What Are You Playing This Weekend?

I so want to be playing Skyrim this weekend, but I have a shoot in Chicago. Yes, it’s another one of those trips that has me spending more time in the air than on the ground. Good thing I enjoy flying. I’ll be counting on iOS games to entertain me in the friendly skies. The usual suspects of Civilization Revolution, Quarrel Deluxe, and Jetpack Joyride will be joined by newcomer TubeHero. It’s a cool music/rhythm game with futuristic graphics. Think of it as Guitar Hero meets Wipeout. Plus, the name totally cracks me up. I can picture Beavis and Butt-Head giggling for hours saying, “TubeHero.”

How about you? What’s on your weekend playlist?

  1. Deus Ex…I'm trying to go through the game without killing and being detected for 200 gamer points. The people we are living with (Kat & Jarrod) have a PS3 upstairs and Jarrod just got Batman: AC for his bday so I will be playing that too.

  2. One of those trips to Chicago you should just hang out for an extra couple of days and game with me and Tokz, haha.

I'll be playing Pokemon Black, I'm having a hell of a time breeding the Hydreigon I want. I've gotten all the IV's I want properly (and fortunately there is only one ability to deal with) but I absolutely cannot get the nature to be right once I get all three of the IV's right (there have been plenty with the right nature and only two IV's though). Since it is a dragon it takes much longer to hatch the eggs which isn't helping matters any. I'm thinking of switching to an easier pokemon to take a break from Hydreigon, but I hate doing that. I might just EV train my Haxorus instead, or beat the elite four about four more times so I can get my Eelektross and Escavalier up to level 100 finally. Then whenever I can finish up Hydreigon I will be breeding Daramuka's and trying to decide what I should breed next.

I'd like to get a good gen. 5 only team, but my normal types from previous generations are so great they are hard to not use constantly. Togekiss being able to hit almost anything helps. Snorlax has fire punch and amazing attack/bulk which makes him great all around, and my Shiny porygon-z I traded for has shadow ball/tri-attack/ice beam/recover which kills in the elite four. And they are all level 100 so training other pokemon up to level 100 is so much easier.

Oh, and I will be playing some MW3 as the special ops missions are so addicting! Normally I don't like horde mode type play, but the survival mode is a lot of fun right now. And whenever I can find a good player, so are the special ops missions. The mile high level that they brought back from MW1 is significantly easier now though, which is a little disappointing as part of the fun of the original was the crazy ridiculous challenge.

    1. Trust me, I would love for these shoots not to be day trips. Chicago isn't too bad, but I have another day shoot in Boston in December. Those coast-to-coast trips are really draining, especially with the huge difference in weather.

      1. I can imagine they aren't the most fun, and the change in weather (especially around this time of year) is pretty severe. But if you can ever get any of those trips to be more than day trips the offer will still stand.

      2. I hear you, but this is the time of year I miss the most about Back East. We don't have autumn in SoCal. I miss driving down the highway, looking out the window, and seeing an entire massive hillside where every tree is a different color.

        (sigh)

      1. The Desmond sequences are…..something. I've only done 2 of them so far, and I'm not sure what to make of them. They're…..different.

Really, there's a few issues with the game. My biggest gripe is with the den defense missions. If you're going to add something in so you can say there's something new in there, it really should work properly. I really wasn't signing up for a tower defense game, and I shouldn't be able to destroy wave after wave of Templars only to have one impossible to destroy siege machine break down every defense I've spent the last 6 rounds building up. On the bright side, the missions can be completely avoided after the first one if you keep your notoriety down. Even still, I hope it either gets completely revamped or completely scrapped for the next one.

I also feel like the free running STILL needs some fine tuning. This is a gripe I've had since the first one as there are times you will stick to something you don't mean to climb as you're trying to run by, These, to me, both feel like byproducts of the one year development cycle, and I think that the next game REALLY shouldn't come out next year unless they've got some of this stuff squared away.

That being said, it's still a very good game. But I can see where an extra six months would have been helpful and I find that disappointing.

      2. I think my biggest gripe w/ Desmond is that it's 4 games in and he still seems kinda clueless. I got that for the first couple of games, but I'm really waiting for him to turn the corner and become a badass.

      3. That's the point my friends are divided over. Some of them feel that in videogame terms, he should be a bad-ass by now. Others feel that it's more realistic to keep him the way that he is.

      4. It wouldn't surprise mr if the original intent wasn't to have him be a badass by now, but then Ubi discovered they had a cash cow on their hands and they decided to drag it out go milk the series. I like these games, but the lack of growth combined with the 1 year develpment cycle has me feeling somewhat cynical.

  3. I want to continue along in New Vegas, but the thing froze on me 3 times in 30 minutes yesterday. I got pissed, and started clearing poker tables on PSN.

So… probably something in that vein. I want to customize my leather jacket some more this weekend too.

    @ Ray

Does the people you do the shirts with have a 1 inch button for RPad.TV? If not, we could get some made cheap enough to give them away.

  4. Not much console gaming. I will be heading to the arcade tonight. If I game it will be sat night or Sunday before the bears game. I'm going to try the sp in mw3 and also uncharted 3, if I do play.

  5. Arkham City. I beat the game and now it's on to the arduous task of resolving all of the side quests and the Riddler trophies/challenges. After that, I'll start on the New Game + and do all of the challenge rooms. Damn, this game has a lot of crap in it. It's almost like a Bat-fan's wet dream with the amount of villains and ancillary characters they try to jam pack into this game… some with seemingly no apparent reason, which kind of detracts from the plot of the actual game.

  6. Minecraft, but nothing tonight thanks to a freak electric outage caused by a single car hitting TWO telephone poles. Yeah, you heard me right. Not one, but two. Is it just me, or are the idiots getting more skilled?

    1. I should really play that again. It's been at least 3 months but probably closer to 5 since I played.

      1. It certainly has been a while since I could play for long periods of time, uninterrupted. I just downloaded version 1.0 (UP from 1.8?) and booted up my family server. Now, I'm down to 1.5 hearts with no food, precious little wood, and a chest full of cobblestone. Such is the life of Survival Multiplayer.

    1. Oh, my brother wants an Xbox this year, and we found something great: a 250-GB Xbox 360, coming bundled with a controller, Halo: Reach, Fable 3, and 3 months of Xbox Live for $200. Yay for Black Friday and Best Buy!

I myself am still debating on Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet. Any help?

      1. We have two 360's (my wife got one for free through her job). However, we only have the one copy of Skyrim. I went out for 5 hours tonight and the only thing that had changed from when I'd left was that she'd moved from playing in the living room to the bedroom.

      2. I though BigBlak was the one who made people shoot their beverage out of their nostrils, but you done good. Ya done good.

      3. You know what seems even super-special-awesome-better than that? Buying the Nook Tablet, then rooting it to run Kindle Fire's OS and clicking the Amazon banner on the upper right of the screen. Wonder if that'd work.

      4. He's trying to tell you (subtlety) that Amazon gives him small benefits when you use the advertising links at the top, right (of the main banner) to buy stuff from Amazon.

So even if you have to buy toothpaste, a monitor, some games and a 24-piece socket wrench kit, you just click on the Amazon ad at the top, search for the stuff you want to buy, add them to your cart and checkout. When you do that, Amazon magically smiles upon Mr. Padilla so that he can help shoulder the burden of keeping and maintaining this site.

So the mentality becomes: "If you're going to buy something (through Amazon), then might as well use the advertising link provided by this site so that we can keep this place up and running."

        -M

      5. "super-special-awesome?" Are you a fan of Yu-gi-oh! The Abridged Series by any chance? Because if you are, allow me to respond with: "Screw the rules, I have money."

        -M

      6. Or maybe "Screw the money, I have rules". Or maybe "Screw the rules, I have green hair." Or even "Screw the rules, I'm in love with Nurse Joy."

      7. The nook only lets you use 1gb of storage for stuff you want to acquire outside of their curated environment. More restrictive than Apple and I know how you feel about Apple!

      8. I heard about that. It would seem that many people are toting about the "Double the Memory!" banner without actually understanding that more is less, and less is more (?). At least the Nook has a memory card slot. Without it, I'd never even consider.

      9. I don't believe you can easily side load applications or content though. I'm not in the market for the Nook so I didn't retain too terribly much from the articles about the walled garden they use. I'd def research it.

Honestly between Fire and Nook..I'd have to go Fire seeing as how Amazon is an ecosystem that will only grow and is prone to sales on a daily basis.

      10. The ecosystem is definitely a huge advantage. The OS customizations are a bit better on the Fire too. They're both on the sluggish side, but the Fire's is a little snappier and from I understand from one developer, easier to optimize. One of my developer contacts said that the Fire's OS customizations contain a lot of rookie mistakes that should get smoothed out over time.

      11. The way I see it, the Nook Tablet has better hardware while the Kindle Fire has better software. The nook feels better in your hands, has physical buttons, a screen with less glare (I tested that myself), and seems to run videos better than even my laptop does (poor me :( ). However, their store is lacking in terms of everything that isn't a book, and they don't even sell movies or music. On the other hand, the Fire has Amazon (which I use occasionally) and all the content the B&N store does not.

As a result, my thinking was "Buy the Nook Tablet (hardware), and root it to run Kindle's (software)". Or maybe even just Android, though I'm not sure.

      12. They are the same device with the exception of software limitations and the amount of RAM.

Honestly why not just get a Transformer for $250 on Friday? I think it's crazy to go for a 7inch tablet. That just seems too small whenever I have messed with them.

      13. When I looked at the Asus Transformer (which has a stupid name, btw. Eee Tablet? What?), the review listed the biggest selling point was the fact that you could buy a keyboard for it. How is that a plus? It raises the price by $100. I'm more comfortable with a smaller tablet, anyway. Odd, right?

      14. As far as specs are concerned the ASUS (old model) literally blows the Nook out of the water. The Fire to for that matter.Yeah odd is right. Those small tablets with the exception of the Fire seem to have not faired nearly as well. The iPad is the sweet spot for tablet size I think. Easy and comfortable in both portrait and landscape. The Xoom is strictly a landscape device in my opinion and Honeycomb is just plain awful to use. The Tabs are ok. I thought the Touchpad was the closest thing as far as comfort goes in tablets when compared to the iPad. The small tablets like the original Tab, Playbook, Fire, and Nook just miss the mark for me. Perhaps because I replaced using my laptop with one? To each their own though. Tablets are pretty neat.I would hesitate to give that review credit though. Asus makes devices for tech enthusiasts. I have yet to own anything from them that I felt was just there or barely adequate. I'm fairly certain I will buy their first Windows Tablet whenever it comes to market. I only use their components when building PCs, and really appreciate how they support the type of customer I am. Odd that a tablet that review said required a keyboard. I never found them to be in stock in 2 of the BestBuys I frequent!

      15. I figured I should check other websites for their reviews on the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer (really, who named this thing? Nintendo?), so I clicked around. Suffice to say, I was surprised when I found another website saying the keyboard was what caught their eyes. And then another. And another.

I would prefer a tablet that DOESN'T have multiple-personality disorder, thanks. Just a straight, media-centric tablet. That's reasonably small, preferably.

      16. If you're rooting, there are better choices out there. Both of these tablets are best as media devices. They aren't as versatile or powerful as something like the iPad 2 or Asus Transformer Prime. If you're talking purely about media consumption then I suggest the Fire with an Amazon Prime subscription.

      17. I WOULD use it primarily for media consumption (and the internet), but I can't afford the Amazon Prime subscription. If I could, I'd get the Kindle Fire with no questions asked.

      18. Where are you getting your media from? If it's all "borrowed" from the Internet then you're better of with an Android tablet with less customizations so that you play any type of media you want.

      19. I would primarily use internet for videos that I can't find on the store (if such a thing exists) and You Tube, but I don't expect to "borrow" all my movies from the internet. I will surely buy some. I'll say this bit again: If I had Amazon Prime, I'd get the Kindle. Unfortunately, I can't afford that, and I don't use Amazon's delivery services often either.

I'd personally rather have a smaller, media-centered tablet than a 10-inch powerhouse. Just personal preference.

      1. Yeah, there are a few glitches. For instance I have a Dragon that attacked Whiterun who's skeleton actually landed on top of my house and sways with the breeze. It's pretty funny, and makes a terrificly unplanned decoration for my house.

That being said, there's nothing game-breakingly glitchy Fallout: New Vegas.

  7. I actually drew the review for Skyrim on our site….as well as the review for Assassin's Creed: Revelations. I just finished my AC:R review, so now I can actually spend all of my time on Skyrim as I'd like to get that review done by Black Friday as well. My wife and I are both home sick today though, and since I was typing up my review of AC:R, she totally ganked the Skyrim disc and has been playing it again.

    If anyone's interested, here's the AC:R review:

  8. Okay, I felt like getting rid of the increasingly small text boxes, so bear with me.

It's been decided; I'm getting the Kindle Fire. And the thing is, it wasn't a hard choice. In fact, what happened was actually pretty surprising. My dad had a PC with a burnt-out hard drive. Under warranty, he was entitled to another one. However, they were fresh out. As a result, he instead got $150 in-store credit. On top of that, he already had a $50 gift card, so he was basically "given" the Kindle Fire. Which means I can now afford the $79 Amazon Prime membership. Which, in turn, seals the deal.
