Microsoft Confident Halo Reach Will be the Biggest Game of 2010

Halo Reach

Microsoft director of product management Aaron Greenberg is certain that Halo Reach will be the biggest game of 2010. He recently told Gamasutra, “I feel confident that there’s nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.”

While I have no doubt that Halo: Reach will be one of the biggest titles of 2010, I’m not sure if it will be the biggest. Globally, I’d guess that Final Fantasy XIII will sell more, especially considering that it will be available for a longer period of time and on multiple platforms. Greenberg completely dismissed Gran Turismo 5 beating out his game, saying, “Is it launching next year? I’ve seen years and years of minigames, but I haven’t seen that the game is done.”

What do you think or Greenberg’s proclamation? Is he on the money? Or do you think another game will beat out Halo:Reach?

  1. I think he is pretty accurate about Reach perhaps selling more than any other title. FF13 will be the only game that can come close to eclipsing it. If it has the Master Chief, then I def think it outsells FF13.

Oddly, I agree with him about GT5.

  2. I think Call of Duty 7 will be the biggest game of next year. You also can't dismiss Mario Galaxy 2, the new Zelda, Gran Turismo, and Fianl Fantasy 13. Halo has lost a lot of it power and respect with the last two cash ins.(Halo Wars and ODST)

  3. "we will do three things well. One, we will continue to offer a better value on hardware pricing. We will continue to remain $100 cheaper than PS3. Two, we will have more games, more blockbuster exclusives, no matter the genre."

Better value on hardware pricing? I know he works for M$ but what is he smoking.

  4. @Smartguy I don't see how it's close really. Halo: Reach will probably sell more in North America, but it will be close considering that FFXIII will be out in March for multiple platforms. In Europe, it will be even close. In Japan, it's not even close.

  5. @Ray – yeah I would not look for Halo:Anything to beat a Final Fantasy in Japan… ever.

  6. that's because the japanese dislike american games.

i think halo will outsell FF13 in the US. It could compete with it globally if MC is in the game. To be honest with you, I'm not buying FF13. I might buy Reach. I'm waiting on Versus.

  7. So with a halo coming out every year, Is this Bungie's Madden? Do we have to wait 5 years for a decent game? ODST and Halo Wars were IMO no where worth the sixty dollar price.

  8. @RRoD: Treyarch games in the series don't match up to the Infinity Ward games in either quality. I wish that I could say the same about sales, but World at War has sold 11 Million units. :-

  9. @Nightshade

Exactly, it sold 11 million units. Which is why I say it will be the biggest game of 2010.

  10. @ Ray

Well to be honest all I ever got out of Halo wars felt like it could have been an xbox arcade game. While I'm down with RTS games, and Yes, Halo wars was a big step up from Starcraft 64, I just didn't feel right. I actually prefer C&C(the console one) over Halo wars. I was happy that RTS games were getting some attention, The game just wasn't fun for me, even on Live.
