Wii U Launches in America on November 18 For $299.99

Nintendo of America has announced the North American launch details for the Wii U console. Hitting store shelves on November 18, 2012, the Wii U Basic Set will be available for $299.99, while the Wii U Deluxe Set will be available for $349.99. Here are the differences between the two bundles according to Nintendo:

The Wii U Basic Set includes a white Wii U console with 8 GB of internal storage, one white GamePad controller, AC adapters for both the console and controller, a sensor bar and an HDMI cable. In the Wii U Deluxe Set, components are black. This bundle includes all elements from the Basic Set, as well as the Nintendo Land game, increased console storage capacity of 32 GB, a console stand, GamePad charging cradle and a stand that allows users to place the GamePad vertically on a table. Consumers who purchase the Deluxe Set also will be enrolled in the Deluxe Digital Promotion, which lets Wii U owners receive points for each digital download and redeem those points for future downloadable content from the Nintendo eShop. The promotion is currently planned through 2014.

As for the games, Nintendo listed a number of first-party and third-party titles that will be available within the Wii U’s launch window:

Additionally, Nintendo shared new information about dozens of games on the way for Wii U, including Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros.™ U, LEGO® City: Undercover, BAYONETTA 2, The Wonderful 101™, Capcom’s Monster Hunter™ 3 Ultimate and Activision’s Call of Duty®: Black Ops II. New Super Mario Bros. U offers unprecedented ways for friends and families to play together and explore Mario’s world using the GamePad. Nintendo Land, which will be available as a standalone game or included with the Wii U Deluxe Set, is a virtual theme park featuring a lineup of 12 playable attractions based on Nintendo’s greatest game worlds, including The Legend of Zelda™, Metroid™, Mario™, Animal Crossing™ and Donkey Kong™.

The selection of third-party games on the way for Wii U will include some of the industry’s biggest names and most beloved franchises. Activision is set to bring several of its leading properties to Wii U during the launch window, including Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Skylanders Giants™ and TRANSFORMERS PRIME™. Other third-party games coming soon to Wii U include Assassin’s Creed® III, ZombiU™, Rayman Legends® and Just Dance® 4 from Ubisoft, Madden NFL 13 and Mass Effect™ 3 from Electronic Arts, Scribblenauts™ Unlimited and Batman: Arkham City™ Armored Edition from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two from Disney Interactive.

So there you have it! You know when it’s coming, you know what it will cost, and you know some of the games that will be available for the system. The question is, are any of planning to buy a Wii U? Why or why not?

  1. Wait, Bayonetta 2? As in the ultra-sexualized witch that sucks suggestively on her lollipop and wears nothing but her hair Bayonetta? Coming to the Wii U?

I guess Nintendo really is trying hard to show us that it can be a “hardcore” console as well. Sorry, Nintendo, you lost me with your spotty, unresponsive, precision-less controls and sub-par games (or not enough good games compared to other consoles).

It pains me to say that this will be the first Nintendo console in 25 years that I will not buy from them. $300 is about a month worth of groceries and diapers for me and that’s not something that I can sacrifice right now for a new toy.

    1. Not even with the hardcore controller? I will have to seriously look at the base unit or put it on my christmas list. I’m intrigued.

Yes I love a woman who only wears hair and lipstick.

      1. I’d really like to try it out before I can make an opinion, but even then, it would probably come down to the game(s) quality and how they control. I’ll take it if I get it as a gift or whatever, but I can’t justify buying it right now… or in the near future.

Oh yes; thumbs up for the hair and lipstick comment, but I’ll take mine with just hair, lipstick and 22-caliber high-heels while tonguing her lollipop like a pro.

  2. Vaguely interested, but I would still prefer a 3ds at this point I think. I will probably try and trade in my ds lite for one sometime soon, and I would consider also trading in our wii for one of these if I thought I could get a little over half the money off for everything I have (system, two controllers, and a couple popular games). I doubt that will happen though so I’m probably gonna skip/wait a long time this time.

    1. I own the 3DS and think it is too small. My hands get cramped after a few minutes. I’m upgrading to a 3DSXL in the near future. The extra money is well spent on the screen alone much less the seemingly more comfortable form factor.

I only have average sized hands and think it is too tiny. Then again, maybe it won’t be an issue for you. Good system, just not comfortable haha.

      1. I haven’t used a 3dsXL yet, but the DSxl didn’t impress me compared to my DS lite. The 3ds doesn’t seem to bad to me. My sister has one that I’ve used, and it is comparable in size to my ds lite. That, at times, can be a little cramped, but really not too bad for me. The bigger screen would be a definite plus, but color choice may be a factor in that decision as well. The DSxl color choices were horrible enough to keep me away.

I think I have average size hands, but I will still have to take a look at the 3dsXL and see what I think.

  3. There really isn’t anything in the release window that makes the Wii U compelling. I can wait until the next Smash Bros arrives.

  4. Once I told my wife that this can be used as a dvr she was pretty hooked on the idea of getting one. I’m still looking in to it all, but it could be promising.
