Today’s Poll: Do You Want a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One?

After a pair of reveal events, a pair of E3 2013 press conferences, and an evening to think about it all, I’m sure that you have a pretty good idea of what the Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 have to offer. Which next-gen console do you want more? Kindly vote in today’s poll and, if you have time, explain your pick in the comments section.

  1. I have to go with the more consumer friendly product on this one. Sony seems to have learned from all their previous mistakes and is even avoiding the mistakes of their competitors this time around. I’m looking forward to playing Transistor and Destiny on the PS4.

      1. I loved Bastion and have been keeping up with Transistor since It was announced. I hope the zoom level they showed during the Sony Presser is not reflective of the final product. It seemed much more zoomed out.

  2. More assorted thoughts:

    – I loved how indie-friendly Sony was at its presser. It showed more indie games and made it clear that self-publishing was supported.

    – It’s funny that one of the biggest non-game cheers at the Microsoft presser was switching from MS Points to local currency. That’s certainly consumer-friendly…but not as consumer-friendly as what Sony is doing with the PS4. Ha!

      1. You consider the Xboner and PS4 to be next gen? That is old tech in those machines.

Yes of course Wii U is next gen. If we can call the 3-4 year old tech in MS and Sony boxes next gen then why not Wii U? It’s chip architecture doesn’t seem to be too bad.

  3. I’m going to hold on to my 360 as long as I can and possibly get back into PC gaming if I ever find a space for a new tower, but to answer your question, it would most likely be a PS4… and that makes me sad.

I want to give Microsoft my money because I feel that I’ve invested so much in them for the past 12 years and I want to keep that relationship going, but alas, like a scorned lover, I must stay away for my own good. Microsoft is insistent on pushing consumer’s power over to publishers and their archaic DRM scheme only serves to hurt the very people that support them. I will never buy into the slow shift to “rent” games on some company’s servers over buying my own copy or doing what I want with my own copy instead of conforming to a publisher’s rules.

If and when I’m ready for the next gen stuff, it will most likely be a PS4. On the bright side, I won’t miss the XBL yearly subscription fees. How much is PSN+? Is it going to be the same for the PS4 or will it increase? I really hope that Gakai (or whatever it’s called) service from Playstation lets me play PS3 games. If that’s the case, then the PS4 would allow me to experience everything I missed out during the previous generation. That would really add a ton of value for me.

P.S. I’m really going to miss Halo and all of those local co-op Gears of War sessions with my wife. So many great memories. (*sigh*)

    1. This “commercial” is pure genius on Sony’s part and is one of the reasons for me making the switch.

How far they’ve come from the initial marketing of the Playstation 3.

    2. You can game on PC with a laptop these days. No need to get a big fancy tower unless you want to really go overboard with it. The new integrated gfx on Haswell chips competes with mid range video cards.

  4. I won’t play a console that requires recurring connectivity to perform its primary function. I only play single-player/non-networked games, so I see no value on my end and just defective-by-design on theirs. I don’t care about their new profit scheme. I won’t rent games, and I will continue to buy used games, or I won’t play them at all. I will buy expansion packs worthy of the name (> 15 hours gameplay) that don’t leave me feeling like I’ve started over from scratch, but release-day DLC is bullshit.

  5. According to that craptastic vgchartz.com website, The PS3 has finally overtaken the xbox in consoles sold. SDF assemble!

  6. I want the Xbox 1 more than the PS4, it has Forza 5 (not a huge fan of GT)! However, when I do get around to getting a next gen system, it’ll most likely be a PS4.
