What Are You Playing This Weekend?

I’m totally into Final Fantasy XIII. I just started chapter eight and I really don’t understand why some people have bashed the game. The music is great; Masashi Hamauzu knocked it out of the park with a ton of pressure on him (mainly for not being Nobuo Uematsu). I started digging the gameplay after five hours and really enjoyed it after nine — I don’t understand the criticism that the game takes 25 hours to get going. The story is confusing at first, but a lot of the people that criticize the story go nuts over Final Fantasy VII’s, as if that story made a whole lot of sense. Plot aside, I’m really loving the characters. They’re different and interesting, dealing with a ridiculous situation in ways I can identify with.

So yeah! I’m completely satisfied with FFXIII so far and I’m excited to play more of it over the weekend. How about you? What are you playing this weekend?

  1. Finished DiRT, trying to finish COD2 (no, not modern warfare 2, regular call of duty 2) on Veteran. I have not played this game on anything but veteran, and I am almost done (3 missions left to go I believe). The part where I was sniping off mortar teams around the silo I was on top of after I had to raid all of the houses in that area has definitely been the hardest part of the game so far. D-day was easy by those standards.

Also trying to finish Fight Night Round 3, but I realized I am horrible at that game so idk if I will stick with that one. It's not really my cup o' tea anyways. I might try to finish the last achievement on Madden 08 as well.

Mostly I will be trying to write a rough draft of a paper (and still have to read the book too) by Saturday so that I can spend Easter Sunday with my fiance and family.

  2. Running through God of War 3 again for trophy purposes. Need to get back to BioShock2 since I only played it for a few hours, also need to get back on MAG and use the new DLC. But I will probably spend the majority of my time on Bad Company 2.

Did anyone else think it odd that they just released DLC for HAZE?!? Who would pay for more from that game?

  3. finishing up God of War 3 and probably some Tekken 6 since i just got that on last Monday. I will also use this time deciding on what i should get Geoff Johns to autograph when he comes to C2E2 in Chicago in two weeks! I will take suggestions, I’m torn between my Flash Rebirth#1 or Blackest Night#0.

  4. Once again I’ll be on the Borderlands and Left 4 Dead 2.

    @ All with XBL
What XBLA games do we all have because the Uno thursday was smashingly great! I would like to play some arcade games with y’all on a regular basis or any game for that matter, let this guy know, thanks.

  5. I’ll be playing “In-Law’s House” this weekend. The objective is to hide upstairs for most of the weekend so I don’t have to be around my wife’s family. I usually suck at it though.

  6. @rpad
Ha! I would if Mark Waid would be there and if he (Johns) would still sign my comic afterwards. I’m hoping that this convention goes well. This is the biggest one i’ve heard and seen in the actual city of Chicago. I’m excited if you can’t tell. I think this would be the closest i get to a Comic-con in San Diego until i actually go to it.

  7. @Ray: The criticism most people seem to have about the 25 hours in FFXIII is that it takes about that long to get to Gran Pulse, where the landscape opens up and you can start working on side quests, etc. I didn’t find that to be as much of a problem as a lot of other people, because a lot of FF games are pretty linear for a good chunk of the game. I think that people’s expectation of what makes an RPG has been really changes away from the JRPG model to the Bioware or Bethesda model. But there still ain’t nothing wrong with a good FF game.

  8. @Nightshade386 I don’t understand the 5/10 or 6/10 scores the game has received. So far, it’s a superior experience and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. XIII > VII.

  9. @Ray: I also think the people giving it 9’s or 10’s are a bit unreasonable as well. It realistically falls somewhere in between.

  10. It’ll be XIII for me in between shoving shoving all our stuff in a great big moving truck, and probably most of next week too until we get the internet hooked up at our new place.
