Killzone 3 Will be in 3D: Do You Care?

Sony has officially announced Killzone 3 for PlayStation 3 and confirmed that it will be playable in stereoscopic 3D. While it’s important for Sony’s first-party games to push new technologies and Sony as a whole to offer games that encourage consumers to buy its stereoscopic 3D televisions, I was wondering how much it matters to you. Do you care that Killzone 3 is in 3D? Does it make you want a 3D television? Or will it take more than that? If so, how much more?

  1. no i will get the game but not because it's in 3-D. It's an added bonus if i ever get one.

  2. I am all about 3D. I buy lots of movies in 3D. I still haven't been to the theater to see a 3D movie though. So yeah I am kind of excited about Killzone 3 in 3D.

  3. i would buy killzone 3…but not in 3D. I enjoyed the second one, but the camera swings were giving me slight headaches and nausea. So no, no 3D killzone for me.

So you have the 3D tech at home but you haven't had an IMAX experience? You are a god amongst mere mortals.

    @ Topic

If I had an IMAX theater in my home I would love it, but I don't, so I wont. BTW I think the New England Aquarium has the world largest IMAX theater next to it, they mostly show educational films but when they get the summer blockbusters…OMFG its sweet.

hahaha. It's the same here in Chicago. Navy Pier is where out biggest IMAX screen is but they mostly have educational/children movies. I've only seen one movie with 3-D effects and that was Superman Returns. Worse use of 3-D effects ever. I'm all for Toy Story 3-D!!!!

  6. @Big Blak

The closest IMAX theater to me is over an hour away in Dallas. Our new local theater has 1 3D theater (Real D 3D) and its usually sold out or playing crap.

Our new theater has 20ish theters which is an upgrade from our Cinemark 5.

  7. Not interested since you'd have to wear glasses for it. I don't get the thrill of wearing tinted glasses to watch the set you paid so much for that has such vivid colors. I need tech where I'm not wearing glasses.

I loathe the day where you are still charged a premium for HD and 3D.

  8. @3D with glasses

I found some clip-on 3D glasses! I can't wear those cheapy paper ones with my actual glasses so I have to sit very close to my TV to play Batman in 3D. So now I can have 3D and it be less blurry.

  9. @slicky

Hey, that's my design! (j/k) Wow you have to play B:AA with red/blue glasses. I hate those! I like the black polarized viewers better. I may pass on playing this game in 3-D, unless you recommend it.

  10. @rbee

as far as I'm concerned glasses that are tinted will never go over well. That tech is over 20yrs old. I want 3D without wearing something. I want vivid colors and comfort.

  11. @tokz

I have used the black polarized ones at Frys with a demo on a PC but it was hard to see any 3D. I found out with the Blue & reds you have to wear them for 10 minutes before yours eyes adjust and stop seeing the colors and start seeing 3D. Also a pitch black room helps. I bought My Bloody Valentine 3D on Bluray and after the 10 minutes it was really comfortable to watch. Tonight I plan on playing Batman in 3D by taping a pair of blue and reds to my actual glasses. Southern engineering at its finest.

  12. @slicky

well the black viewers are going to be standard. Those are the ones that come with the 3-D tv's now and also the ones theater's carry. I haven't seen blue-red glasses yet in a movie. Taping it to your glasses makes sense. I figured southern engineering would be painting half the screen red and the other half blue, this way you can have glasses-less 3-D like smartguy wants, lol.

  13. @smartguy

Man, same here. 3D glasses gives me headaches and nausea. I wouldnt even go to those 4D or 3D rides at universal studios or disneyland cause its just going to ruin my day. as for IMAX, Avatar is the first and last movie I'll ever see on IMAX. i want some holographic videos if i want something on 3D

  14. @tokz

what 3D tv comes with glasses? Every model I have seen makes you buy them for 200 each.

  15. Wait, from what I heard, the 3DTVs were using a similar, but really exact same, method to what Nvidia uses with their 3D tech. Those glasses flash lenses open and shut for each eye in sync with the TV. Still, I have no intention of going 3D as it is supposed to have long term side effects from prolonged use and there is no such thing as a non prolonged use of my games XD

  16. @tokz

that add expired nearly a month ago. I would need at least a half dozen pair of glasses. For friends or for when the batteries run low on a pair.

I think I will stay out of the 3D market until I get 3D w/o glasses.

  17. Being that I can't afford a 3D tv right now, I don't care about 3D right now. But Killzone 3 is still a day one purchase for me.

    KILLZONE 3 ????? 2011!!!!!!!!!

  18. lol@rrod

im with you, cant afford a 3000 dollar tv right now….in 2 years…different story

  19. Still am not sold on 3D technology being used like this. I don't find it that impressive or visually necessary in movies, so I definitely have the same feelings towards it in games.

I am just worried that 3D will be a gimmick that too many people buy in to in order to try and please the public, and will make plenty of good or decent games bad due to the 3D being implemented.

  20. I played Batman AA GOTY Ed last night in 3D. Huge diffenence!

At first I had the glasses on and played for about 3 hours and then I thought to myself this kind of sucks. So I decided to see how big of a difference it was without 3D on. I went into the settings only to find I had actually toggled 3D OFF on accident, so the entire time I was playing the regular game while wearing those glasses. HAHA. Turned on the 3D and there was a dramatic difference. I love it.
