I have some good news and some bad news on the Samsung Nexus Prime/Galaxy Nexus. The good news is that Gadget.ro has posted a video of what it claims to be the Nexus Prime running Google Ice Cream Sandwich. The bad news is that it looks like next week’s launch event at Samsung Unpacked 2011 is being postponed (which doubly sucks because my ticket is non-refundable). I’m still awaiting the official word regarding my RSVP (and praying it’s a false rumor).
One of my friends at a prominent PC publication believes that Samsung needs time to completely retool its presentation. His sources told him that Samsung’s messaging was quite aggressive and very much meant to dog the iPhone 4S. He believes that in light of Steve Jobs’ death, Samsung wanted to avoid negative PR and change its message to something less confrontational. Keep in mind that we were talking about this on AIM, so there are things I might not be picking up over text.
Anyway, check out the leaked video and let me know what you think (please!). It looks legit considering that the phone has no buttons, which is something Ice Cream Sandwich can do without. There are also several Honeycomb-like features, which is another trademark of ICS. A software hack could be dismissed, but I don’t see how you could get rid of capacitive buttons.
Even if it is a hack I am really digging the new OS.
I wish the video showed more of the camera UI.
It's a Romanian site. It's a well known fact that Romanians hate cameras.
That is a nice and snappy looking UI. I'm still not enamored with the extra screens that Android has for placing widgets and such. Not like you have to use them though.
I still think it launches by the end of the month.
Google said ICS will hit by November, so the end of October is feasible. My big fear is that Sammy moves the launch event to NY. I'd love to go and see my parents, but I don't have the dough for a ticket. San Diego was a perfectly cheap train ride away….
The new rumor is that Jobs' funeral is on Tuesday and Samsung/Google holding a presser would look classless. If that's the case then kudos to Google and Sammy for being respectful.
That is classy, just like San Diego.
thumbs up for Ron Burgandy
Lol I was hoping that someone would get it.
Where did you get those pants, from the pants store?
Now it looks like the event will be October 27…in London.
That sounds about right. That puts it and the Nokia thing pretty damn close.
Same time, I believe. If I remember correctly, Nokia World is 10/26 – 10/27.
Samsung also confirmed that the event was moved out of respect for Steve Jobs.
Wow.. that actually IS a pretty classy move by Samsung.
Looks like people were jumping to the wrong conclusions about Samsung's 10/27 press conference. That one was already scheduled and probably about the Euro launch of the Tab 7.7 and the Galaxy Note. It's Samsung only, without Google.
Personally, I've only received two cancellation emails from Samsung PR and not an invite to a rescheduled event.
