot of time in to Doom, Duke Nukem, and Commander Keen on my laptop back in high school as well, but not nearly the same amount as AoE, lol.

Currently I would say L4D is the most played series. On the blog that my 360 writes every time I turn it on and play it keeps saying that L4D is the most played game, and I do really enjoy that series as well. Again though, I try to evenly divide my time on multiple games.

  3. I'd have to go with Diablo 2. Literally thousands of hours. Next to that would be WoW. Blizz keeps me hooked.

  4. mine reining champ is Oblivion I think, mostly because of all of the excitement over the new Xbox 360. I put well over 200 hours in to that game which is impressive to say the least. I think it even edged out my play time in Star Wars KOTOR, but I attribute that to Oblivion being a much bigger game.

  5. FAR CRY 2

I have about 150ish hours of mulitiplayer alone lol. After that I think the Borderlands have 100+ hours of game play.

  6. I've played Oblivion for way too long. I don't know how many hours, but it was starting to get annoying and that's when it's time to put a game down. After that, I think FF7 is another game I've played for way too long. I've played it on every system it was available for (multiple times). Every time I got a new PC, I would install FF7 and go through the whole entire game again… and don't even get me started on the time I put in just to beat Emerald and Ruby Weapon…

  7. Single player: Uncharted 1. Played through it 6 times.

Multi player: COD MW1. Logged in over 23 days total.

  8. I think I've got like 200 hours logged between Pokemon Plat and SoulSilver. Probably put about 120 hours into ME2 so far.

Grand champion for my time prior to may of last year… WoW. At the bare minimum I've put in about 3500 hours over a period of 3 years. Spelling it out like that really looks especially sad lol, but no regrets. With as much anticipation as I have looking forward to SW:TOR, there is that dread in the back of my mind that I'm about to lose another 3500 lol. If they offer it, I'll be the first to pick up one of those lifetime subscriptions just so I don't have to pay month to month. We'll see though…

Weird side thought… I think I have given the Drs. from Bioware more money the past year then any actual real doctors.

  9. I have no idea to tell you guys the truth. Recently, maybe the Cartel on my iPhone?

It also amazes me that I seem to be the only iPhone user on this site that plays the Cartel.

  10. @N8

What is that game? I have never even heard of it, but I am always trying to find something new in the app store to keep me playing.

    @Larcenous

That is exactly how I felt actually doing the math to figure how many hours I logged in AoE (and I know I spent more than two years playing the series, meaning there were hundreds of more hours logged) but also no regrets. I loved the series.

  11. @ BSU

It's an MMO based on drug cartels. They recently put out the expanded edition called Cartel Wars. It takes a while to rank up, but the interaction is awesome if you get in to the right crew.

    It's also free.

  12. @ Ray

It'll take a day or 2 for me to notice, but I'll send you the status report in a few days.

Remind us to report it in a Housekeeping thread or something.

  13. Probably either Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect. Generally anything by Bioware tends to steal a gigantic amount of my time.

  14. Over 350 hours of CoD4 with Pokemon Silver coming in an unknown (pun) place. I'd have to put CoD4 in to give you an exact number, but Silver is impossible to gauge. (another reference vg :P ) It was too long ago and I replayed it a bunch so there is no way to find out the total. Same with Morrowind which would probably come in 3rd place.

  15. @PSN+

Some of it is good and some of it, well, kind of a ripoff. I like how they are offering free games each month and although they aren't yours permanently, they are still really nice bonuses. On the other side, stuff that should really be part of a system update for all users include, auto downloads and updates and the trail games. One improves/works around one of the PS3s more voiced problems and the other is obviously suited more towards convincing people to buy the games. Both of which Sony "needs" to offer to all users as that would work more towards pushing consoles/game sales. Everything else is inline with offerings Live offers its "Gold" users, so it is definitely a good starting point and there are still more points they can take as well such as a "party" chat support for PSN+ members (hinted at) and possibly opening up their movie catalog for free rentals every now and then.

I am looking forward to the Full game downloads that limit you to 1 hour of play. I generally rent games and give them an hour or so to impress me. Although this wouldn't work for FF13 or RDR since it takes more than an hour for anything to happen.

Also, I won't be paying much extra on top of what I already pay to Sony. I am a Qore subscriber and now that will be included, so that money can just got to PSN+

Hopefully I will get to try out the MINIS before purchase. I know they dont cost much but some of them I have bought suck
