Rock Band 3 Will Have a Keyboard: Do You Care?

I liked the conversation you guys had with yesterday’s “Do You Care?” article about Killzone 3. It was simple and totally fit in with the spirit of the site (you guys!). So let’s try it again! The demo for Green Day: Rock Band teased that Rock Band 3 will have a keyboard peripheral. A few of my journalist friends confirmed that they learned this at a recent press event (I’m guessing the info was/is under NDA). Do you care that Rock Band 3 will have a keyboard?

Personally, I think it’s great. On the ridiculous side, people can rock out to Europe or Jem and the Holograms. Being (more) serious, there are so many great songs with prominent keyboard or piano parts. Hell, just look at all the great Elton John songs that could take advantage of a keyboard peripheral. When I first heard about the news, Bon Jovi immediately popped into my head; David Bryan’s keyboard and piano playing are a really underrated facet of the band’s sound. He adds a great layer to so many Bon Jovi songs and his contributions are often overlooked.

So yeah! The question again is do you care that Rock Band 3 will have a keyboard? Well…do ya?!?

Don't you dare talk down on Devo in my presence (If you aren't, I apologize. It's just that Whip It is such a lame song compared to the rest of their repertoire. Devolution is real.)

See, a keyboard comes closer to teaching gamers how to actually play a real instrument in a fun way. It has potential for sure. I will be ecstatic if this creates a herd of keyboard players because anyone that's tried to recruit a keyboard player in current times, knows that they are generally total tools.

    I'm no tool fool! Lol

I think this is kind of cool. Now I wonder how the keyboard will be presented. A keyboard can be intimidating if you have no idea what your doing, never mind playing with both hands simultaneously. If the game allows you to hook up a midi keyboard via usb I might consider buying it as I have not yet purchased any "music" games yet. I wouldn't mind paying $60 to learn some new songs that I probably never heard lol, only if I can use my own keyboard.

  3. I see it as the natural evolution or what they can use to make themselves different from the Activision titles. Notice titles is plural.

For me though? Meh. I did the music game thing with GH3 and I bought Rockband. I wish I had that money back. I didn't get the lasting appeal everyone else seems to.

    I said "generally".

I hope the harder levels require you to play with 2 hands on the notes that are the real song. That's what I hope for at least.

But seriously, every keyboard player I ever auditioned claimed to have like 12 things going on and never made anything of themselves. The ones that can lock in to the right project and stay with it are the winners…. THOSE PEOPLE, are far and few between.

I would hope it would include a feathered big hair wig. Maybe a cut up Jean jacket and one fingerless glove.

  6. If if does come w/ a keytar, I want at least one old Prince tune on the set list.

  7. @ Nightshade

Purple rain? Lil Red Corvette? Doves Cry (is that the name of the song?) or 1999?

  8. 1999 of course. Every time I hear it now that it's 11 years later and the world didn't end, I start laughing. I assume I'll do the same thing 20 years from now when I catch 2012 on TNT (cause you know, they know drama).

  9. @Big Blak

I believe it's when doves cry. pretty good memory for someone your age.

Also, how come no one mentioned "darling nikki"?

  10. I think all the aforementioned Prince songs are more than suitable.

I'd like to throw in Let's Go Crazy and Raspberry Beret.

  11. I suppose I still shouldn't bother holding out hope for more gothic metal in the set list even if there finally are piano parts, huh?

I love music man. My parents (my dad was) are Deejays and I used to hate all the "crap" they played only to fall in love with it again in m 20s. My mom (48) can still cut up a mean mixtape if she wanted lol.
