Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Brings Back Classic 2D Gaming

Sega of America has revealed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will bring the iconic blue speedster back to his 2D roots in a downloadable game for PlayStation  Network, Wii, and Xbox Live. Associate brand manager Ken Balough dropped some details on GameSpot:

This game is truly a labor of love. A lot of us grew up on the Sega Genesis console; in fact, I remember vividly the first day I got mine with Revenge of Shinobi and Moonwalker. Ever since Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has been a game classic Sega fans have always wanted to see. It was the right people, at the right time, getting together and finally making this game we’ve all wanted to see.

While the game is a brand-new adventure, it will definitely pick up after Sonic & Knuckles. However, what you are looking at is the beginning of a new story arc.

I’m totally down for some 2D Sonic action. How about you?

  1. Did we really need another one? I liken Sonic to a Nascar race… there is only so much excitment I can get from people turning left all the time. He's fast. We get it. He likes gold rings like the ghetto likes gold teeth. He travels with a LOLfox and a Trannie-esque pinkish/purple hedgehog. Meh. Bring on Mario Galaxy 2. It's time for me to rescue the princess again.

  2. I'm mixed on this as I haven't really played a Sonic game since Dreamcast. I will say though that Sonic belongs in 2D

  3. I do like how they're getting back to their roots and rebooting the original series. It's nice to see Sonic 4 up there. This is a good example of giving the fans what they want.

  4. I agree with Larcenous, I was never much of a Sonic Fan. The first one was okay but it didn't hook me to play 2 or 3 or Sonic & Knuckles or what ever sonic game that came afterwards. I've only played one game that had Sonic in it recently and it's the Mario and Sonic at the Summer Olympics for the Wii but that's as far as i'll go to touching another game with Sonic in it.

  5. Yeah…not so much a big Sonic fan here either. Heck I don't even remember the last one I touched. So I guess it's cool it's going back to it's roots. Some things are meant that way.

    Which makes me apprehensive for when the new Castlevania game comes out this year. :/

  6. I have sonic 2 on my Wii. Still a fun game. If they make it 2D and simple like the Genesis versions but with better graphics then I will probably buy it.

    @Larcenous

    Bring on Mario Galaxy 2 with standard controls please! lol
