Welcome to Coffee Talk! Let’s start off the day by discussing whatever is on your (nerd chic) mind. Every morning I’ll kick off a discussion and I’m counting on you to participate in it. If you’re not feelin’ my topic, feel free to start a chat with your fellow readers and see where it takes you. Whether you’re talking about videogames, U.S.A. trouncing the Royal Kingdom of Canadia in Olympic hockey, Bryan Danielson finally making it to a WWE broadcast show, or the WWE making Bryan Danielson change his name to Daniel Bryan, Coffee Talk is the place to do it.
Way back when I started this site, I posted an entry called “What Am I Here?!?”. It’s been what? About four months since I started? RPad.tv has definitely had its ups and downs, and lately I’ve been questioning why I’m doing what I do since I’m not making any money and bills are piling up. DICE 2010 was a brilliant reminder of why I love all of this. I’m definitely recharged from DICE and I wanted to use today’s Coffee Talk to tell you why.
First and foremost, I love interacting with you guys and gals (I think RPad.tv has three female readers now). I love talking about games, gadgets, and geek culture with you. I love that I was able to share some of DICE with you. It was like bringing you all to Vegas with me (though you didn’t see me drunk). Talking about OnLive and Bobby Kotick with you was definitely fun. I’m sorry I didn’t get to do more of that during DICE, but you’ll understand why when you read reason #2.
So yeah! The second reason DICE was reinvigorating was that it reminded me of how ridiculously lucky I am. I get to write about one of my favorite hobbies and talk with the people that create the games I play. It was fun catching up with people like BioWare’s Dr. Greg Zeschuk, Gas Powered Games’ Chris Taylor, Insomniac’s Ted Price, and so many others. I feel incredibly honored that these amazing people remember my name — I’m a nobody! To me, it’s the same as writing about movies or sports and getting to hang out with actors or athletes. The one difference is that gaming is still small enough and fun enough that I still get to interact with a lot of these guys on a somewhat social level.
So today’s Coffee Talk is late because I wasn’t sure about sharing all of this because it makes me feel kind of exposed…but then I remembered that you guys are awesome. As always, thanks for visiting!!!
I think that is awesome to be able to wrk with something you love so much, on a daily basis. It's one of the reasons that I want to break into the field of research for the video game industry, it's something I love and I know I wanna work with something I love. Who wouldn't?!
I'll take this time to mention that I for one am very glad you have this site. It's a great community, and even though I know I'm definitely not one of the biggest posters on this site, I still love to read everyone's comments and thoughts.
And in addition it's a place I can come to to get reviews and opinions of anything, or like i'm about to do, try and get some help with different things we may not have the most experience in. I need some help from anyone who has ideas or knows how, to probably end up hacking a Sony Ericson xperria x1, because the phone is on Swedish and o need to switch the language to English. I haven't had a chance to do my own research yet, but I have never done anything like this before and am not too sure where to start. Any help would be appreciated!!
No problem Ray. Hope something turns out for you though, even if it means that RPAD.TV is only updated on the weekends or very sporadically during the week.
I must admit that not all industry get togethers are fun…I'm an accountant, and the profession is full of really uptight folks. Imagine how that goes. FYI, the women are the worst in my profession.
@Smartguy I'm guessing that most accountants don't suffer from Peter Pan syndrome the way a lot of people in gaming do. Ha!
@Ray
No, the sticks up their asses keep them firmly on the ground. I'm being a little bit too harsh in some respects, but then again….I'm not.
i agree with smartguy, ray
we want you to find meaningful work and be in the best possible situation. We are your disciples, this is true, but you gotta do whats best for ray padilla. Ideally, this site would blow up even more than it has, and this could be your job, but dont think that anyone here would be upset if you took a job elsewhere. Like smartguy said, you could update the site when you have time. We will follow you ray, we are your people.
also, love the emmitt fitzhume photo…i think thats chevys funniest role!!
@Ray
You gotta do what you gotta do to survive, and that goes for financially and emotionally. If you are lucky enough to find a path that fulfills both then go after it, but most of the time people opt for the financial because that is the world we live in. I hope Rpad.tv brings you some (wait make that LOTS) of both. I try to tell all my friends to check it out and use you as a Amazon gateway.
also, if you apply for a job, just show them this site, youve got a bunch of followers, youve got paid advertisements, this site kicks ass, and its just you doing it!!
@thundercracker I would try to find a way to keep updating this site daily (Monday through Friday) even if I landed a job. And thank you for getting the Emmit Fitzhume photos!!!
@SlickyFats Thanks very much!!!
@rpad
We would all love for you to keep this site but if the bills are piling up and probably are because of your rehab sessions, then feel free to pursue a job you want or need. We will keep posting and waiting for your topics. We all followed you here from G4tv, i'm pretty sure adding one more site wouldn't hurt us.
@WWE
was bryan danielson on the smackdown broadcast? i didn't see it this week? What did you think of the ppv? I thought it was kind of eh until the smackdown elimination chamber match. it looks like we'll be getting treated to (hopefully) a great build up on the smackdown side. The ending of the raw match puzzles me and has me wondering where the story line is going to now.
My days would suck pretty bad with out rpad.tv
LONG LIVE RPAD.TV!!!
@ R Pad
I'm pretty sure you know without question that I'll do my best to support whatever you do.
I totally prefer here to theFeed as well mainly because people are cool here. There's an atmosphere of awesomeness that you can't really find on any other gaming news sites (Yes, you can quote me on that: "An atmosphere of awesomeness since 2009")
Glad you got a refresher while on your trip! Long live rpad.tv! But do what needs done, what's best for you. We're still gonna be here :D
I agree with everyone's comments. Do what you need to do Raymond, but remember this, we will be here.
@Redd75 My friend at PMBQ Studios makes some neat stuff in a cutesy, anime style.
http://www.pandalineshirts.com/
Does that style work for me? Ha!
@ Redd;
I think he would need the money to have the shirts printed up in the first place.
@ RPad;
I'm behind you, man. I'm looking forward to your five-year anniversary party.
-M
@tokz_21 I just wrote an article about Elimination Chamber because you asked and N8R reminded me earlier.
@Sandrock323 Thank you sir!
@N8R I know man, totally. You rule!!!
You always have my support Ray
I’m telling you Ray, get some RPadTV shirts made up, and I’m fairly certain we’d all buy one. Give me the opportunity and I guarantee I’ll be your first customer.
@Ray
An acquaintance I know generated a lot of traffic for his website with about 5 tshirts. He had his site URL on it followed by this: "As seen on the Jay Leno show". That alone made it get hits. Distribute a few of those to some college kids and perhaps get RPAD.TV mentioned on TFLN and the hits should increase. (how Kotick of me)
I don't know Ray. Can your 'Padilla-ness' be conveyed in a cutesy, anime style?
@Redd75 Sure it can!

@Iceman- Correct. You gotta spend money to make money.
