UFC Coming to Xbox Live on December 1, 2011

Microsoft has announced that UFC content will be coming to the Xbox 360 starting December 1, 2011. Live pay-per-view events, on-demand content, press conferences, weigh-ins, and more will be available. The first live PPV broadcast will be UFC 140 on December 10. Here are the bullet points from the press release:

  • Live and On-Demand Video — Event previews, UFC Countdown, press conferences, weigh-ins, interviews, workouts, highlights, and more, together for the first time on your big screen.
  • Streaming HD Quality in 720p –UFC fans demand stunning HD viewing, and Xbox LIVE brings the most premium streaming HD to the big screen.
  • Pay-Per-View with Ease — The biggest pay-per-view fights available to all Xbox LIVE members in HD and SD pricing options. Purchase directly with your credit card, Microsoft Points not required.
  • Interactive Fight Card with Predictions — Size up the fighters with the tale of the tape and view their past fight results. Predict upcoming fights, compare results with friends for points and bragging rights, and see where you stand against them on the leaderboard, all accessible while watching the fight so you’ll never have to leave the excitement of the Octagon.
  • Control the action with Kinect — Focus on the fight instead of looking for the remote. Navigate through the video content, bring up the Interactive Fight Card, or play, pause, and rewind that big punch, kick or submission…all with the magic of Kinect.

I know that most of you are incredibly excited to control UFC events via Kinect. I kid, I kid. In all seriousness, this is a tremendous partnership. UFC is incredibly popular and Microsoft is being very aggressive with its television initiatives on Xbox 360. I have no doubt that this will be a great success for everyone involved.

Any of you psyched for you UFC on your Xbox 360? What features are you looking forward to the most?

  1. Oh man this is sweet! I'm looking forward to the on demand content the most, that and HDPPV. I have a HDTV but SD cable, would I be able to use MS points for PPVs?

    1. Pay-Per-View with Ease — The biggest pay-per-view fights available to all Xbox LIVE members in HD and SD pricing options. Purchase directly with your credit card, Microsoft Points not required.

      reading is fundamental

      jk

  2. sorry im posting so much, but i hit 47, so im tied with Sandrock, and as Humpty Hump once said

"rappers in the top ten, please allow me to bump thee"

this is actually sort of like a MK challenge ladder…except, of course, for the fact that Big Blak is involved

  3. So is any of this content free?

I'm not interested though. I'm a boxing fan mainly and even that is beginning to wane.

I foresee an Xbox Live sub that will be $150 for a year with access to all of this kind of content in the near future. Perhaps then one low upfront price could entice me.

  4. As cool as this is I don't see myself using the service anytime soon. I've never been one for getting ppv content. UFC is cool enough but I'm just not that into it. The closest I really get to fights that interest me is watching a movie about boxing (just watched The Fighter) or playing Pokemon.

I'm glad the content is coming to XBL, so one day if I want to use it I can. Just isn't a big draw for me now.

  5. When I order the ppv's I use their website and hook my laptop to the tv. All the same features, just with out the magic of Kinect.

  6. I see that using your Xbox as a Uverse set top box now requires a Gold sub. I bet ordering this stuff requires a gold sub on top of paying for the event.

  7. I am not interested until like SG says there's one fee to access everything available. The WWE or UFC should think about getting a yearly pass for their ppvs. At least this way they will have guaranteed $$ for so so cards u know. I would be interested in that

    1. The problem I see with that is that you're dealing with live events long before they occur. One unexpected bomb threat in July could mean millions of refunds for people who subscribed in January.

Not to mention how all of it is subject to change from the door.

      1. Yeah but it's less money to refund than the regular fee (in my head), for example if it's $200 for a year then you will only be refunding $17 for that month. It's better than 49.95 or 54.95.

      2. If that's how it would work out, that would be awesome. But I think they would just screw the subscribers and only refund the individuals. All of that seems typical for a ToS.

Bare in mind, "bomb threat" is an extreme example of what I'm talking about. What about satellite interference that only happens in parts? Remember Souled Out? Stuff like that.

Personally, I think moving forward on the internet and gaming side like this is a great move though. I think it's this kind of thinking that will keep them in business for a long, long time.

      3. I know u weren't referencing an actual bomb threat. If that satellite interference was to happen perhaps UFC will allow u to view the next replay or send u a DVD. I remember when that happened to me for Halloween havoc AT&T sent me a video tape of the ppv cuz their feed went out.

      4. I think they'd more than likely issue a pro-rata credit. They being MS. Reason being is that you paid MS for the (hypotheticially of course) season pass on xbox live for said event(s). It's easier for them to dish out their service than send out checks.

Question: Does ticketmaster refund money still? I know I received a few refunds for everytime the Cult would cancel for one reason or another but I wonder if they still do that?

      5. Good point SG. Yes ticketmaster will. My sister could've gotten a refund for a concert Katy Perry postponed from July to August but decided to go.

  8. I'll say it here…whichever console gets RedZone with only a broadband connection will be good to go for the extra services.

      1. Redzone is great for fantasy football. Also only $7 per month. You see all the scores. It's just amazing.Sent from my iPhone 4

      2. i agree, red zone is all i have, and its all i need

football with no commercials? I'll take 2

      3. Yep. Nonstop football. No commercials. Also the montage at the end is really sweet if your fantasy team and home team took care of business.Sent from my iPhone 4

      4. "No, the white zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers. There is no parking in the red zone."
