My knee has been acting up again, so I’m going to try to stay in bed and keep my leg elevated most of the weekend. Thankfully, I have a bunch of Green Lantern trade paperbacks to devour — most of them are repeats (Rage of the Red Lanterns, Agent Orange, etc.), but I borrowed Emerald Eclipse from a friend, which will add some new GL goodness to my life.
Man cannot live on comic books alone though, so I’m happy that I picked up Scribblenauts during Amazon’s Black Friday week. This game came out while I was in Japan in September and with all the craziness over the last few months, I kind of forgot about it. I’m looking forward to testing the word parser and seeing how imaginative the game can be. Some of my more competitive friends said it was boring, but admitted that they used the words “trampoline” and “angel wings” way to much. To me, winning isn’t the point of Scribblenauts. I want to see how creative it will allow me to be. I’m really looking forward to it!
How about you? What’s on tap for your gaming weekend?
I need to get back to Dragon Age: Origins
i just got in BF:BC2 beta its awesome, its more entertaining than mw2. but im planning to get scribblenauts too, i want that game so baddddd
Working on my 3rd playthough of Dragon Age, I have Mini Ninjas from Gamely and CoD:MW2 and Rogue Warrior from BBV.
Everyone should be playing Dragon Age. It's awesome!!! I'm about to finish my fourth play through, where I will become king of Ferelden.
I get to play the rip my PC apart game this weekend. This will be the first time I've had to take apart most of it and I can't wait to put it in my new case. (HAF 932) After that it will be more MW2 and L4D2.
@Rpad – I'll finally be owning my own copy of Dragon Age for Xmas, since that's around when my ps3 will finally be back and repaired! Cannot wait! And as for Scribblenauts – it's a fantastic game, albeit you will use a lot of the same items to complete objectives. But you can pretty much think of anything and it'll show up. It's a decently long game, Sandrock and I have giggled at it a few good times.
As for me, I picked up Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for the DS. It's an odd tatical fantsy rpg. I swear it almost reminds me of Bejeweled….but with knights and dragons and stuff. O_o
@Ray: Absolutely! I will say that there's one particular cut scene where Queen Anora is talking to Howe and Logain that I've now seen three times where her mouth moves and nothing comes out. I hate using subtitles, but I had to turn them on because of this. And the clipping is pretty bad at times too. But overall I look past those issues because the story and gameplay are amazing.
@Scribblenauts: For creativity, the game is 100% awesome. Very rarely did it not have what I was looking for. Where the game fails is in trying to get your little dude to do what you want him to. He is very unforgiving when it comes to movement, and some of the puzzles have you doing some really unforgiving things.
Something to remember – You don't always have to summon something to solve a puzzle. I know it sounds crazy, but the first time you actually succeed without summoning something, I felt like I was going to throw my DS from elation… like I was the smartest guy in the world and was no longer held by the laws of the matrix!
@Topic – I really have no idea. First weekend in a while where I am going to let fate decide how I ride out my time.
@ Larcenous
As soon as you said "unforgiving things"… my mind went straight in the gutter.
I'll be playing Assassin's Creed 2 mostly this weekend. If you liked the first one then you'll love this one. I downloaded the Nirvana track pack on Rock Band so I'll be playing that too this weekend. Also, Modern Warfare 2 will be played as well.
Is Dragon Age a turn based RPG? Those are the ones I hate.
Dragon age for me if the guy from UPS gets here on time.Got it for 14.99 off Amazon Black friday markdown and my 20.00 credit from Mw2 preorder.Until it arrives maybe dead space LBP UNO warhawk Trine MW2 probably wont get to all of those but im gonna give it my best shot.
@RROD: No, it's an action RPG. There are dice rolls and such hidden in the background for hits, but it's all in real time.
@CamiKitten I'm pretty sure I'll ask for a dingo and a baby every level, just to watch the former eat the latter. DA is awesome! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.
@RRODisHere It is not turn based.
@Trikkey Did you order it using my Amazon links? :P
@ RROD
I forgot about that Nirvana track pack I need to pick that up and the Slipknot tracks next week.
@ R-pad yup sure did.I try to remember to access Amazon through here when I am heading in that direction.
@Trikkey Thank you!!!
Gamefly just shipped out Lego Indy 2 to me. I won't get it til next week, but that's awesome nonetheless.
@Trikkey: Not just Slipknot, but Simon & Garfunkle too. Talk about eclectic…..
@ R_pad
Anytime.Will hit that donation button when I can.
@ Nightshade
I dont know alot of Simon & Garfunkle I do know that one I am a rock though.
How do I get into the BC2 beta? Is it still open?
This weekend I plan on watching football and studying. Not too much time for games. Also I'm getting kind of bored with MW2. The maps need to be bigger I think.
Simon & Garfunkel are awesome. I wish there were more Rock Band tracks to choose from.
On a side note, I've always wanted to see a band headlines by Garfunkel. Other members would include John Oates (Hall & Oates) and Andrew Ridgeley (Wham).
I may have to give Dragon Age a shot later. RPG's are not my favorite genre but I'm trying to give them a fair shot. I just bought Fallout 3, bored as hell in the vault though. I'm told it gets much better outside.
@Trikkey: It's generally at the polar opposite of the music spectrum from say….Slipknot. I just find it funny that they choose to release those two artists together.
@ R Pad
That's the Partners without Partners tour right there.
@Smartguy
I pre-ordered Battlefield 2 to get my beta code.
@Smartguy
The maps in MW2 are twice as big as the ones in COD4. You still think they need to be bigger?
@RROD: Fallout 3 is a great game, but it does take a time investment to start to get really good. Figure once you hit 6th or 7th level the game starts to open up a lot more.
@Raymond Padilla
Rock Band has hundreds and hundreds of songs to choose from.
@ Nightshade yea it is kind of a curious combo based off of my limited knowledge of S&G.
Then again Slipknot is fairly melodic.Heavy but melodic.
@Smartguy
The best map IMO is Sub Base. Not to big and the high spots are well placed.
Also, watch BFBC2's twitter account. They keep giving out PS3 betas through it.
http://twitter.com/OfficialBFBC2
Now that I think about it I also know sounds of silence if that is S&G.Might know more of their music than I realized just hadnt put the artist and song together.
@Sandrock
I love Rundown, Karachi, and Sub Base. Hate Wasteland. Every step can get you sniped and don't even think about going into that deathtrap in the middle. I played team deathmatch on Wasteland yesterday and the other team got an AC-130 gunship and kill a few of us out in the open but they kept respawning us out in the open and we kept getting killed by the AC-130 as we tried to run to safety. Horrible map.
@ Trikkey
Lie la lie
lie la lie lie lie lie lie
lie la lie
lie la lie lie lie lie lie la lie
la la lie lie lie
@ N8R
Yep I recall that one as well I believe.Though its been awhile
@ Slipknot fans
This is for you:
@ S&G fans
As a native from Pittsburgh, this one hits me pretty hard:
The new zelda game on the DS is pretty fun. I will be playing that most likely. and Fighting Fantasy, Wizard of Warlock Mountain.
@ N8r not sure what to make of that link that the rat pack version?
@ N8R Second one is pretty good though :) Not a fane of basball though last time I watched was when the diamondbacks were in the world series.
@RROD
yeah I think they are too small still. I think maps the size of Iwo Jima or maybe a tad smaller are perfect for 10-18 players. Not all of the maps need to be bigger, but it would be nice if a few were.
@sandrock
I agree about sub base. I don't mind Karachi though. I think Rundown , Rust or underpass are the worst the game has to offer.
@ Trikkey
That's Richard Cheese… That dude is awesome. He's my second favorite cover band after Me First and the Gimme Gimmes… who also did a few S&G songs.
The Pirates (sigh) were losing when the Diamondbacks were in the series as well. We've now gone 17 straight seasons under .500.
@Smartguy
Agreed on Rust. That map is way to small and so is Scrapyard.
@ n8r
Yea I know the feeling I suffered through the Cardinals pathetic dismal seasons up until the last season and so far this season.
@N8R – Richard Cheese is awesome. First song I ever heard of his was their cover of "rape Me."
"This one's for the ladies…" Classic.
@RROD
Karachi is the new Backlot and Afgan is the new Block.
@ Larcenous
I like the Bell Biv Devoe one:
"You can dome in the morning, you can dome in the night, You can dome when ya wanna dome.
Producer through the glass: "Cut.. Richard, it's Do Me. Do… Me… Not dome, Do Me."
RC: "F**K THIS S**T AND F**K YOU!" (glass smashes)
@ Trikkey
I'd apologize for last season… but I'm truly not sorry.
If it's any consolation, the only jersey I own that's not a Steeler jersey is a rookie year Larry Fitzgerald (granted, he went to Pitt and shares a last name with me… but a great talent none the less.)
@N8R
"That girl is poisoooooooon"
Haha, we're telling our age.
@ RROD
I'm telling my age by saying I remember New Edition.
@N8R
Blame it on the rain yeah yeah yeah
@ Smartguy
Would you believe that I'm so old I saw Milli Vanilli live? They were playing the "Club MTV" tour with Was Not Was and Tone Loc. I was there.
Fab is another one we could add to the Partners Without Partners tour I mentioned earlier.
@ N8R
No need for apoligies I was so freaking happy just to see them have a winning season much less go to the superbowl and nearly score the upset.Yes fitzgerald is awesome.Fitzgerald/warner is my comment above my name on ps3.
Now that I think about it, "Walk The Dinosaur" by Was Not Was must be one of the STUPIDEST songs ever.
Funky cold medina – wild thing still love those and sir mixalot
Mr. Telephone man, there's something wrong with my line.
Tone Loc? Lol.
I saw Vanilla Ice over 10 years ago. I don't know if Wu Tang stole his show or he stole Wu Tang's bit.
See… R Pad remembers New Edition too.
Did anyone know that New Kids on the Block were literally the white version of New Edition? Same producer, same area, same songwriter… just a different color.
I remember watching Beavis and Butthead. Along with Aon Flux and that cartoon with an alien that lived in the dudes head.
When I dial my baby's number, I get a click every time.
@N8R
I knew that. They gave NKOTB songs that were meant for New Edition. Who remembers Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch?
It was called "the head". That guy Ray had a mower blade stuck in his head.
Marky Mark is now Mark Walberg.
@ RROD
I remember the not so "Good Vibrations" as well as him raping my boy Lou Reed.
At the end of that movie "Rock Star" they had the tracks for the band in the movie but when they started the scene, they played Good Vibrations and Mark Wahlberg cringed in embarrassment.
That was when he had to take his pants off to get noticed.
@Smartguy
Nice, it has been a long time since I've seen any of those.
Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, and the Head… all started on Liquid Television.
Feel the vibrations!!!
Who remembers Yo MTV Raps with Fab 5 Freddie?
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3177190
More Green day for Rock band this month also.
Used to stay up until midnight to watch Friday night videos and later headbangers ball.
Fab 5 Freddie so pwned Ed Lover and (the fake) Dr. Dre.
Remember "Who's The Man?"
I remember Headbangers ball with Adam Curry.
The fact that I remember Adam Curry at all shows my age.
I liked Rockstar. I liked Almost Famous as well.
Hell, the fact that I remember music videos on MTV shows my age.
I had a huge crush on Martha Quinn.
I liked "The State". That and In Living Color
@Smartguy Both of those shows were brilliant.
I had a huge crush on Downtown Julie Brown.
@ Smartguy
I remember "Muppet hunting" on The State vividly. I heard they have the complete series on DVD but I've never seen them. They appear to be on the Zune Marketplace though.
My favorite sketch show from that era was Mr. Show.
I think Pauly Shore killed good VJ's.
@Smartguy
In Living Color was awesome. Just look at all of the stars that show produced like Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez, Jamie Foxx, and the Wayan's Bros.
@N8R
Now you can't even watch them on MTV2……
@N8R
Agreed about Pauly Shore. I'm old, I watched the very first season of the Real World.
@ RROD
The Real World is what killed MTV… and maybe the rest of TV as well.
@N8R
I remember two skits vividly from State. The one where the guy wears a tux everywhere and the one where they are reimaging a broadway play. Poop poop poop
in living color was probably the greatest sketch show of all time. I still laugh when I think of some of their fake commercials. There was one where they were hocking Miracle-Whip-That-Ass. The picture on the jug was a thug lol.
You can't handle The Tooth!!
Peoples obsessive need to try and define what is and isn't for kids killed TV. (which is why I watch way more anime than US TV)
@N8R Real World gave us The Miz! Road Rules gave us Blair Herter!
@ Smartguy
"I wanna dip my BALLS in it!"
In Living Color was awesome as well… but my allegiance remains with Mr. Show.
@N8R
So true, the Real World killed MTV and all other sitcoms.
@ R Pad
I can't tell if you're trying to add to my debate or take away from it…
Thanks for the support!
@Raymond Padilla
Blair Herter came from Road Rules?
@R-Pad
I'm going to have to watch a video of Road Rules later because I never noticed that.
@N8R I like Blair a lot. The Real World also gave me an interesting…nevermind.
@RRODisHere He absolutely did.
AN INTERESTING WHAT!?! That just begs answering. O.o
@ R Pad
I'm sure he's a cool guy on the street… but I can't stand him as an on-air personality. To be honest, I haven't actually watched the G4 network in many years. The only reason I used to watch it was for that ticker at the bottom. Then I visited the Feed, stayed on the RSS for a while, and eventually commented.
To be frank, you guys were the ones that kept me coming. Now your here, and so am I.
@ Sandrock
It's like a MadLib… I'm gonna say… lap dance!
@N8R I first met Blair when he was hosting MTV.com's G-Hole. I've been a fan of his ever since. I actually helped him out during a WrestleMania shoot…or at least I did at first. There was an open bar and waitress service. After a few drinks I became pretty useless to him. Ha!
I don't get the Blair hate. He isn't a lame or ass as far as I know.
@ Sandrock
I thnk he tries to hard to be something (I personally feel) he's not… funny. At least on-air. I don't have the privilege of knowing the guy or else I would have snapped a pic of him holding an RPad.TV chick magnet by now.
This is just my opinion and I am by far no critic. Most TV personalities seem lame to me. I'm not a good judge.
I think we are all old enough here to recall when MTV actually played music videos instead of all the crap they have now.
@Sandrock323 Blair is totally awesome. That reminds me, I need to join the "WE HATE BLAIR HERTER… GET HIM OFF X-PLAY!!!" group on Facebook.
@N8R
To be honest, I love lame ass jokes. The cornier the better.
@ R Pad
If Blair worked for you, here… I might change my tune out of respect.
@N8R I can't afford to hire Blair. I can't even afford to hire myself. Ha!
@Trikkey;
Yeah, kids now-a-days are spoiled since they have MTV2 for music videos and MTV for all the other garbage. Guess which one is more popular.
@topic;
I'm going to start on Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion expansion packs (Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine) this week if I have some time.
-M
@ Iceman
From what I have seen Mtv has crap shows also Mtv hits is the only one that actually plays music I believe.Save for the top 20 or whatever at 5 in the morning lol
correction "MTV2" plays crap shows also"
Holy Lord. Wifey's comp died so today she got an early christmas present with a new laptop (nothing super expensive but new and hers nonetheless). Turns out I wasn't leaving the store without something either.
… Borderlands is 100% crazy. I have never been a first person shooter kind of guy, but the level of awesome that this game exudes is beyond the capabilities of the written word. F*ck it's fun. Currently I am still lacking a mic, but once that is fixed if anyone wants to co-op on the PS3, just let me knows… this is flippin amazing.
