Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, wishing for the Yankees to land Yu Darvish, David Stern turning into Vince McMahon, or WWE Kane’s new mask, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.

Being the excellent gamers that you are, I’m sure most of you have imagined videogame versions of yourselves. Let’s say you were in an RPG. What would your character be like? Would you be a hero or a villain? Would you be the center of attention or one of many NPCs complaining about arrow-to-the-knee injuries? Tell me all about the wonderful RPG character that is you!

As for me, I definitely wouldn’t be the leading man, but I wouldn’t be his sidekick either. I see myself as half of a duo — think Blue Beetle & Booster Gold or Scooby-Doo & Shaggy. I would have rare moments of heroism interspersed between sarcastic banter, nights of drunkenness, bouts of gluttony, get-rich-quick schemes, and lots of complaining about the rigors of the road. The game I’d be in would be a classic, old-school RPG. I’d break the fourth wall at least twice per quest. I wouldn’t be the star of the game, but I’d have show-stealing moments.

Now it’s your turn! Kindly describe your RPG character in the comments section.

  1. My paladin from WoW. Protection spec'd and unkillable by most anything! Flying mount, divine war horse, max fishing, exalted rep with all factions, and every epic set from MC to LK and Cata.

Honorable mention: My IK Barb from D2 with 2 perfect BK rings.

    1. I have read this entire post three times, but I still do not know what the hell you are saying.

Could you maybe translate this into "Final Fantasy" terms?

Translation: Paladin = a priest who wears plate armor and fights with two handed weapons or sword and board. Uses holy magic to deal damage in addition to melee. Can also heal and has divine protection. Exalted rep means I spent about 300 hours farming reputation. MC = Molten Core the first 40 man raid.

Translation: Immortal Kings set with 2 perfect Bul Kathos wedding bands.

  2. I'm not a huge RPG guy, but I'll give it a shot.

I'd probably be an antagonist of a sort, but not the main antagonist. I'd be like the first boss in the game that anyone can take out once you figure out the pattern.

I'm thinking like the triceratops looking boss in Zelda games that you have to feed the bombs to.

      1. Before you answer this, my comeback would be:

No, we will not die like dogs! We will fight like lions!
Wherever there is injustice, you will find us.
Wherever there is suffering, we'll be there.
Wherever liberty is threatened, you will find…

        Ah, you know the rest.

      2. In a way, all of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be the actual El Guapo!

      3. The love ending was the best indeed. I'm a huge dog lover so I said the hell with everyone else! haha.

  3. Well, since X-Men Legends was an RPG, I'll choose to be Iceman, ha!

If you are talking about your more traditional, "medieval-style" fantasy RPG, then I'll have to go with the thief type; fast, sneaky, and relying more on stealth than brute force. Also, it is way easier to steal things in the video game world than it is in real life. Who knew that all you needed for free mutton and assorted items at the local inn was simply to place a bucket on the head of the proprietor while you loot the place?

    1. Damn it…

Why didn't I say Superman from DC Universe. That's who I'd choose to be anyway.

The TNA Wrestling game for iOS is pretty much an RPG. I guess I could be Kurt Angle. We do have similar accents after all and I did challenge him to a street fight once right after he won the gold medal.

      1. He laughed… at first.

He's from Pittsburgh too. He went to Mt. Lebanon High School. Before he joined the WWF, he was doing autographs at the mall one day. I happened to be there that day, and went up to him. I was just talking noise at first like "Yeah, you got a gold medal, but you ain't s*%t on the streets." Which is when he laughed. But then I said "Yeah, well my cousin beat you in high school so that's how I know" (That's actually true, my cousin went to Gateway and pinned him straight up).

He asked who my cousin was and what school. I told him, and when I judged the look on his face that looked of "Maybe this skinny little f%#k is serious"… I backed off and apologized before I got gripped up by security.

But… I could have taken him.

      2. What a cool story. At least he didn't make up lame excuses like I'm moving to Colorado or I'm visiting my mom before I leave or I'm crashing at a friends place so I can't log on.

  4. I would easily be a villain. Anyone can be the good guy, those choices are easy to make. Save the innocent people, protect those who can't protect themselves, etc., blah blah blah. But it's so much cooler to use your powers to denounce the evils of truth and love.

  5. Ninja-Paladin (Tactics: Advanced style) so nothing could touch me. I can O-H-K just about ANYTHING with my dual-wielding Excalibur 2s. Or, the Ninja-Fighter with the legendary Ayvuir Red and Ayvuir Blue.

    …Too technical? Okay, here goes…
Speedy guy with two big beatsticks. That should do it.

    1. But anyways, I'm more of a "Speed/Power" person. So, thieves/ninjas to start off, then switch to a tank once my speed/evasion skills are god-like enough. Follow that up, and you have a close-medium ranged fighter with a high attack/defense power coupled with un-imaginable speed. It may not be as versatile as the tank/ranged class, but it certainly gets the job done. Did I mention that it NEVER DIES?

  6. Bought my SGS2 Skyrocket last night. Visually it is very similar to my Infuse 4G, just a bit more rounded. The huge difference is in speed. The 1.5Ghz dual core blows my Infuse away. Also having Gingerbread and TW 4.0 probably helps with that.
But I am going to test out the LTE speeds and report back soon. Currently on "4G" at my house I have to same 10-12Mbps, but I am not near an LTE area so it should get better farther South.
