Coffee Talk #56: A New Year’s Gaming Resolution

Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, the enormous sucktitude of the TSA, snow, or your first morning hangover (*snicker*) of 2010, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

Sorry for the lack of updates yesterday. This cold is totally kicking my ass. Between that and all the stairs at my parents’ house, I’m quite uncomfortable at the moment. Having said that, I’m so happy to be with my family and thrilled that it’s 2010! Last year sucked for a lot of people I know and it was pretty wretched for me. I’m glad it’s over and I’m looking forward to shaking things up in a new decade.

So let’s talk new year’s resolutions! A lot of people make them and most people don’t stick to them. I figure a gaming-specific resolution should be a breeze to keep. Ultimately, it’s about entertaining yourself and we all want to do that, right?

For 2010, my new year’s gaming resolution is to buy more games made by small, independent developers. Whether it’s for PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PC, iPhone, or Android, I want to do more to support the indie scene. With any luck it will lead to some karmic goodwill with someone wanting to donate money to small, independent blogs. Ha!

Do you have any gaming resolutions for 2010? Leave a comment and let me know (please)! And happy new year to you!!!

  1. I am going to try and have a life out side of MMOs this year. Between The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, and FFXIV, I'm going to have a hard time playing other games.

  2. My resolution: To hold out hope that D3 drops this year.

sidenote: Charles Barkley had a great New Year's resolution last night, he said "I'm gonna drop 50lbs and learn to speak Spanish". LOL

  3. another sidenote this morning: I prefer the xbox Netflix setup over the PS3. The xbox seems faster (i'm guessing this is a combination of the disc and bandwidth) but the overall GUI for xbox is just better in my opinion.

  4. My resolution is that I'm not gonna make any promises (but I can't guarantee I'm gonna hold to it).

  5. Study more efficiently so I can leave more time at the end of the day to relax with some 360 games.

And to make sure all of my studying can be related to the video game industry (papers, research and such).

  6. my gaming resolution for 2010 is to get involved in pro gaming. i always wanted to compete while playing. i had a bronze medal for a starcraft tourney back in the philippines, and a 5th runner up ribbon for a DOTA tourney too. (i kicked ass using rikimaru, banehallow, and centaur warchief.) asides from the gaming competitons i did back then, i also participated in magic the gathering tourneys, for fun. i remember when the mirrodin series just came out, and my scourge beast deck beat 4 players until i faced a dude with an affinity deck. beat the living crap out of my beasts.

my non gaming new years resolution. gotta be buffed up than batman, and start a band that doesnt break up.

  7. My New Year's resolution is to stop getting killed by rbee90 in Starcraft, DOTA and Magic; The Gathering tournaments.

  8. Get my new PC put together and kill some zombies in L4D2.

I hate that my parts aren't here because it's the weekend…..

Other than that, get in a decent number of games of table top Warhammer 40,000 and D&D. Been too long since I really played either…

  9. @N8R:

I'm going to the game tomorrow. I'll be sure to snap some photos of our victory celebration.

  10. I guess my gaming resolution will be to finish some older games I've got in my possession that get tossed aside whenever I buy a new game lol.
