Coffee Talk #75: My Three Favorite Gaming Videos on YouTube

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, Serena Williams slamming it Down Under, Neil Patrick Harris ruling American Idol, or the Brangelina breakup, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

YouTube is just a brilliant time waster. There are so many excellent clips on the service. Whether you’re looking for something interesting, stupid, violent, or moronic, YouTube surely has something that will tickle your fancy. Naturally, there’s a lot of great gaming content to be found. Here are three of my favorite gaming clips on YouTube.

#3 “Temptation of Sonata” — Ivy
This K-pop video takes its cues from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. I’m shocked at how accurately the fight scene between Tifa and Loz is recreated in this video for a goofy song. I’m a big fan of the movie and Korean women, so this totally works for me.

#2 “Wind Waker Unplugged” — Freddie25
Here’s an absolutely brilliant acoustic performance of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker’s theme. I wish the kid would forget about school and make more of these videos.

#1 Snorlax Owns
This is the only clip that’s not safe for work. It has naughty language from two idiots. Basically it’s two guys with NY accents lewdly commenting on the short movie that accompanied Pokemon the Movie 2000. While the accents remind me of home, the Pokemon knowledge of the narrator is pretty impressive (though he gets confused by the dragonair at the end). It’s just hilarious to hear two dudes cursing each other out over Pokemon. “That’s not raichu dick! That’s f*ckin’ pikachu!”

Now it’s your turn! I’d love to check out some of your favorite gaming videos on YouTube. If you have the time then please post a link and tell my why you dig your video.

  1. I dig the guys from Mega64. do a search on them and they will crack you up. they do real life parodies of video games.

  2. @Smartguy and Cami;

PSA: Turns out I'm not going to the Super Bowl after all. My father is selling his skybox tickets for the game. I wanted to ask you guys (er, girl) if you would be interested in them. I think there are eight tickets in total and the skybox suite is catered for the game. Any takers? And yes, I am bein serious. This is not a joke.

  3. @Iceman

Thankyou very much, but I'd rather be in NOLA for this. Boiling crawfish, tapping 2 kegs, and enjoying the people and game.

  4. @Iceman – Thank you very much for the offer, but I have to decline too :( . I would have loved to make my husband happy to see the Super Bowl up close and very personal. But with him just getting his official tattoo license (he just finished his apprenticeship) and with our upcoming possible move, we're just financially strapped.

  5. @ Mr. Padilla;

Unfortunately, no. Believe it or not, buying and selling gasoline online is not very popular for some reason… not to mention it violates about 73 different Department of Environmental Protection, State, and Federal laws. And they call this a free market… go figure.

    @ Cami;

Curious- on whom or what does an amateur tattoo artist practice on?

  6. @ Iceman

Usually either pig flesh, themselves, or VERY good friends.

    @ Smartguy

My clock says Feb. 3rd because we beat the Fins on Jan. 3rd and the terms were one month (placed by him). So he has it until after the Lost premiere (but if Lost comes on and sees it's shadow, he has it for another 6 weeks *joke*)

  7. @ Iceman & Smartguy

HOWEVER…. being as how I got his (your) name next to the Steelers avatar published in a video on iTunes for an indefinite amount of time… I may be willing to renegotiate the terms.

  8. Yuk it up now, N8R… when the 'Fins bury the Steelers next year, I will have my vengence. Mark my words, I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!

… or dig myself into a deeper hole of humiliation.

    Either way.

    REVENGE!

  9. @ Iceman

Right now, for the stakes for next year's game, I'm leaning towards a My Little Pony avatar.

    Either that or Bobby Kotick.

  10. @ Smartguy

It might have to be something other than the avatar thing depending on how close together the Steelers play the Saints and the Fins, The reason being, is if I lose both of them, it could step on the others toes.

But if all 3 of us decide on a universally embarrassing avatar, I could just rock it for 2 months total if the games are within a month of each other.

Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony, Bobby Kotick, Jack Thompson, and Barbie are the front-runners… any suggestions?

Maybe we could convince R Pad to do a poll to vote what avatar the losers rock if we come up with a good enough list of nominees.

  11. @ R Pad

I figured you would add or subtract depending on what pictures you wanted flooding your site.

Strawberry Shortcake is an excellent pick.

We have to confirm that Iceman is on board first though (or anyone else that wants some of this action). Otherwise, it's just Smartguy and I.

  12. I'm in. My suggestion would be a picture of Atari's "E.T." cartridge with the letters: "GOTY" across the bottom.

Or maybe a "Virtual Boy Fanboy" picture. I actually cringed at the Jack Thompson and Bobby Kocklick avatars. But hey, I would love to see N8R sport a picture of Thompson's ugly mug with the words: "My Idol!" across the top of the pic.

    Yeah, I'm totally in.

  13. I might lose my superpowers with a picture of Adam Lambert next to my name…. good thing I have solid faith in the Steelers.

  14. @ R Pad

In case you don't already know the backstory….here it goes:

At the very beginning of last season, there was alot of football trash talk on the Feed. I had a Steeler logo embedded in to my avatar so that people would know where my allegiance was. At this point, Iceman sends me a message stating that the Steelers played his favorite team (the Dolphins) for the last game of the regular season. He made the terms of the wager being that if the Steelers won, he's rock a Steelers avatar for a month. Likewise, if the Fins won, I'd have to rock a Dolphins avatar for a month (granted, my plan for the whole season if I lost the wager would be to use an avatar depicting Pittsburgh born Dan Marino).

The only clause was that both teams had to be playing their starters. If either team already had the playoff berth and were keeping a key player off the field, the bet was off… that didn't happen.

Now… next year, the AFC North (Steelers' division) plays the NFC South (Saints division) next year AND… since both the Steelers and the Fins came in third in their divisions, they will play again at some point next year. This enters Smartguy and possibly RROD into the wager. If RROD gets involved, one of us may be looking at 3 months of a Bobby Kotick or Adam Lambert avatar.

Side note: I'm watching Ken Anderson (Mr. Kennedy) take on JJ on TNA right now.

    @ Iceman

Do the Fins play the Saints next year? If not, you have to pick a surrogate team against the Saints only and it can't be a team in their division. Maybe it has to be an NFC team as well.

  15. Oh, god, no! Please not the Bengals!

As far as I can tell, our schedule next year is:

HOME: Lions, Bears, Browns, Steelers, AFC South team in same spot, Jets, Patriots, Bills.

ROAD: Packers, Vikings, Ravens, Bengals, AFC West team in same spot, Jets, Patriots, Bills.

    -M

  16. @N8R

I'd prefer to not count the 4th preseason game since we never play Brees.

Mathematically the potential best option would be Carolina (away game) I think. Saints are playing a first place schedule next year that will include Dallas, NFC North, AFC North. Perhaps the steelers are the Fins match. Either one would work I believe.

  17. @ Smartguy (whenever you read this)

Mathematically, what’s the best team to compare the Fins to that the Saints play next year?

If you play the Fins in the Preseason, we”l count that (though the game doesn’t really count).

  18. @Smartguy: No. Tempted, but no. I was home yesterday because my son was sick, but I really only played while he was taking his nap. There were a lot of very late nights though. I'm generally an insomniac anyway, but I feel about ready to fall over at this point……

  19. @Shockwave: over 40. I'd have to boot it up to get an exact number. I skipped some of the sidequests on the first go around. The story had me hooked. I did the same thing the first time through the first ME and then went back and did everything on subsequent playthroughs. I did enough that I survived the endgame though.

  20. @nightshade – part of me wants to purposely kill one of my shepherds but I was only able to bring over two saves. I wasn't very adventurous and kept playing with the same characters in ME one. I'll probably create a new character with one of the new classes and kill them off just to see how ME3 plays out

  21. @Shcokwave: I've got 6 Shepards, but I've got 11 save files because I carried a few characters over to Lv 60 on subsequent playthroughs. Yes, it's a sickness, I know.

I really wish Dragon Age had had this level of polish. It was still a great game, but a little rough around the edges. Clearly the ME team is Bioware's "A" team.

I'm gonna try and write my review today if I can. I'm dinging it for the tedious mineral scanning and epically long load screens, but expect a really high score overall.

  22. @Nightshade – he's the doctor right? I just picked him up. I'm still only about 4-5 hours in. Today I'm headed to the mountains to go skiing so I won't be back until tomorrow night. I am going to rent MAG though and put in enough time for a review sometime this weekend. ME2 will just have to wait, wish I had more time.
