  1. Sadly no. I had high hopes that this would be the version that I would like but not enough changed on it for me to like it anymore than I did before. Also I really did want to get one because our school has started posting all the lecture crap on iTunes so it would have been convenient.

I guess I'll wait and see what the WinPhone7 has to offer and then decide on a new phone.

  2. Only if they announce before the end of the day that Verizon will be a carrier of the iPhone, otherwise it can wait and I will just get the now software for my ipod touch. In which case it is between an Android phone, Windows Mobile 7, and Blackberry. All three seem like good OS's so far, but I have to like the physical phone as well…and I don't like any of them right now.

  3. @bsukneyan

i agree. I dont want to stay with an iphone but i havent like the way other phones feel or work after my iphone. It looks like iphone4 is for me.

  4. @Tokz

I love that mobile OS's are getting so much attention in the recent past, but I feel like the phone companies are forgetting that the physical feel of the phone is important too. That is part of why I still don't have a smartphone, I have the LG Voyager because I like the phone style and it actually fits in my hand, feels comfortable, etc.

  5. @bsu

I agree, sometimes these buttons or slides or on/off switches are in the most awkward places. it throws me all off.

  6. @Tokz

I think the physical phone seems more like an afterthought in a lot of cases and the OS is now the primary concern. And in all honesty I don't remember any of these feelings being a big concern for me when looking at phones before the iPhone came out. I blame the iPhone for causing this obsession with any mobile OS.

  7. @Ray

Actually sometimes I do like them a little more than some of the new phones that have come out. I am not a huge bulky guy or anything (actually tall and skinny) and I like to be able to feel my phone in my hand and not feel like I am constantly on the verge of dropping it whenever I am trying to use it. As far as weight and size of older phones from say four years ago, I never had a problem with them. I still prefer the original V to the voyager actually as far as comfort of the physical phone is concerned.

  8. @bsukenyan I think you'd be best served by any phone that has an Otterbox Defender case. You get bulk and top-notch protection all in one shot. I don't think industrial design trends will lead to a phone you like.

  9. @Ray

The modern designs probably won't, and I have thought that for a while. I think it is too bad that for something to be modern it has to be too small to be usable. I think I could handle an iPhone in a case, and I will have to find something someday, but the blackberry curve that is available on Verizon right now is so small that it is almost too uncomfortable to use. I might have to end up with a blackberry, but I don't know how satisfied I will be with how well it works only because whenever I have used one it is so small.

  10. @bsu

it sounds like you're a perfect candidate for the iPad. haha.

I know what you're talking about but i think that the multitouch feature on the iphone eases that issue about the screen being too small. My issue is that sometimes when i'm driving i can't read my texts. ( i know! shhh don't tell anyone i'm texting and driving). I know wish you could pinch and zoom text messages or at least choose to make the font bigger if you wanted.

  11. @Tokz

HAHA. Not to say I will never have a tablet, but I don't know what it would take to get me to buy one currently. Besides, I still want it to be pocket sized.

I would probably be a perfect candidate for an iPhone with a case on it, but if Verizon doesn't pick up the iPhone then that probably won't happen. I will most likely be forced to pick a different phone before then though, unfortunately.

  12. @ All

I voted hell no for a few reasons….

    1) Just got an Android phone and I'm loving it!

    2) $$$

    3) ATT (We all know why, I'd be a new sucker…CUSTOMER)

    4) I've made it this far without an iPhone

    5) Almost everyone I know will want one so I'll just use thiers

    Yea…

Got more but you get the point.

  13. @bsukenyan My iPhone 3GS had an Otterbox Defender that made it pretty hefty (in a cool way). It protected it like a tank and also allowed it to be used as a weapon.

  14. Eventually, but it will depend if I can keep my unlimited plan. I also plan to jailbreak my iPhone4 when I get it.

  15. @Ray

I think the iPhone is one of the few phones that I actually can stand to use as far as physical attributes go (I'm not all superficial though, I like it for it's processor and interface…I swear it's not all about how it feels in my hands! haha) and I would possibly go for it if it were on Verizon's network.

My biggest issue right now with the iPhone is the app store and all of the controversy surrounding it. I am not a fan of curated computing and losing my choices. My background on my laptop right now has a picture of a man with a surveillance camera for a head and a caption reading "1984 was NOT supposed to be an instruction manual" and after everything is said and done that is what I feel Apple is doing with how they operate and I don't know that I really want to support that anymore.

In the end I am thinking I am gonna end up with a blackberry of some form for a while. We will see though. I like to keep things interesting and confusing! lol

  16. I would still like to know pricing. they were vague about it. I bought a 3GS on day one so I don't know what the iPhone 4 is going to cost me.

every year ATT tries to make it more expensive for current iPhone users but in the end we only end up paying the same amount as everyone else. if so. I'm in for this day one

  17. @shockwave

    with 2 year contract the 16GB iphone 4 is $299 and 32GB is $399.

  18. @SlickyFats The hardware looks great, though not as great as some people are making it out to be. Unfortunately, the phone is tied to an overpriced carrier with poor service in areas that are important to me. I'll probably have to get one for games, but I will not use AT&T's service. It blows in New York and San Francisco, costs too much to tether, and generally shoddy.

  19. @Ray

I think the hardware is great. A4 chip combined with great engineering. I agree with Jobs that the higher the MP doesn't always mean the best quality. I'll reserve judgment until I can see particular camera myself, then again the camera is the least important part to me.

You should totally get an ipad for games. I'm not a fan of the accelerometer on the iPhone but the ipad pulls it off very well. The viewing angle and screen real estate make it viable.

  20. @smartguy It's not to "play" games, but to keep up with new trends. The gyroscope is why I would want the iPhone 4 over the iPad. There are more new stories there than with something that's just big.

  21. @Ray

Based purely on size probably the 3GS, but if a case could make the 4 thick enough than that would be just fine too.

  22. @Ray

That would possibly be an improvement over some of the phone designs. However with something like the blackberry curve that Verizon offers right now, it wouldn't do much good because my issue with that phone is not how well I can hold it in that way, but how small the width of the phone is and how small the keys are. When I hold it with both hands to type, like I can do on my iPod touch, it is very uncomfortable to hold and is very crammed together. Not a pleasant experience.

  23. @bsukenyan

Have you seen an otterbox case? It dramatically increases the size of a device in all dimensions. A few friends of mine believe in them. They are too bulky for my tastes.

    @Ray

I getcha. I am honestly pretty intrigued at the future of games on something like the IPad actually. It's a large enough touchscreen where your hands don't actually get in the way of what you are playing.

  24. @smartguy There's a ton of potential there, but I don't know that developers will go out of their way to optimize for the iPad when the iPhone/iPod Touch installed base is so huge. I'm also guessing that the iPhone 4 will have a significantly larger installed base than the iPad by the end of the year.

  25. @ Bsukenyan (comment #18)

I think in your second paragraph you're getting Apple and its App Store confused with the government.

    -M

  26. @Iceman

Perhaps some of the problem is the government, but the way that apps can be rejected or pulled without any clear or consistent reason given (other than it was wished that way by Apple). I just feel like they are pretty closed off about the approval/rejection process for the app store, and I can't really say I like the way they operate at all.
