Random Thoughts on Pain & Gain

The maestro extraordinaire of big, dumb movies, Michael Bay, is with Pain & Gain. While it’s certainly not his biggest movie (hard to top space rocks and transforming robots), it’s definitely his dumbest…but in a good way. For a large portion of the flick, Bay’s manic directing style, hilarious performances, and sharp writing come together … Continue reading “Random Thoughts on Pain & Gain”

Coffee Talk #565: Your Star Wars Standalone Movie

Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that there will be standalone Star Wars movies along with a new trilogy. The initial rumor was that diminutive Jedi master Yoda would be getting his own film. This was followed by rumors of movies starring a young Han Solo and Boba Fett, respectively. Who would you like to see in a standalone Star Wars movie? Who do you think should get the spotlight?

Han Solo and Boba Fett are obvious choices. They’re both “cool” characters and easy to sell to Star Wars fans. Personally, I’d like to see something…more

Coffee Talk #562: Your Favorite Super Bowl 2013 Commercials

It began as a blowout, but Super Bowl XLVII ended up being a pretty exciting game. Sports and sports-related matters aside, I want to hear about the Super Bowl 2013 commercials that impressed you. To be completely honest, I was trying to edit video and watch the game at the same time. I’m positive that I missed a bunch of cool spots. If something nerdy came up, I paid attention. If a sexy woman was in a commercial, I paid extra attention. Here are the fun spots that I remember seeing, but…more

Today’s Poll: Who Makes the Best Hercules?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is living the high life. He recently won the WWE Championship and has been confirmed as Hercules. The 2014 mythological-action movie is being directed by Brett Ratner, so expect Rush Hour in loincloths (not really). Seriously though, the news made me think about other portrayals of the Greek/Roman hero. Arnold Schwarzenegger brought … Continue reading “Today’s Poll: Who Makes the Best Hercules?”

Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer?

Former WWE Superstar Dave Batista is up for the role of Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The casting would have been perfect when Drax was mentally crippled. (I’ve read Batista Unleashed and it brought me to the conclusion that Big Dave is a mental a cripple or a brilliant master … Continue reading “Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer?”

Coffee Talk #544: Best TV Show of 2012

Kicking off the “Best of 2012” Coffee Talk columns is your favorite television show of the year. It was a tough choice for me and I was very close to giving the nod to Game of Thrones Season Two, but I’m going to go with another HBO show: The Newsroom. A lot of people enjoyed the show for its political commentary and use of real-world events. That stuff was great, but I loved the…more

Random Thoughts on WWE SummerSlam 2012

Last night I was at The Staples Center for WWE SummerSlam 2012. It was a strong show live, but I’m not sure how it came across to fans watching via PPV. What stood out for me was watching Antonio Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli), Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson), and CM Punk (Phil). I loved watching these guys … Continue reading “Random Thoughts on WWE SummerSlam 2012”
