PSA: Buy a PS3 Slim and Get an EA Sports Game for Free

PS3 Slim 3

Yesterday’s Amazon “Countdown to Black Friday” deal wasn’t worth mentioning, but today’s is much better. It’s a PlayStation 3 promotion. If you buy a PS3 Slim then you get one EA Sports game for free. You can choose from FIFA Soccer 10, NHL 10, or Madden NFL 10. Check it out!

Remember, this offer expires at 11:59PM PST tonight (Friday).

PSA: Free Xbox Live Weekend!

Xbox 360 Twitter

To show off all its nifty and new Xbox Live features, like Facebook and Twitter, Microsoft is giving Xbox Live Silver members a free weekend of Gold service. The promotion runs from 9AM PST on Friday until 9AM PST on Monday. Major Nelson plugged:

During the free Live Weekends, all Xbox Live Silver members can enjoy: online multiplayer, Facebook, Twitter, Last.FM, Netflix, Sky Player, Halo Waypoint and 1 v 100.

While most enthusiast gamers have Xbox Live Gold accounts, a lot of casual users do not. Some of the people that would enjoy Facebook and Twitter on an Xbox 360 will try out Gold and likely sign up. Will it be a huge number? Who knows? But these trial periods are an effective way to raise numbers.

Are any of you Xbox Live Silver members, btw? I figured almost all of you would be Gold.

PSA: Vote for Epic Games’ Mike Capps!!!

Mike CappsMy friend, colleague, and hero Mike “Busta” Capps, president of Epic Games, needs your support. He’s in the running for the North Carolina Technology Association’s tech executive of the year. With your help, he can win this prestigious award.

There are several reasons why Capps is the obvious choice. As a gamer, you should be thankful for Epic titles like Unreal and Gears of War, not to mention the hundreds of games powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine. Secondly, Mike is just an excellent person and lots of fun to hang out with. Lastly, he actually tolerates being called “Busta” Capps (just don’t call him Mikey C — Cliff already owns that gimmick).

Voting closes on October 31, so vote for Mike (a lot). Let’s show North Cackalacky that gamers look out for their own!

PSA: Autograph Session at GameStop Koreatown

Smackdown vs Raw 2010 a

Hey all! Here’s a friendly reminder that I’ll be signing copies of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw  2010 at the GameStop in Koreatown today. Here are the specifics:

What: Raymond Padilla autograph session for WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010

Where: GameStop — 3183 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90010

When: October 21, 2009, 3:00PM to 9:00PM

(By signing autographs, I mean that I’ll be pestering GameStop customers that are interested in the game, telling them about my role in it, and forcing my signature on their box whether they want it or not. Hmmm…maybe I better not do this.)

Microsoft Warns Against Using Unauthorized Storage in Xbox Live Preview Program

Xbox 360 Twitter

Gamers that got into Microsoft’s Xbox Live preview program (for Facebook, Twitter, and Zune) are being warned not to use unauthorized storage devices (memory cards). Doing so could be bad (it’s a technical term). Microsoft’s Major Nelson warned:

When Preview Program members start receiving the Xbox 360 system update next week, one of the changes is that unauthorized Memory Units will no longer work with the Xbox 360. If you’ve moved your profile or saved games onto one to “back it up,” you’d better move it back onto an authorized Xbox 360 storage device prior to taking the update. If you continue to use an unauthorized Memory Unit after the update, you will not be able to access your stored profile or saved games.

So check yourself before you wreck yourself preview program peeps!

PSA: Amazon Having a Buy 2 Get 1 Free Sale

Amazon logo

Ignition Entertainment’s Shane Bettenhausen reminded me that Amazon.com is having a buy 2 get 1 free sale (just like Toys ‘R Us). Of course he also reminded me that his game, Muramasa, is included in the deal. Ha!

If you’re like me, then you greatly prefer shopping through Amazon than a retail store. Are you guys picking anything during Amazon’s sale? Or do you prefer going to Toys ‘R Us?

PSA: Xbox Live Deal of the Week — Hasbro Family Games Night

Scrabble -- Hasbro Family Games Night

This week’s Xbox Live Deal of the Week has Hasbro Family Games Night titles on sale. According the Major Nelson:

Xbox Live Gold Members can save 50% when they purchase any of the Hasbro Family Game Night games.Normally priced at 800 points, this week Battleship, Connect 4, Scrabble, Yahtzee, Boggle and Sorry Sliders are 400 points each.

Most of these games should have been 400 points to begin with, but I love me some Scrabble and recommend it.

Hey…anyone interesting in getting some round robin Scrabble going?

PSA: Buy 2 Get 1 Free Deal Kicks Off at Toys ‘R Us

Toys 'R UsHere’s a friendly reminder that Toys ‘R Us is having its buy-two-get-one-free sale from 11-October to 17-October. The sale applies to games, as well as accessories from $5 to $100. The poor tippers at Cheapassgamer have a FAQ on the whole dealio. Sadly, Canadians do not get to take advantage of the B2G1-free madness.

Anyone hitting up Toys ‘R Us today? If so, what are you planning to pick up?
